And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.1They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasenes.
And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,2When He got out of the boat, immediately a man from the tombs with an unclean spirit met Him,
Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains:3and he had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, even with a chain;
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.4because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.5Constantly, night and day, he was screaming among the tombs and in the mountains, and gashing himself with stones.
But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,6Seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran up and bowed down before Him;
And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.7and shouting with a loud voice, he said, "What business do we have with each other, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I implore You by God, do not torment me!"
For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.8For He had been saying to him, "Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!"
And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.9And He was asking him, "What is your name?" And he said to Him, "My name is Legion; for we are many."
And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.10And he began to implore Him earnestly not to send them out of the country.
Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding.11Now there was a large herd of swine feeding nearby on the mountain.
And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.12The demons implored Him, saying, "Send us into the swine so that we may enter them."
And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea.13Jesus gave them permission. And coming out, the unclean spirits entered the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, about two thousand of them; and they were drowned in the sea.
And they that fed the swine fled, and told it in the city, and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that was done.14Their herdsmen ran away and reported it in the city and in the country. And the people came to see what it was that had happened.
And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.15They came to Jesus and observed the man who had been demon-possessed sitting down, clothed and in his right mind, the very man who had had the "legion"; and they became frightened.
And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine.16Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and all about the swine.
And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.17And they began to implore Him to leave their region.
And when he was come into the ship, he that had been possessed with the devil prayed him that he might be with him.18As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed was imploring Him that he might accompany Him.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.19And He did not let him, but He said to him, "Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He had mercy on you."
And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him: and all men did marvel.20And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.
And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.21When Jesus had crossed over again in the boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him; and so He stayed by the seashore.
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,22One of the synagogue officials named Jairus came up, and on seeing Him, fell at His feet
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.23and implored Him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter is at the point of death; please come and lay Your hands on her, so that she will get well and live."
And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.24And He went off with him; and a large crowd was following Him and pressing in on Him.
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,25A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years,
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,26and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse--
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.27after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak.
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.28For she thought, "If I just touch His garments, I will get well."
And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.29Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?30Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My garments?"
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?31And His disciples said to Him, "You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, 'Who touched Me?'"
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.32And He looked around to see the woman who had done this.
But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.33But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.34And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction."
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?35While He was still speaking, they came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, "Your daughter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?"
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.36But Jesus, overhearing what was being spoken, said to the synagogue official, "Do not be afraid any longer, only believe."
And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.37And He allowed no one to accompany Him, except Peter and James and John the brother of James.
And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.38They came to the house of the synagogue official; and He saw a commotion, and people loudly weeping and wailing.
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.39And entering in, He said to them, "Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep."
And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.40They began laughing at Him. But putting them all out, He took along the child's father and mother and His own companions, and entered the room where the child was.
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.41Taking the child by the hand, He said to her, "Talitha kum!" (which translated means, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!").
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.42Immediately the girl got up and began to walk, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were completely astounded.
And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.43And He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this, and He said that something should be given her to eat.
