1At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps [and] went out to meet the bridegroom. 1Τότε ὁμοιωθήσεται ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν δέκα παρθένοις αἵτινες λαβοῦσαι τὰς λαμπάδας ἑαυτῶν ἐξῆλθον εἰς ὑπάντησιν τοῦ νυμφίου
2Five of them were foolish, and five [were] wise. 2πέντε δὲ ἐξ αὐτῶν ἦσαν μωραὶ καὶ πέντε φρόνιμοι
3The foolish [ones] took their lamps [but did not] take along [any extra] oil. 3αἱ γὰρ μωραὶ λαβοῦσαι τὰς λαμπάδας ‹αὐτῶν› οὐκ ἔλαβον μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν ἔλαιον
4But the wise [ones] took oil in flasks along with their lamps. 4αἱ δὲ φρόνιμοι ἔλαβον ἔλαιον ἐν τοῖς ἀγγείοις μετὰ τῶν λαμπάδων ἑαυτῶν
5[When] the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. 5χρονίζοντος δὲ τοῦ νυμφίου ἐνύσταξαν πᾶσαι καὶ ἐκάθευδον
6At midnight the cry went out: ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ 6Μέσης δὲ νυκτὸς κραυγὴ γέγονεν Ἰδοὺ ὁ νυμφίος ἐξέρχεσθε εἰς ἀπάντησιν ‹αὐτοῦ›
7Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 7Τότε ἠγέρθησαν πᾶσαι αἱ παρθένοι ἐκεῖναι καὶ ἐκόσμησαν τὰς λαμπάδας ἑαυτῶν
8The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’ 8αἱ δὲ μωραὶ ταῖς φρονίμοις εἶπαν Δότε ἡμῖν ἐκ τοῦ ἐλαίου ὑμῶν ὅτι αἱ λαμπάδες ἡμῶν σβέννυνται
9‘No,’ said the wise [ones], ‘or there may not be enough for [both] us and you. Instead, go to those who sell [oil] and buy [some] for yourselves.’ 9Ἀπεκρίθησαν δὲ αἱ φρόνιμοι λέγουσαι Μή¦Ποτε οὐ μὴ ἀρκέσῃ ἡμῖν καὶ ὑμῖν πορεύεσθε μᾶλλον πρὸς τοὺς πωλοῦντας καὶ ἀγοράσατε ἑαυταῖς
10But [while] they were on their way to buy [it], the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. 10Ἀπερχομένων δὲ αὐτῶν ἀγοράσαι ἦλθεν ὁ νυμφίος καὶ αἱ ἕτοιμοι εἰσῆλθον μετ’ αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς γάμους καὶ ἐκλείσθη ἡ θύρα
11Later , the other virgins arrived and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open [the door] for us!’ 11Ὕστερον δὲ ἔρχονται καὶ αἱ λοιπαὶ παρθένοι λέγουσαι Κύριε κύριε ἄνοιξον ἡμῖν
12But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’ 12Ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν οὐκ οἶδα ὑμᾶς
13Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day [or] the hour. 13Γρηγορεῖτε οὖν ὅτι οὐκ οἴδατε τὴν ἡμέραν οὐδὲ τὴν ὥραν ⧼ἐν ᾗ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἔρχεται⧽
14For [it] is just like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted them with his possessions. 14Ὥσπερ γὰρ ἄνθρωπος ἀποδημῶν ἐκάλεσεν τοὺς ἰδίους δούλους καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτοῖς τὰ ὑπάρχοντα αὐτοῦ
15To one he gave five talents, to [another] two [talents], and to [another] one [talent]— each according to his own ability. And he promptly went on his journey. 15καὶ ᾧ μὲν ἔδωκεν πέντε τάλαντα ᾧ δὲ δύο ᾧ δὲ ἕν ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὴν ἰδίαν δύναμιν καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν Εὐθέως
16The [servant] who had received five talents went [and] put them to work, and gained five more. 16Πορευθεὶς ὁ τὰ πέντε τάλαντα λαβὼν ἠργάσατο ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐκέρδησεν ἄλλα πέντε
17Likewise, the [one with] two [talents] gained two more. 17ὡσαύτως ὁ τὰ δύο ἐκέρδησεν ἄλλα δύο
18But the [servant] who had received one [talent] went off, dug a hole in the ground, and hid his master’s money. 18ὁ δὲ τὸ ἓν λαβὼν ἀπελθὼν ὤρυξεν γῆν καὶ ἔκρυψεν τὸ ἀργύριον τοῦ κυρίου αὐτοῦ
