I love you, LORD; you are my strength. | 1For the choir director. Of the servant of the LORD, David, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love You, LORD, my strength. |
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. | 2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. |
I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. | 3I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. |
The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. | 4The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. |
The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. | 5The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. |
But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears. | 6I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears. |
Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the mountains shook; they quaked because of his anger. | 7Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because He burned with anger. |
Smoke poured from his nostrils; fierce flames leaped from his mouth. Glowing coals blazed forth from him. | 8Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; coals were set ablaze by it. |
He opened the heavens and came down; dark storm clouds were beneath his feet. | 9He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud beneath His feet. |
Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. | 10He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. |
He shrouded himself in darkness, veiling his approach with dark rain clouds. | 11He made darkness His hiding place, dark storm clouds His canopy around Him. |
Thick clouds shielded the brightness around him and rained down hail and burning coals. | 12From the radiance of His presence, His clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals. |
The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded amid the hail and burning coals. | 13The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High projected His voice. |
He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies; great bolts of lightning flashed, and they were confused. | 14He shot His arrows and scattered them; He hurled lightning bolts and routed them. |
Then at your command, O LORD, at the blast of your breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare. | 15The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at Your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. |
He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. | 16He reached down from heaven and took hold of me; He pulled me out of deep waters. |
He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. | 17He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. |
They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the LORD supported me. | 18They confronted me in the day of my distress, but the LORD was my support. |
He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me. | 19He brought me out to a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me. |
The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence. | 20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; He repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. |
For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not turned from my God to follow evil. | 21For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness. |
I have followed all his regulations; I have never abandoned his decrees. | 22Indeed, I have kept all His ordinances in mind and have not disregarded His statutes. |
I am blameless before God; I have kept myself from sin. | 23I was blameless toward Him and kept myself from sinning. |
The LORD rewarded me for doing right. He has seen my innocence. | 24So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. |
To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. | 25With the faithful You prove Yourself faithful; with the blameless man You prove Yourself blameless; |
To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. | 26with the pure You prove Yourself pure, but with the crooked You prove Yourself shrewd. |
You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud. | 27For You rescue an afflicted people, but You humble those with haughty eyes. |
You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. | 28 LORD, You light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness. |
In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall. | 29With You I can attack a barrier, and with my God I can leap over a wall. |
God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. | 30God--His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. |
For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock? | 31For who is God besides Yahweh? And who is a rock? Only our God. |
God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. | 32God--He clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect. |
He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. | 33He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights. |
He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. | 34He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. |
You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great. | 35You have given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your humility exalts me. |
You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping. | 36You widen a place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way. |
I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered. | 37I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out. |
I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet. | 38I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet. |
You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet. | 39You have clothed me with strength for battle; You subdue my adversaries beneath me. |
You placed my foot on their necks. I have destroyed all who hated me. | 40You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me. |
They called for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the LORD, but he refused to answer. | 41They cry for help, but there is no one to save them-- they cry to the LORD, but He does not answer them. |
I ground them as fine as dust in the wind. I swept them into the gutter like dirt. | 42I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets. |
You gave me victory over my accusers. You appointed me ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me. | 43You have freed me from the feuds among the people; You have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me. |
As soon as they hear of me, they submit; foreign nations cringe before me. | 44Foreigners submit to me grudgingly; as soon as they hear, they obey me. |
They all lose their courage and come trembling from their strongholds. | 45Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications. |
The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! | 46The LORD lives--may my rock be praised! The God of my salvation is exalted. |
He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me | 47God--He gives me vengeance and subdues peoples under me. |
and rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. | 48He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; You rescue me from violent men. |
For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. | 49Therefore I will praise You, Yahweh, among the nations; I will sing about Your name. |
You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever. | 50He gives great victories to His king; He shows loyalty to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever. |
