Berean Interlinear Bible Jesus Delivered to Pilate 1Καὶ (And) εὐθὺς (early) πρωῒ (in the morning), συμβούλιον (a counsel) ποιήσαντες* (having formed) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) πρεσβυτέρων (elders), καὶ (and) γραμματέων (scribes), καὶ (and) ὅλον (all) τὸ (the) συνέδριον (Council), δήσαντες (having bound) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ἀπήνεγκαν (they led Him away) καὶ (and) παρέδωκαν (delivered Him) Πιλάτῳ (to Pilate). 2Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησεν (questioned) αὐτὸν (Him) ὁ (-) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), “Σὺ (You) εἶ (are) ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?” Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) αὐτῷ (to him), λέγει (He says), “Σὺ (You) λέγεις (have said).” 3Καὶ (And) κατηγόρουν (were accusing) αὐτοῦ (Him) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) πολλά (of many things). 4Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) πάλιν (again) ἐπηρώτα (began to question) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγων (saying), “Οὐκ (Not) ἀποκρίνῃ (answer You) οὐδέν (nothing)? ἴδε (See) πόσα (how many things) σου (You) κατηγοροῦσιν (they testify against)!” 5Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐκέτι (no longer) οὐδὲν (nothing) ἀπεκρίθη (answered), ὥστε (so as) θαυμάζειν (to amaze) τὸν (-) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate). The Crowd Chooses Barabbas 6Κατὰ (At) δὲ (then) ἑορτὴν (the feast), ἀπέλυεν (he used to release) αὐτοῖς (to them) ἕνα (one) δέσμιον (prisoner), ὃν (whom) παρῃτοῦντο (they requested). 7ἦν (There was) δὲ (then) ὁ (the one) λεγόμενος (called) Βαραββᾶς (Barabbas), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) στασιαστῶν (rebels) δεδεμένος (having been bound), οἵτινες (who) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) στάσει (insurrection) φόνον (murder) πεποιήκεισαν (had committed). 8καὶ (And) ἀναβὰς (having cried out), ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ἤρξατο (began) αἰτεῖσθαι (to beg him to do) καθὼς (as usually) ἐποίει (he did) αὐτοῖς (for them). 9Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) ἀπεκρίθη (answered) αὐτοῖς (them), λέγων (saying), “Θέλετε (Wish you that) ἀπολύσω (I should release) ὑμῖν (to you) τὸν (the) Βασιλέα (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?” 10ἐγίνωσκεν (He was aware) γὰρ (for) ὅτι (that) διὰ (because of) φθόνον (envy) παραδεδώκεισαν (had delivered up) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests). 11Οἱ (-) δὲ (But) ἀρχιερεῖς (the chief priests) ἀνέσεισαν (stirred up) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd) ἵνα (so that) μᾶλλον (instead) τὸν (-) Βαραββᾶν (Barabbas) ἀπολύσῃ (he might release) αὐτοῖς (to them). Pilate Delivers up Jesus 12Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) πάλιν (again) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering), ἔλεγεν (was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (What) οὖν (then) ‹θέλετε› (do you wish that) ποιήσω (I should do) ὃν (to Him) λέγετε (you call) τὸν (the) Βασιλέα (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)?” 13Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) πάλιν (again) ἔκραξαν (they cried out), “Σταύρωσον (Crucify) αὐτόν (Him)!” 14Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) ἔλεγεν (was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Τί (What) γὰρ (indeed) ἐποίησεν (did He commit) κακόν (evil)?” Οἱ (-) δὲ (But) περισσῶς (much more) ἔκραξαν (they shouted), “Σταύρωσον (Crucify) αὐτόν (Him)!” 15Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate), βουλόμενος (desiring) τῷ (to the) ὄχλῳ (crowd) τὸ (that which was) ἱκανὸν (satisfactory) ποιῆσαι (to do), ἀπέλυσεν (released) αὐτοῖς (to them) τὸν (-) Βαραββᾶν (Barabbas), καὶ (and) παρέδωκεν (he delivered) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), φραγελλώσας (having flogged him), ἵνα (that) σταυρωθῇ (He might be crucified). The Soldiers Mock Jesus 16Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) στρατιῶται (the soldiers) ἀπήγαγον (led away) αὐτὸν (him) ἔσω (into) τῆς (the) αὐλῆς (palace), ὅ (that) ἐστιν (is) Πραιτώριον (the Praetorium), καὶ (and) συνκαλοῦσιν (they call together) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) σπεῖραν (cohort). 