1Then [Jesus] said to them, “Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God arrive with power.” 1Καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι εἰσίν τινες ὧδε τῶν ἑστηκότων οἵτινες οὐ μὴ γεύσωνται θανάτου ἕως ἂν ἴδωσιν τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐληλυθυῖαν ἐν δυνάμει
2After six days, Jesus took with [Him] Peter, James, and John, and led them up a high mountain [by] themselves. [There] He was transfigured before them. 2Καὶ μετὰ ἡμέρας ἓξ παραλαμβάνει ὁ Ἰησοῦς τὸν Πέτρον καὶ τὸν Ἰάκωβον καὶ [τὸν] Ἰωάννην καὶ ἀναφέρει αὐτοὺς εἰς ὄρος ὑψηλὸν κατ’ ἰδίαν μόνους καὶ μετεμορφώθη ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν
3His clothes became radiantly white, [brighter than] [any] launderer on earth could bleach them. 3καὶ τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο στίλβοντα λευκὰ λίαν οἷα γναφεὺς ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐ δύναται οὕτως λευκᾶναι
4And Elijah [and] Moses appeared before them, talking with Jesus. 4καὶ ὤφθη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας σὺν Μωϋσεῖ καὶ ἦσαν συλλαλοῦντες* τῷ Ἰησοῦ
5Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 5Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Πέτρος λέγει τῷ Ἰησοῦ Ῥαββί καλόν ἐστιν ἡμᾶς ὧδε εἶναι καὶ ποιήσωμεν τρεῖς σκηνάς σοὶ μίαν καὶ Μωϋσεῖ μίαν καὶ Ἠλίᾳ μίαν
6For they were all so terrified that [Peter] did not know what else to say. 6οὐ γὰρ ᾔδει τί ἀποκριθῇ ἔκφοβοι γὰρ ἐγένοντο
7Then a cloud appeared [and] enveloped them, and a voice came from the cloud: “This is My beloved Son. Listen to Him!” 7Καὶ ἐγένετο νεφέλη ἐπισκιάζουσα αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐγένετο φωνὴ ἐκ τῆς νεφέλης Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός ἀκούετε αὐτοῦ
8Suddenly, [when] they looked around, they saw no one with them except Jesus. 8καὶ ἐξάπινα περιβλεψάμενοι οὐκέτι οὐδένα εἶδον ἀλλὰ τὸν Ἰησοῦν μόνον μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν
9[As] they were coming down the mountain, [Jesus] admonished them not to tell anyone what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from [the] dead. 9Καὶ καταβαινόντων αὐτῶν ἐκ τοῦ ὄρους διεστείλατο αὐτοῖς ἵνα μηδενὶ ἃ εἶδον διηγήσωνται εἰ μὴ ὅταν ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ
10[So] they kept this matter to themselves, discussing what it meant to rise from [the] dead. 10καὶ τὸν λόγον ἐκράτησαν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς συζητοῦντες τί ἐστιν τὸ ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῆναι
11And they asked [Jesus], “{Why do} the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 11καὶ ἐπηρώτων αὐτὸν λέγοντες Ὅτι Λέγουσιν οἱ γραμματεῖς ὅτι Ἠλίαν δεῖ ἐλθεῖν πρῶτον
12He replied, “Elijah {does} indeed come first, [and] he restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected? 12Ὁ δὲ ἔφη αὐτοῖς Ἠλίας μὲν ἐλθὼν πρῶτον ἀποκαθιστάνει πάντα καὶ πῶς γέγραπται ἐπὶ τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἵνα πολλὰ πάθῃ καὶ ἐξουδενηθῇ
13But I tell you that Elijah has indeed come, and they have done to him whatever they wished, just as it is written about him.” 13ἀλλὰ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι καὶ Ἠλίας ἐλήλυθεν καὶ ἐποίησαν αὐτῷ ὅσα ἤθελον καθὼς γέγραπται ἐπ’ αὐτόν
14[When] they returned to the [other] disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and scribes arguing with them. 14Καὶ ἐλθόντες πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εἶδον ὄχλον πολὺν περὶ αὐτοὺς καὶ γραμματεῖς συζητοῦντας πρὸς αὐτούς
15As soon as all the people saw [Jesus], they were filled with awe and ran to greet Him. 15καὶ εὐθὺς πᾶς ὁ ὄχλος ἰδόντες αὐτὸν ἐξεθαμβήθησαν καὶ προστρέχοντες ἠσπάζοντο αὐτόν
16“What are you disputing with them?” He asked. 16Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτούς Τί συζητεῖτε πρὸς αὑτούς
17Someone in the crowd replied, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a spirit [that makes him] mute. 17Καὶ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῷ εἷς ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου Διδάσκαλε ἤνεγκα τὸν υἱόν μου πρὸς σέ ἔχοντα πνεῦμα ἄλαλον
18Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked Your disciples to drive it out, but they were unable.” 18καὶ ὅπου ἐὰν αὐτὸν καταλάβῃ ῥήσσει αὐτόν καὶ ἀφρίζει καὶ τρίζει τοὺς ὀδόντας καὶ ξηραίνεται καὶ εἶπα τοῖς μαθηταῖς σου ἵνα αὐτὸ ἐκβάλωσιν καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν
