| 10Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." | 10Jesus answered, "If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, Give Me a drink,' you would ask Him, and He would give you living water."" |
| 11She said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep; where then do You get that living water? | 11Sir," said the woman, "You don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep. So where do You get this 'living water? |
| 12"You are not greater than our father Jacob, are You, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself and his sons and his cattle?" | 12You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are You? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock." |
| 13Jesus answered and said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; | 13Jesus said, "Everyone who drinks from this water will get thirsty again. |
| 14but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life." | 14But whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never get thirsty again--ever! | 15The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, so I will not be thirsty nor come all the way here to draw." | 15Sir," the woman said to Him, "give me this water so I won't get thirsty and come here to draw water." |
| 16He said to her, "Go, call your husband and come here." | 16"Go call your husband," He told her, "and come back here."" |
| 17The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have correctly said, 'I have no husband'; | 17I don't have a husband," she answered. "You have correctly said, I don't have a husband,'" Jesus said. |
| 18for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly." | 18"For you've had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true."" |
| 19The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. | 19Sir," the woman replied, "I see that You are a prophet. |
| 20"Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." | 20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, yet you Jews say that the place to worship is in Jerusalem." |
| 21Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. | 21 Jesus told her, "Believe Me, woman, an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. |
| 22"You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. | 22You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. |
| 23"But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. | 23But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Yes, the Father wants such people to worship Him. |
| 24"God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." | 24God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." |
| 25The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called Christ); when that One comes, He will declare all things to us." | 25The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will explain everything to us." |
| 26Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He." | 26"I am He," Jesus told her, "the One speaking to you." |
| 27At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman, yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why do You speak with her?" | 27Just then His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman. | 28So the woman left her waterpot, and went into the city and said to the men, | 28Then the woman left her water jar, went into town, and told the men, " |
| 29"Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?" | 29Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?" |
| 30They went out of the city, and were coming to Him. | 30They left the town and made their way to Him. |
| 31Meanwhile the disciples were urging Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat." | 31In the meantime the disciples kept urging Him, "Rabbi, eat something." |
| 32But He said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not know about." | 32But He said, "I have food to eat that you don't know about." |
| 33So the disciples were saying to one another, "No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?" | 33The disciples said to one another, "Could someone have brought Him something to eat?" |
| 34Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. | 34"My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work," Jesus told them. |
| 35"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest '? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. | 35"Don't you say, There are still four more months, then comes the harvest? Listen to what I'm telling you: Open your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready for harvest. |
| 36"Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. | 36The reaper is already receiving pay and gathering fruit for eternal life, so the sower and reaper can rejoice together. |
| 37"For in this case the saying is true, 'One sows and another reaps.' | 37For in this case the saying is true: One sows and another reaps.' |

| 39From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, "He told me all the things that I have done." | 39Now many Samaritans from that town believed in Him because of what the woman said when she testified, "He told me everything I ever did." |
| 40So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. | 40Therefore, when the Samaritans came to Him, they asked Him to stay with them, and He stayed there two days. |
| 41Many more believed because of His word; | 41Many more believed because of what He said. |

| 47When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and was imploring Him to come down and heal his son; for he was at the point of death. | 47When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and pleaded with Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die. |
| 48So Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you simply will not believe." | 48Jesus told him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe."" |
| 49The royal official said to Him, "Sir, come down before my child dies." | 49Sir," the official said to Him, "come down before my boy dies!" |
| 50Jesus said to him, "Go; your son lives." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and started off. | 50"Go," Jesus told him, "your son will live." The man believed what Jesus said to him and departed. |
| 51As he was now going down, his slaves met him, saying that his son was living. | 51While he was still going down, his slaves met him saying that his boy was alive. |
| 52So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. Then they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him." | 52He asked them at what time he got better. "Yesterday at seven in the morning the fever left him," they answered. |
| 53So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives"; and he himself believed and his whole household. | 53The father realized this was the very hour at which Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." Then he himself believed, along with his whole household. |
| 54This is again a second sign that Jesus performed when He had come out of Judea into Galilee. | 54This, therefore, was the second sign Jesus performed after He came from Judea to Galilee. |
