1"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me.

1Μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία πιστεύετε εἰς τὸν Θεόν καὶ εἰς ἐμὲ πιστεύετε

2There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there weren't, I wouldn't have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you, would I?

2ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ τοῦ Πατρός μου μοναὶ πολλαί εἰσιν εἰ δὲ μή εἶπον ἂν ὑμῖν ὅτι πορεύομαι ἑτοιμάσαι τόπον ὑμῖν

3And since I'm going away to prepare a place for you, I'll come back again and welcome you into my presence, so that you may be where I am.

3καὶ ἐὰν πορευθῶ καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τόπον ὑμῖν πάλιν ἔρχομαι καὶ παραλήμψομαι ὑμᾶς πρὸς ἐμαυτόν ἵνα ὅπου εἰμὶ ἐγὼ καὶ ὑμεῖς ἦτε

4You know where I am going, and you know the way."

4καὶ ὅπου ἐγὼ ὑπάγω οἴδατε τὴν ὁδόν

5Thomas asked him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"

5Λέγει αὐτῷ Θωμᾶς Κύριε οὐκ οἴδαμεν ποῦ ὑπάγεις πῶς δυνάμεθα* τὴν ὁδὸν ‹εἰδέναι›

6Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

6Λέγει αὐτῷ ‹ὁ› Ἰησοῦς Ἐγώ εἰμι ἡ ὁδὸς καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια καὶ ἡ ζωή οὐδεὶς ἔρχεται πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα εἰ μὴ δι’ ἐμοῦ

7If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him and have seen him."

7εἰ ἐγνώκειτέ με καὶ τὸν Πατέρα μου ‹ἂν ᾔδειτε› ἀπ’ ἄρτι γινώσκετε αὐτὸν καὶ ἑωράκατε ‹αὐτόν›

8Philip told him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us."

8Λέγει αὐτῷ Φίλιππος Κύριε δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα καὶ ἀρκεῖ ἡμῖν

9"Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me?" Jesus asked him. "The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

9Λέγει αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τοσούτῳ* χρόνῳ* μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰμι καὶ οὐκ ἔγνωκάς με Φίλιππε ὁ ἑωρακὼς ἐμὲ ἑώρακεν τὸν Πατέρα πῶς σὺ λέγεις Δεῖξον ἡμῖν τὸν Πατέρα

10You believe, don't you, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I don't speak on my own. It is the Father who dwells in me and who carries out his work.

10οὐ πιστεύεις ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρὶ καὶ ὁ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί ἐστιν τὰ ῥήματα ἃ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἀπ’ ἐμαυτοῦ οὐ λαλῶ ὁ δὲ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοὶ μένων ποιεῖ τὰ ἔργα αὐτοῦ

11Believe me, I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of what I've been doing.

11πιστεύετέ μοι ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρὶ καὶ ὁ Πατὴρ ἐν ἐμοί εἰ δὲ μή διὰ τὰ ἔργα αὐτὰ πιστεύετε

12Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the one who believes in me will also do what I'm doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I'm going to the Father.

12Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὁ πιστεύων εἰς ἐμὲ τὰ ἔργα ἃ ἐγὼ ποιῶ κἀκεῖνος ποιήσει καὶ μείζονα τούτων ποιήσει ὅτι ἐγὼ πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα πορεύομαι

13I'll do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

13καὶ ὅ¦τι ἂν αἰτήσητε ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου τοῦτο ποιήσω ἵνα δοξασθῇ ὁ Πατὴρ ἐν τῷ Υἱῷ

14If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it."

14ἐάν τι αἰτήσητέ με ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐγὼ ποιήσω

15"If you love me, keep my commandments.

15Ἐὰν ἀγαπᾶτέ με τὰς ἐντολὰς τὰς ἐμὰς τηρήσετε

16I will ask the Father to give you another Helper, to be with you always.

16Κἀγὼ ἐρωτήσω τὸν Πατέρα καὶ ἄλλον Παράκλητον δώσει ὑμῖν ἵνα ᾖ «μεθ’ ὑμῶν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα»

17He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor recognizes him. But you recognize him, because he lives with you and will be in you.

17τὸ Πνεῦμα τῆς ἀληθείας ὃ ὁ κόσμος οὐ δύναται λαβεῖν ὅτι οὐ θεωρεῖ αὐτὸ οὐδὲ γινώσκει ὑμεῖς γινώσκετε αὐτό ὅτι παρ’ ὑμῖν μένει καὶ ἐν ὑμῖν ἔσται

18I'm not going to forsake you like orphans. I will come back to you.

