Now He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a paralyzed hand.
In order to accuse Him, they were watching Him closely to see whether He would heal him on the Sabbath.2καὶ παρετήρουν αὐτὸν εἰ τοῖς σάββασιν θεραπεύσει αὐτόν ἵνα κατηγορήσωσιν αὐτοῦ
He told the man with the paralyzed hand, "Stand before us."3Καὶ λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ τὴν «χεῖρα ἔχοντι» ξηράν Ἔγειρε εἰς τὸ μέσον
Then He said to them, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do what is good or to do what is evil, to save life or to kill?" But they were silent.4καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Ἔξεστιν τοῖς σάββασιν ἀγαθὸν¦ποιῆσαι κακοποιῆσαι ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἀποκτεῖναι Οἱ δὲ ἐσιώπων
After looking around at them with anger and sorrow at the hardness of their hearts, He told the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.5Καὶ περιβλεψάμενος αὐτοὺς μετ’ ὀργῆς συλλυπούμενος* ἐπὶ τῇ πωρώσει τῆς καρδίας αὐτῶν λέγει τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ Ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρα (σου) καὶ ἐξέτεινεν καὶ ἀπεκατεστάθη χεὶρ αὐτοῦ
Immediately the Pharisees went out and started plotting with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him. 6Καὶ ἐξελθόντες οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εὐθὺς μετὰ τῶν Ἡρῳδιανῶν συμβούλιον ἐδίδουν κατ’ αὐτοῦ ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀπολέσωσιν
Jesus departed with His disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee, Judea,7Καὶ Ἰησοῦς μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν αὐτοῦ ἀνεχώρησεν πρὸς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πολὺ πλῆθος ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἠκολούθησεν καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς Ἰουδαίας
Jerusalem, Idumea, beyond the Jordan, and around Tyre and Sidon. The large crowd came to Him because they heard about everything He was doing.
Then He told His disciples to have a small boat ready for Him, so the crowd would not crush Him. 9Καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς μαθηταῖς αὐτοῦ ἵνα πλοιάριον προσκαρτερῇ αὐτῷ διὰ τὸν ὄχλον ἵνα μὴ θλίβωσιν αὐτόν
Since He had healed many, all who had diseases were pressing toward Him to touch Him. 10πολλοὺς γὰρ ἐθεράπευσεν ὥστε ἐπιπίπτειν αὐτῷ ἵνα αὐτοῦ ἅψωνται ὅσοι εἶχον μάστιγας
Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, those possessed fell down before Him and cried out, "You are the Son of God!"11καὶ τὰ πνεύματα τὰ ἀκάθαρτα ὅταν αὐτὸν ἐθεώρουν προσέπιπτον αὐτῷ καὶ ἔκραζον λέγοντα ὅτι Σὺ εἶ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ
And He would strongly warn them not to make Him known.
Then He went up the mountain and summoned those He wanted, and they came to Him. 13Καὶ ἀναβαίνει εἰς τὸ ὄρος καὶ προσκαλεῖται οὓς ἤθελεν αὐτός καὶ ἀπῆλθον πρὸς αὐτόν
He also appointed 12--He also named them apostles--to be with Him, to send them out to preach,14καὶ ἐποίησεν δώδεκα [οὓς καὶ ἀποστόλους ὠνόμασεν] ἵνα ὦσιν μετ’ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἵνα ἀποστέλλῃ αὐτοὺς κηρύσσειν
and to have authority to drive out demons.
He appointed the Twelve: To Simon, He gave the name Peter; 16Καὶ ἐποίησεν τοὺς δώδεκα καὶ ἐπέθηκεν ὄνομα τῷ Σίμωνι Πέτρον
and to James the son of Zebedee, and to his brother John, He gave the name "Boanerges" (that is, "Sons of Thunder"); 17καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ζεβεδαίου καὶ Ἰωάννην τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ Ἰακώβου καὶ ἐπέθηκεν αὐτοῖς ὀνόματα* Βοανηργές ἐστιν Υἱοὶ Βροντῆς
Andrew; Philip and Bartholomew; Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, 18καὶ Ἀνδρέαν καὶ Φίλιππον καὶ Βαρθολομαῖον καὶ Μαθθαῖον καὶ Θωμᾶν καὶ Ἰάκωβον τὸν τοῦ Ἁλφαίου καὶ Θαδδαῖον καὶ Σίμωνα τὸν Καναναῖον
and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. 19καὶ Ἰούδαν Ἰσκαριώθ ὃς καὶ παρέδωκεν αὐτόν
Then He went home, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.20Καὶ ἔρχεται εἰς οἶκον καὶ συνέρχεται πάλιν ὄχλος ὥστε μὴ δύνασθαι αὐτοὺς μηδὲ ἄρτον φαγεῖν
When His family heard this, they set out to restrain Him, because they said, "He's out of His mind." 21καὶ ἀκούσαντες οἱ παρ’ αὐτοῦ ἐξῆλθον κρατῆσαι αὐτόν ἔλεγον γὰρ ὅτι Ἐξέστη
The scribes who had come down from Jerusalem said, "He has Beelzebul in Him!" and, "He drives out demons by the ruler of the demons!" 22Καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς οἱ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων καταβάντες ἔλεγον ὅτι Βεελζεβοὺλ ἔχει καὶ ὅτι Ἐν τῷ ἄρχοντι τῶν δαιμονίων ἐκβάλλει τὰ δαιμόνια
So He summoned them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan?23Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος αὐτοὺς ἐν παραβολαῖς ἔλεγεν αὐτοῖς Πῶς δύναται Σατανᾶς Σατανᾶν ἐκβάλλειν
If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.
If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.
And if Satan rebels against himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished!
"On the other hand, no one can enter a strong man's house and rob his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he will rob his house. 27ἀλλ’ οὐ δύναται οὐδεὶς εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἰσχυροῦ εἰσελθὼν τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ διαρπάσαι ἐὰν μὴ πρῶτον τὸν ἰσχυρὸν δήσῃ καὶ τότε τὴν οἰκίαν αὐτοῦ διαρπάσει
I assure you: People will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies they may blaspheme.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin" --29ὃς δ’ ἂν βλασφημήσῃ εἰς τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον οὐκ ἔχει ἄφεσιν εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα ἀλλὰ ἔνοχός ἐστιν αἰωνίου ἁμαρτήματος
because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit." 30Ὅτι ἔλεγον Πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον ἔχει
Then His mother and His brothers came, and standing outside, they sent word to Him and called Him. 31Καὶ ἔρχονται μήτηρ αὐτοῦ καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔξω στήκοντες ἀπέστειλαν πρὸς αὐτὸν καλοῦντες αὐτόν
A crowd was sitting around Him and told Him, "Look, Your mother, Your brothers, and Your sisters are outside asking for You." 32καὶ ἐκάθητο περὶ αὐτὸν ὄχλος καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Ἰδοὺ μήτηρ σου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί σου καὶ αἱ ἀδελφαί σου ἔξω ζητοῦσίν σε
He replied to them, "Who are My mother and My brothers?"33Καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς αὐτοῖς λέγει Τίς ἐστιν μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί ‹μου›
And looking about at those who were sitting in a circle around Him, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!34καὶ περιβλεψάμενος τοὺς περὶ αὐτὸν κύκλῳ καθημένους λέγει Ἴδε μήτηρ μου καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοί μου
Whoever does the will of God is My brother and sister and mother." 35ὃς ‹γὰρ› ἂν ποιήσῃ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ οὗτος ἀδελφός μου καὶ ἀδελφὴ καὶ μήτηρ ἐστίν