17καὶ (And) ἐνδιδύσκουσιν (they put on) αὐτὸν (Him) πορφύραν (purple), καὶ (and) περιτιθέασιν (placed on) αὐτῷ (Him), πλέξαντες (having twisted together) ἀκάνθινον (of thorns) στέφανον (a crown), 18καὶ (and) ἤρξαντο (they began) ἀσπάζεσθαι (to salute) αὐτόν (Him), “Χαῖρε (Hail), Βασιλεῦ (King) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews)!” 19Καὶ (And) ἔτυπτον (they kept striking) αὐτοῦ (His) τὴν (-) κεφαλὴν (head) καλάμῳ (with a reed), καὶ (and) ἐνέπτυον (spitting on) αὐτῷ (Him); καὶ (and), τιθέντες (bending) τὰ (the) γόνατα (knees), προσεκύνουν (they were kneeling down) αὐτῷ (to Him). 20καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἐνέπαιξαν (they had mocked) αὐτῷ (Him), ἐξέδυσαν (they took off) αὐτὸν (him) τὴν (the) πορφύραν (purple) καὶ (and) ἐνέδυσαν (put on) αὐτὸν (Him) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτοῦ (His) ‹ἴδια› (own). Καὶ (And) ἐξάγουσιν (they are leading out) αὐτὸν (him), ἵνα (that) σταυρώσωσιν (they might crucify) αὐτόν (Him). The Crucifixion 21Καὶ (And) ἀγγαρεύουσιν (they compel), παράγοντά (passing by) τινα (one), Σίμωνα (Simon) Κυρηναῖον (of Cyrene), ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἀπ’ (from) ἀγροῦ (the country), τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) Ἀλεξάνδρου (of Alexander) καὶ (and) Ῥούφου (Rufus), ἵνα (that) ἄρῃ (he might carry) τὸν (the) σταυρὸν (cross) αὐτοῦ (of Him). 22Καὶ (And) φέρουσιν (they bring) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐπὶ (to) τὸν (-) Γολγοθᾶν (Golgotha), τόπον (a place) ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) μεθερμηνευόμενον* (translated), Κρανίου (of a Skull) τόπος (Place). 23καὶ (And) ἐδίδουν (they were offering) αὐτῷ (Him), ἐσμυρνισμένον (having been mixed with myrrh), οἶνον (wine); ὃς (He) δὲ (however) οὐκ (not) ἔλαβεν (did take it). 24Καὶ (And) σταυροῦσιν (having crucified) αὐτὸν (Him), καὶ (also) διαμερίζονται (they divided) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτοῦ (of Him), βάλλοντες (casting) κλῆρον (lots) ἐπ’ (for) αὐτὰ (them), τίς (who) τί (what) ἄρῃ (should take). 25Ἦν (It was) δὲ (then) ὥρα (the hour) τρίτη (third), καὶ (and) ἐσταύρωσαν (they crucified) αὐτόν (Him). 26καὶ (And) ἦν (there was) ἡ (the) ἐπιγραφὴ (inscription) τῆς (of the) αἰτίας (accusation) αὐτοῦ (against Him) ἐπιγεγραμμένη (having been written): 27Καὶ (And) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) σταυροῦσιν (they crucify) δύο (two) λῃστάς (robbers), ἕνα (one) ἐκ (at) δεξιῶν (the right hand), καὶ (and) ἕνα (one) ἐξ (at the) εὐωνύμων (left) αὐτοῦ (of Him).a 29Καὶ (And) οἱ (those) παραπορευόμενοι (passing by) ἐβλασφήμουν (were railing at) αὐτὸν (Him), κινοῦντες (shaking) τὰς (the) κεφαλὰς (heads) αὐτῶν (of them) καὶ (and) λέγοντες (saying), “Οὐὰ (Aha)! ὁ (The One) καταλύων (destroying) τὸν (the) ναὸν (temple) καὶ (and) οἰκοδομῶν (building it) ἐν (in) τρισὶν (three) ἡμέραις (days), 30σῶσον (save) σεαυτὸν (Yourself), καταβὰς (having descended) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) σταυροῦ (cross)!” 31Ὁμοίως (Likewise) καὶ (also) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests), ἐμπαίζοντες (mocking) πρὸς (among) ἀλλήλους (one another), μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) γραμματέων (scribes), ἔλεγον (were saying), “Ἄλλους (Others) ἔσωσεν (He saved); ἑαυτὸν (Himself) οὐ (not) δύναται (He is able) σῶσαι (to save). 32ὁ (The) Χριστὸς (Christ), ὁ (the) Βασιλεὺς (King) Ἰσραὴλ (of Israel), καταβάτω (let Him descend) νῦν (now) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) σταυροῦ (cross), ἵνα (that) ἴδωμεν (we might see) καὶ (and) πιστεύσωμεν (believe)!” καὶ (And) οἱ (those) συνεσταυρωμένοι (being crucified) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) ὠνείδιζον (were upbraiding) αὐτόν (Him). The Death of Jesus 33Καὶ (And) γενομένης (having arrived) ὥρας (the hour) ἕκτης (sixth), σκότος (darkness) ἐγένετο (came) ἐφ’ (over) ὅλην (all) τὴν (the) γῆν (land), ἕως (until) ὥρας (the hour) ἐνάτης (ninth). 