1
At that time
the
kingdom
of
heaven
will be like
ten
virgins
who
took
their
lamps
[and] went out
to
meet
the
bridegroom.
1
Τότε
ὁμοιωθήσεται
ἡ
βασιλεία
τῶν
οὐρανῶν
δέκα
παρθένοις
αἵτινες
λαβοῦσαι
τὰς
λαμπάδας
ἑαυτῶν
ἐξῆλθον
εἰς
ὑπάντησιν
τοῦ
νυμφίου
2
Five
of
them
were
foolish,
and
five [were]
wise.
2
πέντε
δὲ
ἐξ
αὐτῶν
ἦσαν
μωραὶ
καὶ
πέντε
φρόνιμοι
3
The
foolish [ones]
took
their
lamps
[but did not] take along
[any extra]
oil.
3
αἱ
γὰρ
μωραὶ
λαβοῦσαι
τὰς
λαμπάδας
‹αὐτῶν›
οὐκ
ἔλαβον
μεθ’
ἑαυτῶν
ἔλαιον
4
But
the
wise [ones]
took
oil
in
flasks
along with
their
lamps.
4
αἱ
δὲ
φρόνιμοι
ἔλαβον
ἔλαιον
ἐν
τοῖς
ἀγγείοις
μετὰ
τῶν
λαμπάδων
ἑαυτῶν
5
[When]
the
bridegroom
was delayed,
they all became drowsy
and
fell asleep.
5
χρονίζοντος
δὲ
τοῦ
νυμφίου
ἐνύσταξαν
πᾶσαι
καὶ
ἐκάθευδον
6
At midnight
the cry
went out:
‘Here is
the
bridegroom!
Come out
to
meet
him!’
6
Μέσης
δὲ
νυκτὸς
κραυγὴ
γέγονεν
Ἰδοὺ
ὁ
νυμφίος
ἐξέρχεσθε
εἰς
ἀπάντησιν
‹αὐτοῦ›
7
Then
all
the
virgins
woke up
and
trimmed
their
lamps.
7
Τότε
ἠγέρθησαν
πᾶσαι
αἱ
παρθένοι
ἐκεῖναι
καὶ
ἐκόσμησαν
τὰς
λαμπάδας
ἑαυτῶν
8
The
foolish ones
said
to the
wise,
‘Give
us
some of
your
oil;
our
lamps
are going out.’
8
αἱ
δὲ
μωραὶ
ταῖς
φρονίμοις
εἶπαν
Δότε
ἡμῖν
ἐκ
τοῦ
ἐλαίου
ὑμῶν
ὅτι
αἱ
λαμπάδες
ἡμῶν
σβέννυνται
9
‘No,’
said
the
wise [ones],
‘or
there may not be enough
for [both] us
and
you.
Instead,
go
to
those who
sell [oil]
and
buy [some]
for yourselves.’
9
Ἀπεκρίθησαν
δὲ
αἱ
φρόνιμοι
λέγουσαι
Μή¦Ποτε
οὐ
μὴ
ἀρκέσῃ
ἡμῖν
καὶ
ὑμῖν
πορεύεσθε
μᾶλλον
πρὸς
τοὺς
πωλοῦντας
καὶ
ἀγοράσατε
ἑαυταῖς
10
But
[while] they
were on their way
to buy [it],
the
bridegroom
arrived.
Those who
were ready
went in
with
him
to
the
wedding banquet,
and
the
door
was shut.
10
Ἀπερχομένων
δὲ
αὐτῶν
ἀγοράσαι
ἦλθεν
ὁ
νυμφίος
καὶ
αἱ
ἕτοιμοι
εἰσῆλθον
μετ’
αὐτοῦ
εἰς
τοὺς
γάμους
καὶ
ἐκλείσθη
ἡ
θύρα
11
Later
,
the
other
virgins
arrived
and
said,
‘Lord,
Lord,
open [the door]
for us!’
11
Ὕστερον
δὲ
ἔρχονται
καὶ
αἱ
λοιπαὶ
παρθένοι
λέγουσαι
Κύριε
κύριε
ἄνοιξον
ἡμῖν
12
But
he replied,
‘Truly
I tell
you,
I do not know
you.’
12
Ὁ
δὲ
ἀποκριθεὶς
εἶπεν
Ἀμὴν
λέγω
ὑμῖν
οὐκ
οἶδα
ὑμᾶς
13
Therefore
keep watch,
because
you do not know
the
day
[or]
the
hour.
13
Γρηγορεῖτε
οὖν
ὅτι
οὐκ
οἴδατε
τὴν
ἡμέραν
οὐδὲ
τὴν
ὥραν
⧼ἐν
ᾗ
ὁ
υἱὸς
τοῦ
ἀνθρώπου
ἔρχεται⧽
14
For
[it] is just like
a man
going on a journey,
who called
his
servants
and
entrusted
them
with his
possessions.
14
Ὥσπερ
γὰρ
ἄνθρωπος
