| 1Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes. | 1Then they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gerasenes. |
| 2And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, | 2As soon as He got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs and met Him. |
| 3who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, | 3He lived in the tombs. No one was able to restrain him anymore--even with chains-- |
| 4because he had often been bound with shackles and chains. | 13And at once Jesus gave them permission. Then the unclean spirits went out and entered the swine (there were about two thousand); and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and drowned in the sea. | 13And He gave them permission. | 14So those who fed the swine fled, and they told it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had happened. | 14The men who tended them ran off and reported it in the town and the countryside, and people went to see what had happened. |
| 15Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. | 15They came to Jesus and saw the man who had been demon-possessed by the legion, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. |
| 16And those who saw it told them how it happened to him who had been demon-possessed, and about the swine. | 16The eyewitnesses described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and told about the pigs. |
| 17Then they began to plead with Him to depart from their region. | 17Then they began to beg Him to leave their region. |
| 18And when He got into the boat, he who had been demon-possessed begged Him that he might be with Him. | 18As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed kept begging Him to be with Him. |
| 19However, Jesus did not permit him, but said to him, “Go home to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how He has had compassion on you.” | 19But He would not let him; instead, He told him, "Go back home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has had mercy on you." |
| 20And he departed and began to proclaim in Decapolis all that Jesus had done for him; and all marveled. | 20So he went out and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and they were all amazed. |
| 21Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea. | 21When Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him while He was by the sea. |

| 23and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” | 23and kept begging Him, "My little daughter is at death's door. Come and lay Your hands on her so she can get well and live." |
| 24So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him. | 24So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against Him. |
| 25Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, | 25A woman suffering from bleeding for 12 years |
| 26and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. | 26had endured much under many doctors. She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. |
| 27When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. | 27Having heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His robe. |
| 28For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” | 28For she said, "If I can just touch His robes, I'll be made well!" |
| 29Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. | 29Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was cured of her affliction. |
| 30And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” | 30At once Jesus realized in Himself that power had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd and said, "Who touched My robes?" |
| 31But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” | 31His disciples said to Him, "You see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, Who touched Me?'" |
| 32And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. | 32So He was looking around to see who had done this. |

| 35While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. | 36As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” | 36But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, "Don't be afraid. Only believe." |
| 37And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. | 37He did not let anyone accompany Him except Peter, James, and John, James's brother. |
| 38Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. | 38They came to the leader's house, and He saw a commotion--people weeping and wailing loudly. |
| 39When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” | 39He went in and said to them, "Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The child is not dead but asleep." |
| 40And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. | 40They started laughing at Him, but He put them all outside. He took the child's father, mother, and those who were with Him, and entered the place where the child was. |
| 41Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” | 41Then He took the child by the hand and said to her, "Talitha koum!" (which is translated, "Little girl, I say to you, get up!"). |
| 42Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement. | 42Immediately the girl got up and began to walk. (She was 12 years old.) At this they were utterly astounded. |
| 43But He commanded them strictly that no one should know it, and said that something should be given her to eat. | 43Then He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this and said that she should be given something to eat. |