19“O unbelieving generation!” [Jesus] replied. “How long must I remain with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring [the boy] to Me.” 19Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτοῖς λέγει Ὦ γενεὰ ἄπιστος ἕως πότε πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἔσομαι ἕως πότε ἀνέξομαι ὑμῶν φέρετε αὐτὸν πρός με
20So they brought him, and seeing [Jesus], the spirit immediately threw [the boy] into a convulsion. He fell to the ground [and] rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 20Καὶ ἤνεγκαν αὐτὸν πρὸς αὐτόν καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν τὸ πνεῦμα εὐθὺς συνεσπάραξεν αὐτόν καὶ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐκυλίετο ἀφρίζων
21[Jesus] asked [the boy’s] father, “How long {has} this been with him?” “From childhood,” he said. 21Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ Πόσος χρόνος ἐστὶν ὡς τοῦτο γέγονεν αὐτῷ Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ἐκ παιδιόθεν
22“It often throws him into [the] fire [or] into [the] water, trying to kill him. But if You can [do] anything, have compassion on us [and] help us.” 22καὶ πολλάκις καὶ εἰς πῦρ αὐτὸν ἔβαλεν καὶ εἰς ὕδατα ἵνα ἀπολέσῃ αὐτόν ἀλλ’ εἴ τι δύνῃ βοήθησον ἡμῖν σπλαγχνισθεὶς ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς
23“If You can?” echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!” 23Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Τὸ Εἰ δύνῃ πάντα δυνατὰ τῷ πιστεύοντι
24Immediately the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!” 24Εὐθὺς κράξας ὁ πατὴρ τοῦ παιδίου ἔλεγεν Πιστεύω βοήθει μου τῇ ἀπιστίᾳ
25When Jesus saw that a crowd had come running, He rebuked the unclean spirit. “[You] deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you to come out and never enter him {again}.” 25Ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι ἐπισυντρέχει ὄχλος ἐπετίμησεν τῷ πνεύματι τῷ ἀκαθάρτῳ λέγων αὐτῷ Τὸ ἄλαλον καὶ κωφὸν πνεῦμα ἐγὼ ἐπιτάσσω σοι ἔξελθε ἐξ αὐτοῦ καὶ μηκέτι εἰσέλθῃς εἰς αὐτόν
26After shrieking and convulsing him violently, [the spirit] came out. [The boy] became like a corpse, so that many said, “He is dead.” 26Καὶ κράξας καὶ πολλὰ σπαράξας ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἐγένετο ὡσεὶ νεκρὸς ὥστε τοὺς πολλοὺς λέγειν ὅτι ἀπέθανεν
27But Jesus took him by the hand [and] helped him to his feet, and he stood up. 27ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς κρατήσας τῆς χειρὸς αὐτοῦ ἤγειρεν αὐτόν καὶ ἀνέστη
28After [Jesus] had gone into [the] house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?” 28Καὶ εἰσελθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς οἶκον οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ κατ’ ἰδίαν ἐπηρώτων αὐτόν Ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἠδυνήθημεν ἐκβαλεῖν αὐτό
29[Jesus] answered, “This kind cannot come out, except by prayer.” 29Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τοῦτο τὸ γένος ἐν οὐδενὶ δύναται ἐξελθεῖν εἰ μὴ ἐν προσευχῇ
30Going on from there, they passed through Galilee. But [Jesus] did not want anyone to know, 30Κἀκεῖθεν ἐξελθόντες παρεπορεύοντο διὰ τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἵνα τις γνοῖ
31because He was teaching His disciples. He told them, “The Son of Man will be delivered into [the] hands of men. They will kill Him, and after three days He will rise.” 31ἐδίδασκεν γὰρ τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς ὅτι Ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδοται εἰς χεῖρας ἀνθρώπων καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ ἀποκτανθεὶς μετὰ τρεῖς ἡμέρας ἀναστήσεται
32But they did not understand this statement, and they were afraid to ask Him. 32οἱ δὲ ἠγνόουν τὸ ῥῆμα καὶ ἐφοβοῦντο αὐτὸν ἐπερωτῆσαι
33Then they came to Capernaum. While [Jesus] was in the house, He asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” 33Καὶ ἦλθον εἰς Καφαρναούμ Καὶ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ γενόμενος ἐπηρώτα αὐτούς Τί ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ διελογίζεσθε
34But they were silent, for on the way they had been arguing with each other which [of them was] [the] greatest. 34οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων πρὸς ἀλλήλους γὰρ διελέχθησαν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ τίς μείζων
