How blessed are those who observe his decrees, who seek him with all of their heart, | 2Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, |
who practice no evil while they walk in his ways. | 3who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! |
You have commanded concerning your precepts, that they be guarded with diligence. | 4You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. |
Oh, that my ways were steadfast, so I may keep your statutes. | 5Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! |
Then I will not be ashamed, since my eyes will be fixed on all of your commands. | 6Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments. |
I will praise you with an upright heart, as I learn your righteous decrees. | 7I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules. |
I will keep your statutes; do not ever abandon me. | 8I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me! |
How can a young man keep his behavior pure? By guarding it in accordance with your word. | 9How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. |
I have sought you with all of my heart; do not let me drift away from your commands. | 10With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! |
I have stored what you have said in my heart, so I won't sin against you. | 11I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. |
Blessed are you, LORD! Teach me your statutes. | 12Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes! |
I have spoken with my lips about all your decrees that you have announced. | 13With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth. |
I find joy in the path of your decrees, as if I owned all kinds of riches. | 14In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches. |
I will meditate on your precepts, and I will respect your ways. | 15I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. |
I am delighted with your statutes; I will not forget your word. | 16I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. |
Deal kindly with your servant so I may live and keep your word. | 17Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word. |
Open my eyes so that I will observe amazing things from your instruction. | 18Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. |
Since I am a stranger on the earth, do not hide your commands from me. | 19I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me! |
My soul is consumed with longing for your decrees at all times. | 20My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times. |
You rebuke the accursed ones, who wander from your commands. | 21You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments. |
Remove scorn and disrespect from me, for I observe your decrees. | 22Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies. |
Though nobles take their seat and gossip about me, your servant will meditate on your statutes. | 23Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes. |
I take joy in your decrees, for they are my counselors. | 24Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. |
My soul clings to the dust; revive me according to your word. | 25My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word! |
I have talked about my ways, and you have answered me; Teach me your statutes. | 26When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes! |
Help me understand how your precepts function, and I will meditate on your wondrous acts. | 27Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works. |
I weep because of sorrow; fortify me according to your word. | 28My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! |
Remove false paths from me; and graciously give me your instruction. | 29Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law! |
I have chosen the faithful way; I have firmly placed your ordinances before me. | 30I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set your rules before me. |
I cling to your decrees; LORD, do not put me to shame. | 31I cling to your testimonies, O LORD; let me not be put to shame! |
I eagerly race along the way of your commands, for you enable me to do so. | 32I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart! |
Teach me, LORD, about the way of your statutes, and I will observe them without fail. | 33Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. |
Give me understanding and I will observe your instruction. I will keep it with all of my heart. | 34Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. |
Help me live my life by your commands, because my joy is in them. | 35Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. |
Turn my heart to your decrees and away from unjust gain. | 36Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain! |
Turn my eyes away from gazing at worthless things, and revive me by your ways. | 37Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways. |
Confirm your promise to your servant, which is for those who fear you. | 38Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared. |
Turn away the shame that I dread, because your ordinances are good. | 39Turn away the reproach that I dread, for your rules are good. |
Look, I long for your precepts; revive me through your righteousness. | 40Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life! |
May your gracious love come to me, LORD, your salvation, just as you said. | 41Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise; |
Then I can answer the one who insults me, for I place my trust in your word. | 42then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in your word. |
Never take your truthful words from me, For I wait for your ordinances. | 43And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules. |
Then I will always keep your Law, forever and ever, | 44I will keep your law continually, forever and ever, |
I will walk in liberty, for I seek your precepts. | 45and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought your precepts. |
Then I will speak of your decrees before kings and not be ashamed. | 46I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame, |
I will take delight in your commands, which I love. | 47for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love. |
I will lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes. | 48I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes. |
Remember what you said to your servant, by which you caused me to hope. | 49Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. |
This is what comforts me in my troubles: that what you say revives me. | 50This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life. |
Even though the arrogant utterly deride me, I do not turn away from your instruction. | 51The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law. |
I have remembered your ancient ordinances, LORD, and I take comfort in them. | 52When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O LORD. |
I burn with indignation because of the wicked who forsake your instruction. | 53Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law. |
Your statutes are my songs, no matter where I make my home. | 54Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning. |
In the night I remember your name, LORD, and keep your instruction. | 55I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law. |
I have made it my personal responsibility to keep your precepts. | 56This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your precepts. |
The LORD is my inheritance; I have given my promise to keep your word. | 57The LORD is my portion; I promise to keep your words. |
I have sought your favor with all of my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. | 58I entreat your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise. |
I examined my lifestyle and set my feet in the direction of your decrees. | 59When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies; |
I hurried and did not procrastinate to keep your commands. | 60I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments. |
Though the ropes of the wicked have ensnared me, I have not forgotten your instruction. | 61Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, I do not forget your law. |
At midnight I will get up to thank you for your righteous ordinances. | 62At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules. |
I am united with all who fear you, and with everyone who keeps your precepts. | 63I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts. |
LORD, the earth overflows with your gracious love! Teach me your statutes. | 64The earth, O LORD, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes! |
LORD, you have dealt well with your servant, according to your word. | 65You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word. |
Teach me both knowledge and appropriate discretion, because I believe in your commands. | 66Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments. |
Before I was humbled, I wandered away, but now I observe your words. | 67Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. |
LORD, you are good , and do what is good; teach me your statutes. | 68You are good and do good; teach me your statutes. |
The arrogant have accused me falsely; but I will observe your precepts wholeheartedly. | 69The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts; |
Their minds are clogged as with greasy fat, but I find joy in your instruction. | 70their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in your law. |
It was for my good that I was humbled; so that I would learn your statutes. | 71It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. |
Instruction that comes from you is better for me than thousands of gold and silver coins. | 72The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces. |
Your hands made and formed me; give me understanding, that I may learn your commands. | 73Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. |
May those who fear you see me and be glad, for I have hoped in your word. | 74Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word. |
I know, LORD, that your decrees are just, and that you have rightfully humbled me. | 75I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. |
May your gracious love comfort me in accordance with your promise to your servant. | 76Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant. |
May your mercies come to me that I may live, for your instruction is my delight. | 77Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight. |
May the arrogant become ashamed, because they have subverted me with deceit; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. | 78Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. |
May those who fear you turn to me, along with those who know your decrees. | 79Let those who fear you turn to me, that they may know your testimonies. |
May my heart be blameless with respect to your statutes so that I may not become ashamed. | 80May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame! |
I long for your deliverance; I have looked to your word, placing my hope in it. | 81My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word. |
My eyes grow weary with respect to what you have promised— I keep asking, "When will you comfort me?" | 82My eyes long for your promise; I ask, “When will you comfort me?” |
Though I have become like a water skin dried by smoke, I have not forgotten your statutes. | 83For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I have not forgotten your statutes. |
How many days must your servant endure this? When will you judge those who persecute me? | 84How long must your servant endure? When will you judge those who persecute me? |
The arrogant have dug pitfalls for me disobeying your instruction. | 85The insolent have dug pitfalls for me; they do not live according to your law. |
All of your commands are reliable. I am persecuted without cause—help me! | 86All your commandments are sure; they persecute me with falsehood; help me! |
Though the arrogant nearly destroyed me on earth, I did not abandon your precepts. | 87They have almost made an end of me on earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts. |
Revive me according to your gracious love; and I will keep the decrees that you have proclaimed. | 88In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth. |
Your word is forever, LORD; it is firmly established in heaven. | 89Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. |
Your faithfulness continues from generation to generation. You established the earth, and it stands firm. | 90Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast. |
To this day they stand by means of your rulings, for all things serve you. | 91By your appointment they stand this day, for all things are your servants. |
Had your instruction not been my pleasure, I would have died in my affliction. | 92If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. |
I will never forget your precepts, for you have revived me with them. | 93I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life. |
I am yours, so save me, since I have sought your precepts. | 94I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts. |
The wicked lay in wait to destroy me, while I ponder your decrees. | 95The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider your testimonies. |
I have observed that all things have their limit, but your commandment is very broad. | 96I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad. |
How I love your instruction! Every day it is my meditation. | 97Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. |
Your commands make me wiser than my adversaries, since they are always with me. | 98Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. |
I am more insightful than my teachers, because your decrees are my meditations. | 99I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. |
I have more common sense than the elders, for I observe your precepts. | 100I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. |
I keep away from every evil choice so that I may keep your word. | 101I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. |
I do not avoid your judgments, for you pointed them out to me. | 102I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. |
How pleasing is what you have to say to me— tasting better than honey. | 103How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! |
I obtain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every false way. | 104Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. |
Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light for my pathway. | 105Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. |
I have given my word and affirmed it, to keep your righteous judgments. | 106I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules. |
I am severely afflicted. Revive me, LORD, according to your word. | 107I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word! |
LORD, please accept my voluntary offerings of praise, and teach me your judgments. | 108Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules. |
Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I do not forget your instruction. | 109I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law. |
Though the wicked lay a trap for me, I haven't wandered away from your precepts. | 110The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts. |
I have inherited your decrees forever, because they are the joy of my heart. | 111Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart. |
As a result, I am determined to carry out your statutes forever. | 112I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end. |
I despise the double-minded, but I love your instruction. | 113I hate the double-minded, but I love your law. |
You are my fortress and shield; I hope in your word. | 114You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. |
Leave me, you who practice evil, that I may observe the commands of my God. | 115Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God. |
Sustain me, God, as you have promised, and I will live. Do not let me be ashamed of my hope. | 116Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope! |
Support me, that I may be saved, and I will carry out your statutes consistently. | 117Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your statutes continually! |
You reject all who wander from your statutes, since their deceitfulness is vain. | 118You spurn all who go astray from your statutes, for their cunning is in vain. |
You remove all the wicked of the earth like dross; therefore I love your decrees. | 119All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross, therefore I love your testimonies. |