19After a long time, the master of those servants returned to settle accounts with them. 19Μετὰ δὲ πολὺν χρόνον ἔρχεται ὁ κύριος τῶν δούλων ἐκείνων καὶ συναίρει λόγον μετ’ αὐτῶν
20The [servant] who had received five talents came [and] presented five more. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me {with} five talents. See, I have gained five more.’ 20καὶ προσελθὼν ὁ τὰ πέντε τάλαντα λαβὼν προσήνεγκεν ἄλλα πέντε τάλαντα λέγων Κύριε πέντε τάλαντά μοι παρέδωκας ἴδε ἄλλα πέντε τάλαντα ἐκέρδησα
21His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you {in charge} of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ 21Ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ Εὖ δοῦλε ἀγαθὲ καὶ πιστέ ἐπὶ ὀλίγα ἦς πιστός ἐπὶ πολλῶν σε καταστήσω εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν χαρὰν τοῦ κυρίου σου
22Then the [servant] [who had received] two talents also came [and] said, ‘Master, you entrusted me {with} two talents. See, I have gained two more.’ 22Προσελθὼν ‹δὲ› καὶ ὁ τὰ δύο τάλαντα εἶπεν Κύριε δύο τάλαντά μοι παρέδωκας ἴδε ἄλλα δύο τάλαντα ἐκέρδησα
23His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you {in charge} of many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ 23Ἔφη αὐτῷ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ Εὖ δοῦλε ἀγαθὲ καὶ πιστέ ἐπὶ ὀλίγα ἦς πιστός ἐπὶ πολλῶν σε καταστήσω εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν χαρὰν τοῦ κυρίου σου
24Finally, the [servant] who had received one talent came and said, ‘Master, I knew that you are a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 24Προσελθὼν δὲ καὶ ὁ τὸ ἓν τάλαντον εἰληφὼς εἶπεν Κύριε ἔγνων σε ὅτι σκληρὸς εἶ ἄνθρωπος θερίζων ὅπου οὐκ ἔσπειρας καὶ συνάγων ὅθεν οὐ διεσκόρπισας
25So in my fear, I went [and] hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what [belongs] to you.’ 25καὶ φοβηθεὶς ἀπελθὼν ἔκρυψα τὸ τάλαντόν σου ἐν τῇ γῇ ἴδε ἔχεις τὸ σόν
26‘You wicked, lazy servant!’ replied his master. ‘You knew that I reap where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed. 26Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ κύριος αὐτοῦ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Πονηρὲ δοῦλε καὶ ὀκνηρέ ᾔδεις ὅτι θερίζω ὅπου οὐκ ἔσπειρα καὶ συνάγω ὅθεν οὐ διεσκόρπισα
27Then you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and on my return I would have received it {back} with interest. 27ἔδει σε οὖν βαλεῖν τὰ ἀργύριά μου τοῖς τραπεζίταις καὶ ἐλθὼν ἐγὼ ἐκομισάμην ἂν τὸ ἐμὸν σὺν τόκῳ
28Therefore take the talent from him and give [it] to the [one] who has ten talents. 28Ἄρατε οὖν ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ τὸ τάλαντον καὶ δότε τῷ ἔχοντι τὰ δέκα τάλαντα
29For everyone who has will be given [more], and [he] will have an abundance. But the [one who] {does} not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 29τῷ γὰρ ἔχοντι παντὶ δοθήσεται καὶ περισσευθήσεται τοῦ δὲ μὴ ἔχοντος καὶ ὃ ἔχει ἀρθήσεται ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ
30And throw that worthless servant into the outer darkness, [where] there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 30καὶ τὸν ἀχρεῖον δοῦλον ἐκβάλετε εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων
31When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, He will sit on His glorious throne. 31Ὅταν δὲ ἔλθῃ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν τῇ δόξῃ αὐτοῦ καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄγγελοι μετ’ αὐτοῦ τότε καθίσει ἐπὶ θρόνου δόξης αὐτοῦ