18Οὐκ ἀφήσω ὑμᾶς ὀρφανούς ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς

19"In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also.

19ἔτι μικρὸν καὶ ὁ κόσμος με οὐκέτι θεωρεῖ ὑμεῖς δὲ θεωρεῖτέ με ὅτι ἐγὼ ζῶ καὶ ὑμεῖς ζήσετε

20At that time, you'll know that I am in my Father, that you are in me, and that I am in you.

20ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ γνώσεσθε ὑμεῖς ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ Πατρί μου καὶ ὑμεῖς ἐν ἐμοὶ κἀγὼ ἐν ὑμῖν

21The person who has my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I, too, will love him and reveal myself to him."

21ὁ ἔχων τὰς ἐντολάς μου καὶ τηρῶν αὐτὰς ἐκεῖνός ἐστιν ὁ ἀγαπῶν με ὁ δὲ ἀγαπῶν με ἀγαπηθήσεται ὑπὸ τοῦ Πατρός μου κἀγὼ ἀγαπήσω αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμφανίσω αὐτῷ ἐμαυτόν

22Judas (not Iscariot) asked him, "Lord, how is it that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not to the world?"

22Λέγει αὐτῷ Ἰούδας οὐχ ὁ Ἰσκαριώτης Κύριε καὶ τί γέγονεν ὅτι ἡμῖν μέλλεις ἐμφανίζειν σεαυτὸν καὶ οὐχὶ τῷ κόσμῳ

23Jesus answered him, "If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him.

23Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἐάν τις ἀγαπᾷ με τὸν λόγον μου τηρήσει καὶ ὁ Πατήρ μου ἀγαπήσει αὐτόν καὶ πρὸς αὐτὸν ἐλευσόμεθα καὶ μονὴν παρ’ αὐτῷ ποιησόμεθα

24The one who doesn't love me doesn't keep my words. The words that you're hearing me say are not mine, but come from the Father who sent me.

24ὁ μὴ ἀγαπῶν με τοὺς λόγους μου οὐ τηρεῖ καὶ ὁ λόγος ὃν ἀκούετε οὐκ ἔστιν ἐμὸς ἀλλὰ τοῦ πέμψαντός με Πατρός

25"I have told you this while I am still with you.

25Ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν παρ’ ὑμῖν μένων

26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything that I have told you.

26ὁ δὲ Παράκλητος τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον ὃ πέμψει ὁ Πατὴρ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου ἐκεῖνος ὑμᾶς διδάξει πάντα καὶ ὑπομνήσει ὑμᾶς πάντα ἃ εἶπον ὑμῖν ἐγώ

27I'm leaving you at peace. I'm giving you my own peace. I'm not giving it to you as the world gives. So don't let your hearts be troubled, and don't be afraid.

27Εἰρήνην ἀφίημι ὑμῖν εἰρήνην τὴν ἐμὴν δίδωμι ὑμῖν οὐ καθὼς ὁ κόσμος δίδωσιν ἐγὼ δίδωμι ὑμῖν μὴ ταρασσέσθω ὑμῶν ἡ καρδία μηδὲ δειλιάτω

28You have heard me tell you, 'I'm going away, but I'm coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I'm going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.

28ἠκούσατε ὅτι ἐγὼ εἶπον ὑμῖν Ὑπάγω καὶ ἔρχομαι πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰ ἠγαπᾶτέ με ἐχάρητε ἄν ὅτι πορεύομαι πρὸς τὸν Πατέρα ὅτι ὁ Πατὴρ μείζων μού ἐστιν

29I've told you this now, before I leave, so that when I do leave, you will believe.

29καὶ νῦν εἴρηκα ὑμῖν πρὶν γενέσθαι ἵνα ὅταν γένηται πιστεύσητε

30I won't talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me.

30Οὐκέτι πολλὰ λαλήσω μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἔρχεται γὰρ ὁ τοῦ κόσμου ἄρχων καὶ ἐν ἐμοὶ οὐκ ἔχει οὐδέν

31But I'm doing what the Father has commanded me, to let the world know that I love the Father. Get up! Let us leave this place."

31ἀλλ’ ἵνα γνῷ ὁ κόσμος ὅτι ἀγαπῶ τὸν Πατέρα καὶ καθὼς ἐνετείλατο (ἔδωκέν) μοι ὁ Πατὴρ οὕτως ποιῶ Ἐγείρεσθε ἄγωμεν ἐντεῦθεν
