The severe judgment of God against Babylon, in revenge of Israel59. Jeremiah delivers the book of this prophecy to Seraiah, to be cast into Euphrates, 64. in token of the perpetual sinking of Babylon “Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon” This phrase refers to the historical figure Nebuchadnezzar II, the powerful ruler of the Neo-Babylonian Empire. In the Hebrew text, his name is spelled נְבוּכַדְנֶאצַּר (Nebuchadnetzar), which means "Nabu, protect my heir." Nebuchadnezzar is known for his military conquests and the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BC. The "delicates" ("dainties" in Genesis 49:20) are the corn and wine and oil and fruits of Palestine with which the Chaldaean armies had enriched themselves.
