Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;1Γνωρίζω δὲ ὑμῖν ἀδελφοί τὸ εὐαγγέλιον εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν καὶ παρελάβετε ἐν καὶ ἑστήκατε
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.2δι’ οὗ καὶ σῴζεσθε τίνι λόγῳ εὐηγγελισάμην ὑμῖν εἰ κατέχετε ἐκτὸς εἰ μὴ εἰκῇ ἐπιστεύσατε
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;3Παρέδωκα γὰρ ὑμῖν ἐν πρώτοις καὶ παρέλαβον ὅτι Χριστὸς ἀπέθανεν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:4καὶ ὅτι ἐτάφη καὶ ὅτι ἐγήγερται τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ κατὰ τὰς γραφάς
And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:5καὶ ὅτι ὤφθη Κηφᾷ εἶτα τοῖς δώδεκα
After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.6ἔπειτα ὤφθη ἐπάνω πεντακοσίοις ἀδελφοῖς ἐφάπαξ ἐξ ὧν οἱ πλείονες μένουσιν ἕως ἄρτι τινὲς δὲ ἐκοιμήθησαν
After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles.7ἔπειτα ὤφθη Ἰακώβῳ εἶτα τοῖς ἀποστόλοις πᾶσιν
And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.8ἔσχατον δὲ πάντων ὡσπερεὶ τῷ ἐκτρώματι ὤφθη κἀμοί
For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.9Ἐγὼ γάρ εἰμι ἐλάχιστος τῶν ἀποστόλων ὃς οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς καλεῖσθαι ἀπόστολος διότι ἐδίωξα τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ Θεοῦ
But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.10χάριτι δὲ Θεοῦ εἰμι εἰμι καὶ χάρις αὐτοῦ εἰς ἐμὲ οὐ κενὴ ἐγενήθη ἀλλὰ περισσότερον αὐτῶν πάντων ἐκοπίασα οὐκ ἐγὼ δὲ ἀλλὰ χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ ‹ἡ› σὺν ἐμοί
Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.11εἴτε οὖν ἐγὼ εἴτε ἐκεῖνοι οὕτως κηρύσσομεν καὶ οὕτως ἐπιστεύσατε
Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?12Εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς κηρύσσεται ὅτι ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐγήγερται πῶς λέγουσιν ἐν ὑμῖν τινες ὅτι ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν
But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:13εἰ δὲ ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν οὐκ ἔστιν οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.14εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται κενὸν ἄρα [καὶ] τὸ κήρυγμα ἡμῶν κενὴ καὶ πίστις ὑμῶν
Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.15εὑρισκόμεθα δὲ καὶ ψευδομάρτυρες τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἐμαρτυρήσαμεν κατὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὅτι ἤγειρεν τὸν Χριστόν ὃν οὐκ ἤγειρεν εἴπερ ἄρα νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται
For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:16Εἰ γὰρ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται οὐδὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται
And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.17εἰ δὲ Χριστὸς οὐκ ἐγήγερται ματαία πίστις ὑμῶν (ἐστίν) ἔτι ἐστὲ ἐν ταῖς ἁμαρτίαις ὑμῶν
Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.18ἄρα καὶ οἱ κοιμηθέντες ἐν Χριστῷ ἀπώλοντο
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.19εἰ ἐν τῇ ζωῇ ταύτῃ ἐν Χριστῷ ἠλπικότες ἐσμὲν μόνον ἐλεεινότεροι πάντων ἀνθρώπων ἐσμέν
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.20Νυνὶ δὲ Χριστὸς ἐγήγερται ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀπαρχὴ τῶν κεκοιμημένων
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.21ἐπειδὴ γὰρ δι’ ἀνθρώπου θάνατος καὶ δι’ ἀνθρώπου ἀνάστασις νεκρῶν
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.22ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐν τῷ Ἀδὰμ πάντες ἀποθνήσκουσιν οὕτως καὶ ἐν τῷ Χριστῷ πάντες ζωοποιηθήσονται
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.23Ἕκαστος δὲ ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ τάγματι ἀπαρχὴ Χριστός ἔπειτα οἱ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ἐν τῇ παρουσίᾳ αὐτοῦ
Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.24εἶτα τὸ τέλος ὅταν παραδιδῷ* τὴν βασιλείαν τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρί ὅταν καταργήσῃ πᾶσαν ἀρχὴν καὶ πᾶσαν ἐξουσίαν καὶ δύναμιν
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.25δεῖ γὰρ αὐτὸν βασιλεύειν ἄχρι οὗ θῇ πάντας τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.26ἔσχατος ἐχθρὸς καταργεῖται θάνατος
For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.27Πάντα γὰρ Ὑπέταξεν ὑπὸ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ ὅταν δὲ εἴπῃ ὅτι πάντα ὑποτέτακται δῆλον ὅτι ἐκτὸς τοῦ ὑποτάξαντος αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα
And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.28ὅταν δὲ ὑποταγῇ αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα τότε καὶ αὐτὸς Υἱὸς ὑποταγήσεται τῷ ὑποτάξαντι αὐτῷ τὰ πάντα ἵνα Θεὸς [τὰ] πάντα ἐν πᾶσιν
Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?29Ἐπεὶ τί ποιήσουσιν οἱ βαπτιζόμενοι ὑπὲρ τῶν νεκρῶν εἰ ὅλως νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται τί καὶ βαπτίζονται ὑπὲρ αὐτῶν
And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?30τί καὶ ἡμεῖς κινδυνεύομεν πᾶσαν ὥραν
I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.31καθ’ ἡμέραν ἀποθνῄσκω νὴ τὴν ὑμετέραν καύχησιν ἀδελφοί ἣν ἔχω ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ τῷ Κυρίῳ ἡμῶν
If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to morrow we die.32εἰ κατὰ ἄνθρωπον ἐθηριομάχησα ἐν Ἐφέσῳ τί μοι τὸ ὄφελος εἰ νεκροὶ οὐκ ἐγείρονται Φάγωμεν καὶ πίωμεν αὔριον γὰρ ἀποθνήσκομεν
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.33Μὴ πλανᾶσθε Φθείρουσιν ἤθη χρηστὰ ὁμιλίαι κακαί
Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame.34ἐκνήψατε δικαίως καὶ μὴ ἁμαρτάνετε ἀγνωσίαν γὰρ Θεοῦ τινες ἔχουσιν πρὸς ἐντροπὴν ὑμῖν λαλῶ
But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?35Ἀλλὰ ἐρεῖ τις Πῶς ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροί ποίῳ δὲ σώματι ἔρχονται
Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die:36ἄφρων σὺ σπείρεις οὐ ζωοποιεῖται ἐὰν μὴ ἀποθάνῃ
And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain:37καὶ σπείρεις οὐ τὸ σῶμα τὸ γενησόμενον σπείρεις ἀλλὰ γυμνὸν κόκκον εἰ τύχοι σίτου τινος τῶν λοιπῶν
But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body.38 δὲ Θεὸς δίδωσιν αὐτῷ σῶμα καθὼς ἠθέλησεν καὶ ἑκάστῳ τῶν σπερμάτων ἴδιον σῶμα
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.39Οὐ πᾶσα σὰρξ αὐτὴ σάρξ ἀλλὰ ἄλλη μὲν ἀνθρώπων ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ κτηνῶν ἄλλη δὲ σὰρξ πτηνῶν ἄλλη δὲ ἰχθύων
There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.40καὶ σώματα ἐπουράνια καὶ σώματα ἐπίγεια ἀλλὰ ἑτέρα μὲν τῶν ἐπουρανίων δόξα ἑτέρα δὲ τῶν ἐπιγείων
There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.41ἄλλη δόξα ἡλίου καὶ ἄλλη δόξα σελήνης καὶ ἄλλη δόξα ἀστέρων ἀστὴρ γὰρ ἀστέρος διαφέρει ἐν δόξῃ
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:42Οὕτως καὶ ἀνάστασις τῶν νεκρῶν σπείρεται ἐν φθορᾷ ἐγείρεται ἐν ἀφθαρσίᾳ
It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:43σπείρεται ἐν ἀτιμίᾳ ἐγείρεται ἐν δόξῃ σπείρεται ἐν ἀσθενείᾳ ἐγείρεται ἐν δυνάμει
It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.44σπείρεται σῶμα ψυχικόν ἐγείρεται σῶμα πνευματικόν Εἰ ἔστιν σῶμα ψυχικόν ἔστιν καὶ πνευματικόν
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.45οὕτως καὶ γέγραπται Ἐγένετο πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος Ἀδὰμ εἰς ψυχὴν ζῶσαν ἔσχατος Ἀδὰμ εἰς πνεῦμα ζωοποιοῦν
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.46Ἀλλ’ οὐ πρῶτον τὸ πνευματικὸν ἀλλὰ τὸ ψυχικόν ἔπειτα τὸ πνευματικόν
The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.47 πρῶτος ἄνθρωπος ἐκ γῆς χοϊκός δεύτερος ἄνθρωπος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ
As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.48οἷος χοϊκός τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ χοϊκοί καὶ οἷος ἐπουράνιος τοιοῦτοι καὶ οἱ ἐπουράνιοι
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.49καὶ καθὼς ἐφορέσαμεν τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ χοϊκοῦ φορέσομεν καὶ τὴν εἰκόνα τοῦ ἐπουρανίου
Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.50Τοῦτο δέ φημι ἀδελφοί ὅτι σὰρξ καὶ αἷμα βασιλείαν Θεοῦ κληρονομῆσαι οὐ δύναται οὐδὲ φθορὰ τὴν ἀφθαρσίαν κληρονομεῖ
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,51Ἰδοὺ μυστήριον ὑμῖν λέγω πάντες οὐ κοιμηθησόμεθα πάντες δὲ ἀλλαγησόμεθα
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.52ἐν ἀτόμῳ ἐν ῥιπῇ ὀφθαλμοῦ ἐν τῇ ἐσχάτῃ σάλπιγγι σαλπίσει γάρ καὶ οἱ νεκροὶ ἐγερθήσονται ἄφθαρτοι καὶ ἡμεῖς ἀλλαγησόμεθα
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.53δεῖ γὰρ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσασθαι ἀθανασίαν
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.54Ὅταν δὲ τὸ φθαρτὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται (τὴν) ἀφθαρσίαν καὶ τὸ θνητὸν τοῦτο ἐνδύσηται ἀθανασίαν τότε γενήσεται λόγος γεγραμμένος Κατεπόθη θάνατος εἰς νῖκος
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?55Ποῦ σου θάνατε τὸ νῖκος ποῦ σου θάνατε τὸ κέντρον
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.56Τὸ δὲ κέντρον τοῦ θανάτου ἁμαρτία δὲ δύναμις τῆς ἁμαρτίας νόμος
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.57τῷ δὲ Θεῷ χάρις τῷ διδόντι ἡμῖν τὸ νῖκος διὰ τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.58Ὥστε ἀδελφοί μου ἀγαπητοί ἑδραῖοι γίνεσθε ἀμετακίνητοι περισσεύοντες ἐν τῷ ἔργῳ τοῦ Κυρίου πάντοτε εἰδότες ὅτι κόπος ὑμῶν οὐκ ἔστιν κενὸς ἐν Κυρίῳ
