I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea,1Now I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deaconess in the church at Cenchrea.
that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.2Welcome her in the Lord as is appropriate for saints, and provide her with anything she may need from you, for she has assisted many people, including me.
Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus,3Greet Prisca and Aquila, who work with me for the Messiah Jesus,
who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.4and who risked their necks for my life. I am thankful to them, and so are all the churches among the gentiles.
Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ.5Greet also the church in their house. Greet my dear friend Epaenetus, who was the first convert to the Messiah in Asia.
Greet Mary, who labored much for us.6Greet Mary, who has worked very hard for you.
Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.7Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who are in prison with me and are prominent among the apostles. They belonged to the Messiah before I did.
Greet Amplias, my beloved in the Lord.8Greet Ampliatus, my dear friend in the Lord.
Greet Urbanus, our fellow worker in Christ, and Stachys, my beloved.9Greet Urbanus, our co-worker in the Messiah, and my dear friend Stachys.
Greet Apelles, approved in Christ. Greet those who are of the household of Aristobulus.10Greet Apelles, who has been approved by the Messiah. Greet those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.
Greet Herodion, my countryman. Greet those who are of the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord.11Greet Herodion, my fellow Jew. Greet those in the family of Narcissus, who belong to the Lord.
Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who have labored in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who labored much in the Lord.12Greet Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who have worked hard for the Lord. Greet my dear friend Persis, who has toiled diligently for the Lord.
Greet Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.13Greet Rufus, the one chosen by the Lord, and his mother, who has been a mother to me, too.
Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren who are with them.14Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers who are with them.
Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them.15Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas and all the saints who are with them.
Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you.16Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of the Messiah greet you.
Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.17Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create divisions and sinful enticements that oppose the teaching you have learned. Stay away from them,
For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.18because such people are not serving the Messiah our Lord, but their own desires. By their smooth talk and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.
For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil.19For your obedience has become known to everyone, and I am full of joy for you. But I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.20The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with all of you!
Timothy, my fellow worker, and Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my countrymen, greet you.21Timothy, my fellow worker, greets you, as do Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, my fellow Jews.
I, Tertius, who wrote this epistle, greet you in the Lord.22I, Tertius, who penned this letter, greet you in the Lord.
Gaius, my host and the host of the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the treasurer of the city, greets you, and Quartus, a brother.23Gaius, who is host to me and the whole church, greets you. Erastus, the city treasurer, and our brother Quartus greet you.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.24May the grace of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, be with all of you!
Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began25Now to the one who is able to strengthen you with my gospel and the message that I preach about Jesus, the Messiah, by revealing the secret that was kept hidden from long ago
but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith—26but now has been made known through the prophets to all the gentiles, in keeping with the decree of the eternal God to bring them to the obedience that springs from faith—
to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.27to the only wise God, through Jesus the Messiah, be glory forever! Amen.