ἀποδημῶν
ἐκάλεσεν
τοὺς
ἰδίους
δούλους
καὶ
παρέδωκεν
αὐτοῖς
τὰ
ὑπάρχοντα
αὐτοῦ
15
To one
he gave
five
talents,
to [another]
two [talents],
and
to [another]
one [talent]—
each
according to
his own
ability.
And
he promptly went on his journey.
15
καὶ
ᾧ
μὲν
ἔδωκεν
πέντε
τάλαντα
ᾧ
δὲ
δύο
ᾧ
δὲ
ἕν
ἑκάστῳ
κατὰ
τὴν
ἰδίαν
δύναμιν
καὶ
ἀπεδήμησεν
Εὐθέως
16
The [servant]
who had received
five
talents
went
[and] put them to work,
and
gained
five
more.
16
Πορευθεὶς
ὁ
τὰ
πέντε
τάλαντα
λαβὼν
ἠργάσατο
ἐν
αὐτοῖς
καὶ
ἐκέρδησεν
ἄλλα
πέντε
17
Likewise,
the [one with]
two [talents]
gained
two
more.
17
ὡσαύτως
ὁ
τὰ
δύο
ἐκέρδησεν
ἄλλα
δύο
18
But
the [servant]
who had received
one [talent]
went off,
dug a hole
in the ground,
and
hid
his
master’s
money.
18
ὁ
δὲ
τὸ
ἓν
λαβὼν
ἀπελθὼν
ὤρυξεν
γῆν
καὶ
ἔκρυψεν
τὸ
ἀργύριον
τοῦ
κυρίου
αὐτοῦ
19
After
a long
time,
the
master
of those
servants
returned
to settle
accounts
with
them.
19
Μετὰ
δὲ
πολὺν
χρόνον
ἔρχεται
ὁ
κύριος
τῶν
δούλων
ἐκείνων
καὶ
συναίρει
λόγον
μετ’
αὐτῶν
20
The [servant]
who had received
five
talents
came
[and] presented
five
more.
‘Master,’
he said,
‘you entrusted
me
{with} five
talents.
See,
I have gained
five
more.’
20
καὶ
προσελθὼν
ὁ
τὰ
πέντε
τάλαντα
λαβὼν
προσήνεγκεν
ἄλλα
πέντε
τάλαντα
λέγων
Κύριε
πέντε
τάλαντά
μοι
παρέδωκας
ἴδε
ἄλλα
πέντε
τάλαντα
ἐκέρδησα
21
His
master
replied,
‘Well done,
good
and
faithful
servant!
You have been
faithful
with
a few things;
I will put
you {in charge}
of
many things.
Enter
into
the
joy
of
your
master!’
21
Ἔφη
αὐτῷ
ὁ
κύριος
αὐτοῦ
Εὖ
δοῦλε
ἀγαθὲ
καὶ
πιστέ
ἐπὶ
ὀλίγα
ἦς
πιστός
ἐπὶ
πολλῶν
σε
καταστήσω
εἴσελθε
εἰς
τὴν
χαρὰν
τοῦ
κυρίου
σου
22
Then
the [servant]
[who had received]
two
talents
also
came
[and] said,
‘Master,
you entrusted
me
{with} two
talents.
See,
I have gained
two
more.’
22
Προσελθὼν
‹δὲ›
καὶ
ὁ
τὰ
δύο
τάλαντα
εἶπεν
Κύριε
δύο
τάλαντά
μοι
παρέδωκας
ἴδε
ἄλλα
δύο
τάλαντα
ἐκέρδησα
23
His
master
replied,
‘Well done,
good
and
faithful
servant!
You have been
faithful
with
a few things;
I will put
you {in charge}
of
many things.
Enter
into
the
joy
of
your
master!’
23
Ἔφη
αὐτῷ
ὁ
κύριος
αὐτοῦ
Εὖ
δοῦλε
ἀγαθὲ
καὶ
πιστέ
ἐπὶ
ὀλίγα
ἦς
πιστός
ἐπὶ
πολλῶν
σε
καταστήσω
εἴσελθε
εἰς
τὴν
χαρὰν
τοῦ
κυρίου
σου
24
Finally,
the [servant]
who had received
one
talent
came
and
said,
‘Master,
I knew
that
you are
a hard
man,
reaping
where
you have not sown,
and
gathering
where
you have not scattered seed.
24
Προσελθὼν
