| 1Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate. | 1And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council. | 15Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified. | 15So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. |
| 16The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. | 16And the soldiers led him away inside the palace (that is, the governor’s headquarters), and they called together the whole battalion. |

| 32Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe." | 33At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. | 33And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. |
| 34And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?" | 36Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. "Now leave him alone. Let's see if Elijah comes to take him down," he said. | 36And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink, saying, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.” |
