When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:1Πρωΐας δὲ γενομένης συμβούλιον ἔλαβον πάντες οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ὥστε θανατῶσαι αὐτόν
And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.2καὶ δήσαντες αὐτὸν ἀπήγαγον καὶ παρέδωκαν Πιλάτῳ τῷ ἡγεμόνι
Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,3Τότε ἰδὼν Ἰούδας παραδιδοὺς* αὐτὸν ὅτι κατεκρίθη μεταμεληθεὶς ἔστρεψεν τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ πρεσβυτέροις
Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.4λέγων Ἥμαρτον παραδοὺς αἷμα ἀθῷον Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Τί πρὸς ἡμᾶς σὺ ὄψῃ
And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.5Καὶ ῥίψας τὰ ἀργύρια εἰς τὸν ναὸν ἀνεχώρησεν καὶ ἀπελθὼν ἀπήγξατο
And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.6Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς λαβόντες τὰ ἀργύρια εἶπαν Οὐκ ἔξεστιν βαλεῖν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν κορβανᾶν ἐπεὶ τιμὴ αἵματός ἐστιν
And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.7συμβούλιον δὲ λαβόντες ἠγόρασαν ἐξ αὐτῶν τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως εἰς ταφὴν τοῖς ξένοις
Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.8διὸ ἐκλήθη ἀγρὸς ἐκεῖνος Ἀγρὸς αἵματος ἕως τῆς σήμερον
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;9τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος Καὶ ἔλαβον τὰ τριάκοντα ἀργύρια τὴν τιμὴν τοῦ τετιμημένου ὃν ἐτιμήσαντο ἀπὸ υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ
And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.10καὶ ἔδωκαν αὐτὰ εἰς τὸν ἀγρὸν τοῦ κεραμέως καθὰ συνέταξέν μοι Κύριος
And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.11 δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐστάθη ἔμπροσθεν τοῦ ἡγεμόνος καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ἡγεμὼν λέγων Σὺ εἶ Βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἔφη Σὺ λέγεις
And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.12Καὶ ἐν τῷ κατηγορεῖσθαι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀρχιερέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων οὐδὲν ἀπεκρίνατο
Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?13Τότε λέγει αὐτῷ Πιλᾶτος Οὐκ ἀκούεις πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν
And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.14Καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ πρὸς οὐδὲ ἓν ῥῆμα ὥστε θαυμάζειν τὸν ἡγεμόνα λίαν
Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.15Κατὰ δὲ ἑορτὴν εἰώθει ἡγεμὼν ἀπολύειν ἕνα τῷ ὄχλῳ δέσμιον ὃν ἤθελον
And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.16εἶχον δὲ τότε δέσμιον ἐπίσημον λεγόμενον ‹Ἰησοῦν› Βαραββᾶν
Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?17συνηγμένων οὖν αὐτῶν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Πιλᾶτος Τίνα θέλετε ἀπολύσω ὑμῖν ‹Ἰησοῦν τὸν› Βαραββᾶν Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον Χριστόν
For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.18ᾔδει γὰρ ὅτι διὰ φθόνον παρέδωκαν αὐτόν
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.19Καθημένου δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς αὐτὸν γυνὴ αὐτοῦ λέγουσα Μηδὲν σοὶ καὶ τῷ δικαίῳ ἐκείνῳ πολλὰ γὰρ ἔπαθον σήμερον κατ’ ὄναρ δι’ αὐτόν
But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.20Οἱ δὲ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἔπεισαν τοὺς ὄχλους ἵνα αἰτήσωνται τὸν Βαραββᾶν τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν ἀπολέσωσιν
The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you?
Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.22Λέγει αὐτοῖς Πιλᾶτος Τί οὖν ποιήσω Ἰησοῦν τὸν λεγόμενον Χριστόν Λέγουσιν πάντες Σταυρωθήτω
And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.23 δὲ ἔφη Τί γὰρ κακὸν ἐποίησεν Οἱ δὲ περισσῶς ἔκραζον λέγοντες Σταυρωθήτω
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.24Ἰδὼν δὲ Πιλᾶτος ὅτι οὐδὲν ὠφελεῖ ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον θόρυβος γίνεται λαβὼν ὕδωρ ἀπενίψατο τὰς χεῖρας ἀπέναντι* τοῦ ὄχλου λέγων Ἀθῷός εἰμι ἀπὸ τοῦ αἵματος τούτου ὑμεῖς ὄψεσθε
Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.25Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς πᾶς λαὸς εἶπεν Τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπὶ τὰ τέκνα ἡμῶν
Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.26Τότε ἀπέλυσεν αὐτοῖς τὸν Βαραββᾶν τὸν δὲ Ἰησοῦν φραγελλώσας παρέδωκεν ἵνα σταυρωθῇ
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.27Τότε οἱ στρατιῶται τοῦ ἡγεμόνος παραλαβόντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν εἰς τὸ πραιτώριον συνήγαγον ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ὅλην τὴν σπεῖραν
And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.28καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν χλαμύδα κοκκίνην περιέθηκαν αὐτῷ
And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!29καὶ πλέξαντες στέφανον ἐξ ἀκανθῶν ἐπέθηκαν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ κάλαμον ἐν τῇ δεξιᾷ αὐτοῦ καὶ γονυπετήσαντες ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ λέγοντες Χαῖρε Βασιλεῦ τῶν Ἰουδαίων
And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.30καὶ ἐμπτύσαντες εἰς αὐτὸν ἔλαβον τὸν κάλαμον καὶ ἔτυπτον εἰς τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ
And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.31Καὶ ὅτε ἐνέπαιξαν αὐτῷ ἐξέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὴν χλαμύδα καὶ ἐνέδυσαν αὐτὸν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ σταυρῶσαι
And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.32Ἐξερχόμενοι δὲ εὗρον ἄνθρωπον Κυρηναῖον ὀνόματι Σίμωνα τοῦτον ἠγγάρευσαν ἵνα ἄρῃ τὸν σταυρὸν αὐτοῦ
And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,33Καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τόπον λεγόμενον Γολγοθᾶ ἐστιν κρανίου τόπος λεγόμενος
They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.34ἔδωκαν αὐτῷ πιεῖν οἶνον μετὰ χολῆς μεμιγμένον καὶ γευσάμενος οὐκ ἠθέλησεν πιεῖν
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.35Σταυρώσαντες δὲ αὐτὸν διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ βάλλοντες κλῆρον {ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ τοῦ προφήτου Διεμερίσαντο τὰ ἱμάτιά μου ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν ἱματισμόν μου ἔβαλον κλῆρον}
And sitting down they watched him there;36καὶ καθήμενοι ἐτήρουν αὐτὸν ἐκεῖ
And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.37καὶ ἐπέθηκαν ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ τὴν αἰτίαν αὐτοῦ γεγραμμένην ΟΥΤΟΣ* ΕΣΤΙΝ ΙΗΣΟΥΣ Ο* ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΙΟΥΔΑΙΩΝ
Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.38Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων
And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,39Οἱ δὲ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὐτῶν
And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.40καὶ λέγοντες καταλύων τὸν ναὸν καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν σῶσον σεαυτόν εἰ Υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ κατάβηθι ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ
Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,41Ὁμοίως ‹καὶ› οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζοντες μετὰ τῶν γραμματέων καὶ πρεσβυτέρων ἔλεγον
He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.42Ἄλλους ἔσωσεν ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι Βασιλεὺς Ἰσραήλ ἐστιν καταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ καὶ πιστεύσομεν ἐπ’ αὐτόν
He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.43πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τὸν Θεόν ῥυσάσθω νῦν εἰ θέλει αὐτόν εἶπεν γὰρ ὅτι Θεοῦ εἰμι Υἱός
The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.44Τὸ δ’ αὐτὸ καὶ οἱ λῃσταὶ οἱ συσταυρωθέντες σὺν αὐτῷ ὠνείδιζον αὐτόν
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.45Ἀπὸ δὲ ἕκτης ὥρας σκότος ἐγένετο ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν ἕως ὥρας ἐνάτης
And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?46περὶ δὲ τὴν ἐνάτην ὥραν ἀνεβόησεν Ἰησοῦς φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγων Ἠλὶ* ἠλὶ* λεμὰ σαβαχθάνι* τοῦτ’ ἔστιν Θεέ μου θεέ μου ἵνα‿ τί με ἐγκατέλιπες
Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.47Τινὲς δὲ τῶν ἐκεῖ ἑστηκότων ἀκούσαντες ἔλεγον ὅτι Ἠλίαν φωνεῖ οὗτος
And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.48καὶ εὐθέως δραμὼν εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ λαβὼν σπόγγον πλήσας τε ὄξους καὶ περιθεὶς καλάμῳ ἐπότιζεν αὐτόν
The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.49Οἱ δὲ λοιποὶ ἔλεγον* Ἄφες ἴδωμεν εἰ ἔρχεται Ἠλίας σώσων αὐτόν (ἄλλος δὲ λαβὼν λόγχην ἔνυξεν αὐτοῦ τὴν πλευράν καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ὕδωρ καὶ αἷμα)
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.50 δὲ Ἰησοῦς πάλιν κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ ἀφῆκεν τὸ πνεῦμα
And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;51Καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ καταπέτασμα τοῦ ναοῦ ἐσχίσθη ἀπ’ ἄνωθεν ἕως κάτω εἰς δύο καὶ γῆ ἐσείσθη καὶ αἱ πέτραι ἐσχίσθησαν
And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,52καὶ τὰ μνημεῖα ἀνεῴχθησαν καὶ πολλὰ σώματα τῶν κεκοιμημένων ἁγίων ἠγέρθησαν
And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.53καὶ ἐξελθόντες ἐκ τῶν μνημείων μετὰ τὴν ἔγερσιν αὐτοῦ εἰσῆλθον εἰς τὴν ἁγίαν πόλιν καὶ ἐνεφανίσθησαν πολλοῖς
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.54 δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ οἱ μετ’ αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἰδόντες τὸν σεισμὸν καὶ τὰ γενόμενα* ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα λέγοντες Ἀληθῶς Θεοῦ Υἱὸς ἦν οὗτος
And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:55Ἦσαν δὲ ἐκεῖ γυναῖκες πολλαὶ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν θεωροῦσαι αἵτινες ἠκολούθησαν τῷ Ἰησοῦ ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας διακονοῦσαι αὐτῷ
Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.56ἐν αἷς ἦν Μαρία Μαγδαληνή καὶ Μαρία τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ Ἰωσὴφ μήτηρ καὶ μήτηρ τῶν υἱῶν Ζεβεδαίου
When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:57Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης ἦλθεν ἄνθρωπος πλούσιος ἀπὸ Ἁριμαθαίας τοὔνομα Ἰωσήφ ὃς καὶ αὐτὸς ἐμαθητεύθη τῷ Ἰησοῦ
He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.58οὗτος προσελθὼν τῷ Πιλάτῳ ᾐτήσατο τὸ σῶμα τοῦ Ἰησοῦ τότε Πιλᾶτος ἐκέλευσεν ἀποδοθῆναι
And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,59καὶ λαβὼν τὸ σῶμα Ἰωσὴφ ἐνετύλιξεν αὐτὸ ἐν σινδόνι καθαρᾷ
And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.60καὶ ἔθηκεν αὐτὸ ἐν τῷ καινῷ αὐτοῦ μνημείῳ ἐλατόμησεν ἐν τῇ πέτρᾳ καὶ προσκυλίσας λίθον μέγαν τῇ θύρᾳ τοῦ μνημείου ἀπῆλθεν
And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.61Ἦν δὲ ἐκεῖ Μαριὰμ Μαγδαληνὴ καὶ ἄλλη Μαρία καθήμεναι ἀπέναντι τοῦ τάφου
Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,62Τῇ δὲ ἐπαύριον ἥτις ἐστὶν μετὰ τὴν Παρασκευήν συνήχθησαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς Πιλᾶτον
Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.63λέγοντες Κύριε ἐμνήσθημεν ὅτι ἐκεῖνος πλάνος εἶπεν ἔτι ζῶν Μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἐγείρομαι
Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.64κέλευσον οὖν ἀσφαλισθῆναι τὸν τάφον ἕως τῆς τρίτης ἡμέρας μή‿ ποτε ἐλθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ ‹αὐτοῦ› κλέψωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ εἴπωσιν τῷ λαῷ Ἠγέρθη ἀπὸ τῶν νεκρῶν καὶ ἔσται ἐσχάτη πλάνη χείρων τῆς πρώτης
Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.65Ἔφη αὐτοῖς Πιλᾶτος Ἔχετε κουστωδίαν ὑπάγετε ἀσφαλίσασθε ὡς οἴδατε
So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.66οἱ δὲ πορευθέντες ἠσφαλίσαντο τὸν τάφον σφραγίσαντες τὸν λίθον μετὰ τῆς κουστωδίας