My flesh trembles out of fear of you, and I am in awe of your judgments. | 120My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments. |
I have acted with justice and righteousness; do not abandon me to my oppressors. | 121I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors. |
Back up your servant in a positive way; do not let the arrogant oppress me. | 122Give your servant a pledge of good; let not the insolent oppress me. |
My eyes fail as I look for your salvation and for your righteous promise. | 123My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise. |
Act toward your servant consistent with your gracious love, and teach me your statutes. | 124Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love, and teach me your statutes. |
Since I am your servant, give me understanding, so I will know your decrees. | 125I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies! |
It is time for the LORD to act, since they have violated your instruction. | 126It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken. |
I truly love your commands more than gold, including fine gold. | 127Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold. |
I truly consider all of your precepts—all of them—to be just, while I despise every false way. | 128Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way. |
Your decrees are wonderful— that's why I observe them. | 129Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them. |
The disclosure of your words illuminates, providing understanding to the simple. | 130The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. |
I open my mouth and pant as I long for your commands. | 131I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments. |
Turn in my direction and show mercy to me, as you have decreed regarding those who love your name. | 132Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your way with those who love your name. |
Direct my footsteps by your promise, and do not let any kind of iniquity rule over me. | 133Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me. |
Deliver me from human oppression and I will keep your precepts. | 134Redeem me from man’s oppression, that I may keep your precepts. |
Show favor to your servant, and teach me your statutes. | 135Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. |
My eyes shed rivers of tears, when others do not obey your instruction. | 136My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law. |
LORD, you are righteous, and your judgments are right. | 137Righteous are you, O LORD, and right are your rules. |
You have ordered your decrees to us rightly, and they are very faithful. | 138You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness and in all faithfulness. |
My zeal consumes me because my enemies forget your words. | 139My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words. |
Your word is very pure, and your servant loves it. | 140Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it. |
Though I may be small and despised, I do not neglect your precepts. | 141I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts. |
Your righteousness is an eternal righteousness, and your instruction is true. | 142Your righteousness is righteous forever, and your law is true. |
Though trouble and anguish overwhelm me, your commands remain my delight. | 143Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight. |
Your righteous decrees are eternal; give me understanding, and I will live. | 144Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live. |
I have cried out with all of my heart. Answer me, LORD! I will observe your statutes. | 145With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O LORD! I will keep your statutes. |
I have called out to you, "Save me, so I may keep your decrees." | 146I call to you; save me, that I may observe your testimonies. |
I get up before dawn and cry for help; I place my hope in your word. | 147I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words. |
I look forward to the night watches, when I may meditate on what you have said. | 148My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise. |
Hear my voice according to your gracious love. LORD, revive me in keeping with your justice. | 149Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; O LORD, according to your justice give me life. |
Those who pursue wickedness draw near; they remain far from your instruction. | 150They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose; they are far from your law. |
You are near, LORD, and all of your commands are true. | 151But you are near, O LORD, and all your commandments are true. |
I discovered long ago about your decrees that you have confirmed them forever. | 152Long have I known from your testimonies that you have founded them forever. |
Look on my misery, and rescue me, for I do not ignore your instruction. | 153Look on my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget your law. |
Defend my case and redeem me; revive me according to your promise. | 154Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise! |
Deliverance remains remote from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes. | 155Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes. |
Your mercies are magnificent, LORD; revive me according to your judgments. | 156Great is your mercy, O LORD; give me life according to your rules. |
Though my persecutors and adversaries are numerous, I do not turn aside from your decrees. | 157Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies. |
I watch the treacherous, and despise them, because they do not do what you have said. | 158I look at the faithless with disgust, because they do not keep your commands. |
Look how I love your precepts, LORD; revive me according to your gracious love. | 159Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love. |
The sum of your word is truth, and each righteous ordinance of yours is everlasting. | 160The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever. |
Though nobles persecute me for no reason, my heart stands in awe of your words. | 161Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words. |
I find joy at what you have said like one who has discovered a great treasure. | 162I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil. |
I despise and hate falsehood, but I love your instruction. | 163I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law. |
I praise you seven times a day because of your righteous ordinances. | 164Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous rules. |
Great peace belongs to those who love your instruction, and nothing makes them stumble. | 165Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble. |
I am looking in hope for your deliverance, LORD, as I carry out your commands. | 166I hope for your salvation, O LORD, and I do your commandments. |
My soul treasures your decrees, and I love them deeply. | 167My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly. |
I keep your precepts and your decrees because all of my ways are before you. | 168I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are before you. |
May my cry arise before you, LORD; give me understanding according to your word. | 169Let my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word! |
Let my request come before you; deliver me, as you have promised. | 170Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word. |
May my lips utter praise, for you teach me your statutes. | 171My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes. |
May my tongue sing about your promise, for all of your commands are right. | 172My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right. |
May your hand stand ready to assist me, for I have chosen your precepts. | 173Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. |
I am longing for your deliverance, LORD, and your instruction is my joy. | 174I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. |
Let me live, and I will praise you; let your ordinances help me. | 175Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me. |
I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come find your servant, for I do not forget your commands. | 176I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments. |