35Sitting down, [Jesus] called the Twelve and said, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be [the] last of all and [the] servant of all.” 35Καὶ καθίσας ἐφώνησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Εἴ τις θέλει πρῶτος εἶναι ἔσται πάντων ἔσχατος καὶ πάντων διάκονος
36Then He had a little child {stand} among them. Taking [the child] in His arms, He said to them, 36Καὶ λαβὼν παιδίον ἔστησεν αὐτὸ ἐν μέσῳ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐναγκαλισάμενος αὐτὸ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς
37“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes not only Me, but the [One] who sent Me.” 37Ὃς ἂν ἓν τῶν τοιούτων παιδίων δέξηται ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐμὲ δέχεται καὶ ὃς ἂν ἐμὲ δέχηται οὐκ ἐμὲ δέχεται ἀλλὰ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με
38John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone else driving out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not accompany us.” 38Ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰωάννης Διδάσκαλε εἴδομέν τινα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐκβάλλοντα δαιμόνια 〈ὃς οὐκ ἀκολουθεῖ ἡμῖν〉 καὶ ἐκωλύομεν αὐτόν ὅτι οὐκ ἠκολούθει ἡμῖν
39But Jesus replied, “{Do} not stop him. No one who performs a miracle in My name can turn around and speak evil of Me. 39Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Μὴ κωλύετε αὐτόν οὐδεὶς γάρ ἐστιν ὃς ποιήσει δύναμιν ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου καὶ δυνήσεται ταχὺ κακολογῆσαί με
40For whoever is not against us is for us. 40ὃς γὰρ οὐκ ἔστιν καθ’ ἡμῶν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν ἐστιν
41Indeed, if anyone gives you [even] a cup of water because you bear the name of Christ, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward. 41Ὃς γὰρ ἂν ποτίσῃ ὑμᾶς ποτήριον ὕδατος ἐν ὀνόματι ὅτι Χριστοῦ ἐστε ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐ μὴ ἀπολέσῃ τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ
42Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me {to stumble}, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea. 42Καὶ ὃς ἂν σκανδαλίσῃ ἕνα τῶν μικρῶν τούτων τῶν πιστευόντων ‹εἰς ἐμέ› καλόν ἐστιν αὐτῷ μᾶλλον εἰ περίκειται μύλος ὀνικὸς περὶ τὸν τράχηλον αὐτοῦ καὶ βέβληται εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν
43If your hand causes you to fall into sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two hands [and] go into hell, into the unquenchable fire. 43Καὶ ἐὰν σκανδαλίζῃ* σε ἡ χείρ σου ἀπόκοψον αὐτήν καλόν ἐστίν σε κυλλὸν εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν ἢ τὰς δύο χεῖρας ἔχοντα ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὴν γέενναν εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἄσβεστον
44where their worm {does} not die, and the fire is not quenched. 44⧼ὅπου ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται⧽
45If your foot causes you to fall into sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet [and] be thrown into hell. 45καὶ ἐὰν ὁ πούς σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε ἀπόκοψον αὐτόν καλόν ἐστίν σε εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν ζωὴν χωλὸν ἢ τοὺς δύο πόδας ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν γέενναν ⧼εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ ἄσβεστον⧽
46where their worm {does} not die, and the fire is not quenched. 46⧼ὅπου ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται⧽
47And if your eye causes you to fall into sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes [and] be thrown into hell, 47καὶ ἐὰν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου σκανδαλίζῃ σε ἔκβαλε αὐτόν καλόν σέ ἐστιν μονόφθαλμον εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἢ δύο ὀφθαλμοὺς ἔχοντα βληθῆναι εἰς τὴν γέενναν
48where ‘their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.’ 48ὅπου Ὁ σκώληξ αὐτῶν οὐ τελευτᾷ καὶ τὸ πῦρ οὐ σβέννυται
49For everyone will be salted with fire. 49Πᾶς γὰρ πυρὶ ἁλισθήσεται ⧼καὶ πᾶσα θυσία ἁλὶ ἁλισθήσεται⧽
50Salt [is] good, but if [it] loses its saltiness, with what will you season it? Have salt among yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” 50καλὸν τὸ ἅλας ἐὰν δὲ τὸ ἅλας ἄναλον γένηται ἐν τίνι αὐτὸ ἀρτύσετε ἔχετε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς ἅλα καὶ εἰρηνεύετε ἐν ἀλλήλοις