32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate [the people] one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 32καὶ συναχθήσονται ἔμπροσθεν αὐτοῦ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη καὶ ἀφορίσει αὐτοὺς ἀπ’ ἀλλήλων ὥσπερ ὁ ποιμὴν ἀφορίζει τὰ πρόβατα ἀπὸ τῶν ἐρίφων
33He will place the sheep on His right and the goats on [His] left. 33καὶ στήσει τὰ μὲν πρόβατα ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ τὰ δὲ ἐρίφια ἐξ εὐωνύμων
34Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from [the] foundation of [the] world. 34Τότε ἐρεῖ ὁ Βασιλεὺς τοῖς ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ Δεῦτε οἱ εὐλογημένοι τοῦ Πατρός μου κληρονομήσατε τὴν ἡτοιμασμένην ὑμῖν βασιλείαν ἀπὸ καταβολῆς κόσμου
35For I was hungry and you gave Me [something] to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me [something] to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, 35ἐπείνασα γὰρ καὶ ἐδώκατέ μοι φαγεῖν ἐδίψησα καὶ ἐποτίσατέ με ξένος ἤμην καὶ συνηγάγετέ με
36[I was] naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’ 36γυμνὸς καὶ περιεβάλετέ με ἠσθένησα καὶ ἐπεσκέψασθέ με ἐν φυλακῇ ἤμην καὶ ἤλθατε πρός με
37Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed [You], or thirsty and give [You] something to drink? 37Τότε ἀποκριθήσονται αὐτῷ οἱ δίκαιοι λέγοντες Κύριε πότε σε εἴδομεν πεινῶντα καὶ ἐθρέψαμεν ἢ διψῶντα καὶ ἐποτίσαμεν
38When did we see You a stranger and take [You] in, or naked and clothe [You]? 38πότε δέ σε εἴδομεν ξένον καὶ συνηγάγομεν ἢ γυμνὸν καὶ περιεβάλομεν
39When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’ 39πότε δέ σε εἴδομεν ἀσθενοῦντα ἢ ἐν φυλακῇ καὶ ἤλθομεν πρός σε
40And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ 40Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Βασιλεὺς ἐρεῖ αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ἐφ’ ὅσον ἐποιήσατε ἑνὶ τούτων τῶν ἀδελφῶν μου τῶν ἐλαχίστων ἐμοὶ ἐποιήσατε
41Then He will say to those on [His] left, ‘Depart from Me, [you] who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 41Τότε ἐρεῖ καὶ τοῖς ἐξ εὐωνύμων Πορεύεσθε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ‹οἱ› κατηραμένοι εἰς τὸ πῦρ τὸ αἰώνιον τὸ ἡτοιμασμένον τῷ διαβόλῳ καὶ τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ
42For I was hungry and you gave Me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me nothing to drink, 42ἐπείνασα γὰρ καὶ οὐκ ἐδώκατέ μοι φαγεῖν (καὶ) ἐδίψησα καὶ οὐκ ἐποτίσατέ με
43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, [I was] naked and you did not clothe Me, [I was] sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ 43ξένος ἤμην καὶ οὐ συνηγάγετέ με γυμνὸς καὶ οὐ περιεβάλετέ με ἀσθενὴς καὶ ἐν φυλακῇ καὶ οὐκ ἐπεσκέψασθέ με
44And they too will reply, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 44Τότε ἀποκριθήσονται καὶ αὐτοὶ λέγοντες Κύριε πότε σε εἴδομεν πεινῶντα ἢ διψῶντα ἢ ξένον ἢ γυμνὸν ἢ ἀσθενῆ ἢ ἐν φυλακῇ καὶ οὐ διηκονήσαμέν σοι
45Then [the King] will answer, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me.’ 45Τότε ἀποκριθήσεται αὐτοῖς λέγων Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ἐφ’ ὅσον οὐκ ἐποιήσατε ἑνὶ τούτων τῶν ἐλαχίστων οὐδὲ ἐμοὶ ἐποιήσατε
46And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” 46Καὶ ἀπελεύσονται οὗτοι εἰς κόλασιν αἰώνιον οἱ δὲ δίκαιοι εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον
