| 60On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?” | 60Then many of his disciples, when they heard these things, said, "This is a difficult saying! Who can understand it?" |
| 61Aware that His disciples were grumbling about this teaching, Jesus asked them, “Does this offend you? | 61When Jesus was aware that his disciples were complaining about this, he said to them, "Does this cause you to be offended? |
| 62Then what will happen if you see the Son of Man ascend to where He was before? | 62Then what if you see the Son of Man ascending where he was before? |
| 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. | 63The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help! The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. |
| 64However, there are some of you who do not believe.” (For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray Him.) | 64But there are some of you who do not believe." | 65Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.” | 65So Jesus added, "Because of this I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has allowed him to come." |
| 66From that time on many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him. | 66After this many of his disciples quit following him and did not accompany him any longer. |
| 67So Jesus asked the Twelve, “Do you want to leave too?” | 67So Jesus said to the twelve, "You don't want to go away too, do you?" |
| 68Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. | 68Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life. |

| 70Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” | 70Jesus replied, "Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and yet one of you is the devil?" |
| 71He was speaking about Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. For although Judas was one of the Twelve, he was later to betray Jesus. | 71(Now he said this about Judas son of Simon Iscariot, for Judas, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.) |