34καὶ (And) τῇ (at the) ἐνάτῃ (ninth) ὥρᾳ (hour), ἐβόησεν (cried out) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) φωνῇ (in a voice) μεγάλῃ (loud), “Ἐλωῒ (Eloi), Ἐλωῒ (Eloi), λεμὰ* (lema) σαβαχθάνι* (sabachthani)?” ὅ (Which) ἐστιν (is) μεθερμηνευόμενον (translated), “Ὁ (-) Θεός (God) μου (of Me), ὁ (-) Θεός (God) μου (of Me), εἰς (to) τί (why) ἐγκατέλιπές (have You forsaken) με (Me)?”b 35Καί (And) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) παρεστηκότων (standing by), ἀκούσαντες (having heard), ἔλεγον (were saying), “Ἴδε (Behold), Ἠλίαν (Elijah) φωνεῖ (He calls).” 36Δραμὼν (Having run) δέ (then) τις (one) καὶ (and) γεμίσας (having filled) σπόγγον (a sponge) ὄξους (with vinegar), περιθεὶς (having put it on) καλάμῳ (a reed), ἐπότιζεν (gave to drink) αὐτόν (him), λέγων (saying), “Ἄφετε (Let be); ἴδωμεν (let us see) εἰ (if) ἔρχεται (comes) Ἠλίας (Elijah) καθελεῖν (to take down) αὐτόν (him).” 37Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), ἀφεὶς (having uttered) φωνὴν (a cry) μεγάλην (loud), ἐξέπνευσεν (breathed His last). 38Καὶ (And) τὸ (the) καταπέτασμα (veil) τοῦ (of the) ναοῦ (temple) ἐσχίσθη (was torn) εἰς (into) δύο (two) ἀπ’ (from) ἄνωθεν (top) ἕως (to) κάτω (bottom). 39Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) κεντυρίων (centurion) ὁ (-) παρεστηκὼς (standing) ἐξ (from) ἐναντίας (opposite of) αὐτοῦ (Him) ὅτι (that) οὕτως (thus) ἐξέπνευσεν (He breathed His last),c εἶπεν (he said), “Ἀληθῶς (Truly) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) ἄνθρωπος (man) Υἱὸς (the Son) Θεοῦ (of God) ἦν (was)!” 40Ἦσαν (There were) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) γυναῖκες (women) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar off) θεωροῦσαι (looking on), ἐν (among) αἷς (whom) καὶ (also) Μαρία (Mary) ἡ (-) Μαγδαληνὴ (Magdalene), καὶ (and) Μαρία (Mary) ἡ (the) Ἰακώβου (of James) τοῦ (the) μικροῦ (least) καὶ (and) Ἰωσῆτος (of Joseph) μήτηρ (mother), καὶ (and) Σαλώμη (Salome), 41αἳ (who), ὅτε (when) ἦν (He was) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Γαλιλαίᾳ (Galilee), ἠκολούθουν (had been following) αὐτῷ (Him) καὶ (and) διηκόνουν (had been ministering) αὐτῷ (to Him), καὶ (and) ἄλλαι (other) πολλαὶ (many), αἱ (those) συναναβᾶσαι (having come up with) αὐτῷ (Him) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem). The Burial of Jesus 42Καὶ (And) ἤδη (already) ὀψίας (evening) γενομένης (having arrived), ἐπεὶ (since) ἦν (it was the) Παρασκευή (Preparation), ὅ (that) ἐστιν (is), προσάββατον (the day before Sabbath), 43ἐλθὼν (having come), Ἰωσὴφ (Joseph) ὁ (-) ἀπὸ (from) Ἁριμαθαίας (Arimathea), εὐσχήμων (a prominent) βουλευτής (Council member), ὃς (who) καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (himself) ἦν (was) προσδεχόμενος (waiting for) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), τολμήσας (having boldness), εἰσῆλθεν (went in) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Πιλᾶτον (Pilate) καὶ (and) ᾐτήσατο (asked for) τὸ (the) σῶμα (body) τοῦ (-) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). 44Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Πιλᾶτος (Pilate) ἐθαύμασεν (wondered) εἰ (if) ἤδη (already) τέθνηκεν (He were dead). καὶ (And) προσκαλεσάμενος (having called to him) τὸν (the) κεντυρίωνα (centurion), ἐπηρώτησεν (he questioned) αὐτὸν (him) εἰ (whether) πάλαι (already) ἀπέθανεν (He had died). 45καὶ (And) γνοὺς (having known it) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) κεντυρίωνος (centurion), ἐδωρήσατο (He granted) τὸ (the) πτῶμα (body) τῷ (-) Ἰωσήφ (to Joseph). 46Καὶ (And) ἀγοράσας (having bought) σινδόνα (a linen cloth), καθελὼν (having taken down) αὐτὸν (him), ἐνείλησεν (he wrapped Him in) τῇ (the) σινδόνι (linen cloth) καὶ (and) ἔθηκεν* (laid) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐν (in) μνημείῳ* (a tomb) ὃ (which) ἦν (was) λελατομημένον (cut) ἐκ (out of) πέτρας (a rock). καὶ (And) προσεκύλισεν (he rolled) λίθον (a stone) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) θύραν (door) τοῦ (of the) μνημείου (tomb).