δὲ
καὶ
ὁ
τὸ
ἓν
τάλαντον
εἰληφὼς
εἶπεν
Κύριε
ἔγνων
σε
ὅτι
σκληρὸς
εἶ
ἄνθρωπος
θερίζων
ὅπου
οὐκ
ἔσπειρας
καὶ
συνάγων
ὅθεν
οὐ
διεσκόρπισας
25
So
in my fear,
I went [and]
hid
your
talent
in
the
ground.
See,
you have
what [belongs]
to you.’
25
καὶ
φοβηθεὶς
ἀπελθὼν
ἔκρυψα
τὸ
τάλαντόν
σου
ἐν
τῇ
γῇ
ἴδε
ἔχεις
τὸ
σόν
26
‘You wicked,
lazy
servant!’
replied
his
master.
‘You knew
that
I reap
where
I have not sown
and
gather
where
I have not scattered seed.
26
Ἀποκριθεὶς
δὲ
ὁ
κύριος
αὐτοῦ
εἶπεν
αὐτῷ
Πονηρὲ
δοῦλε
καὶ
ὀκνηρέ
ᾔδεις
ὅτι
θερίζω
ὅπου
οὐκ
ἔσπειρα
καὶ
συνάγω
ὅθεν
οὐ
διεσκόρπισα
27
Then
you
should
have deposited
my
money
with the
bankers,
and
on my return
I would have received
it {back}
with
interest.
27
ἔδει
σε
οὖν
βαλεῖν
τὰ
ἀργύριά
μου
τοῖς
τραπεζίταις
καὶ
ἐλθὼν
ἐγὼ
ἐκομισάμην
ἂν
τὸ
ἐμὸν
σὺν
τόκῳ
28
Therefore
take
the
talent
from
him
and
give [it]
to the [one]
who has
ten
talents.
28
Ἄρατε
οὖν
ἀπ’
αὐτοῦ
τὸ
τάλαντον
καὶ
δότε
τῷ
ἔχοντι
τὰ
δέκα
τάλαντα
29
For
everyone
who has
will be given [more],
and [he]
will have an abundance.
But
the [one who]
{does} not
have,
even
what
he has
will be taken away
from
him.
29
τῷ
γὰρ
ἔχοντι
παντὶ
δοθήσεται
καὶ
περισσευθήσεται
τοῦ
δὲ
μὴ
ἔχοντος
καὶ
ὃ
ἔχει
ἀρθήσεται
ἀπ’
αὐτοῦ
30
And
throw
that
worthless
servant
into
the
outer
darkness,
[where] there
will be
weeping
and
gnashing
of
teeth.’
30
καὶ
τὸν
ἀχρεῖον
δοῦλον
ἐκβάλετε
εἰς
τὸ
σκότος
τὸ
ἐξώτερον
ἐκεῖ
ἔσται
ὁ
κλαυθμὸς
καὶ
ὁ
βρυγμὸς
τῶν
ὀδόντων
31
When
the
Son
of Man
comes
in
His
glory,
and
all
the
angels
with
Him,
He will sit
on
His
glorious
throne.
31
Ὅταν
δὲ
ἔλθῃ
ὁ
υἱὸς
τοῦ
ἀνθρώπου
ἐν
τῇ
δόξῃ
αὐτοῦ
καὶ
πάντες
οἱ
ἄγγελοι
μετ’
αὐτοῦ
τότε
καθίσει
ἐπὶ
θρόνου
δόξης
αὐτοῦ
32
All
the
nations
will be gathered
before
Him,
and
He will separate
[the people]
one from another,
as
a shepherd
separates
the
sheep
from
the
goats.
32
καὶ
συναχθήσονται
ἔμπροσθεν
αὐτοῦ
πάντα
τὰ
ἔθνη
καὶ
ἀφορίσει
αὐτοὺς
ἀπ’
ἀλλήλων
ὥσπερ
ὁ
ποιμὴν
ἀφορίζει
τὰ
πρόβατα
ἀπὸ
τῶν
ἐρίφων
33
He will place
the
sheep
on
His
right
and
the
goats
on
[His] left.
33
καὶ
στήσει
τὰ
μὲν
πρόβατα
ἐκ
δεξιῶν
αὐτοῦ
τὰ
δὲ
ἐρίφια
ἐξ
εὐωνύμων
34
Then
the
King
will say
to those
on
His
right,
‘Come,
you who are
blessed
by
My
Father,
inherit
the
kingdom
prepared
for you
from
[the] foundation
of [the] world.
34
Τότε

35
For

I was

36
[I was] naked

37
Then
the
righteous
will answer
Him,
‘Lord,

37
Τότε

40
And
the
King
will reply,
‘Truly
