The day for rebuilding your walls will come— This phrase speaks to a future time of restoration and hope for the people of Israel. Historically, walls were crucial for the protection and identity of a city. In the context of Micah, this prophecy likely refers to the period after the Babylonian exile when Jerusalem's walls were physically rebuilt under Nehemiah's leadership (Nehemiah 2:17-18). Spiritually, it symbolizes God's promise to restore and protect His people. Theologically, it points to the ultimate restoration through Christ, who is the cornerstone of the spiritual temple (Ephesians 2:20-22). the day for extending your boundary. Persons / Places / Events 1. MicahA prophet in the 8th century BC, Micah delivered messages of judgment and hope to the people of Judah and Israel. His prophecies often addressed social injustices and the need for repentance. 2. Judah and Israel The divided kingdoms of God's chosen people. Micah's prophecies were directed towards both, calling them to return to God and warning them of impending judgment. 3. Rebuilding of Walls Symbolic of restoration and protection. In ancient times, city walls were crucial for defense and represented the strength and security of a city. 4. Extension of Boundaries Represents growth, prosperity, and the fulfillment of God's promises. It signifies a time when God's people will expand and flourish. 5. Day of Restoration A prophetic time when God will restore His people, bringing them back to a place of security and blessing. Teaching Points Hope in RestorationGod's promise of restoration is a source of hope for believers. No matter the current circumstances, God has a plan for renewal and growth. Spiritual Rebuilding Just as physical walls are rebuilt, believers are called to rebuild their spiritual lives, fortifying themselves with God's Word and prayer. Expanding Influence Extending boundaries can be seen as a call to expand our influence for God's kingdom, reaching out to others with the Gospel. Trust in God's Timing The "day" of rebuilding and extending is in God's hands. Believers are encouraged to trust in His perfect timing for restoration and blessing. Community and Unity The rebuilding of walls and extension of boundaries often requires community effort and unity. Believers are called to work together in faith and love.(11) In that day shall the decree be far removed.--The "decree" was something "definite," as an appointed law or statute, and this should be far removed. Some interpret this prophecy to mean the removal of the law of separation between Jews and Gentiles; others explain it as predicting that the decree of God concerned not the Jews only, but distant nations who should press into the kingdom of God. And this explanation coincides with the effect of the decree, which was to bring to Jerusalem people from "the ends of the world."Verse 11. - The prophet here addresses Zion, and announces her restoration. In the day that thy walls are to be built; rather, a day for building thy walls (gader) cometh. Zion is represented as a vineyard whose fence has been destroyed (Isaiah 5:5, 7). The announcement is given abruptly and concisely in three short sentences. In that day shall the decree be far removed. The decree (Zephaniah 2:2) is explained by Hengstenberg and many commentators, ancient and modern, to he that of the enemy by which they held Israel captive. Keil and others suppose the law to be meant which separated Israel from all other nations, the ancient ordinance which confined God's people and the blessings of the theocracy to narrow limits. This is now to be set aside (comp. Ephesians 2:11-16), when heathen nations flock to the city of God. Oaspari, Hitzig, Cheyne, and others translate, "shall the bound be afar off," i.e. the boundaries of the land of Israel shall be widely extended (comp. Isaiah 33:17, which Cheyne explains, "Thine eyes shall behold a widely extended territory"). Wordsworth obtains much the same meaning by taking the verb in the sense of "promulgated," and referring the "decree," as in Psalm 2:7, 8, to God's purpose of giving to Messiah the utmost parts of the earth for a possession. The building, of the walls does not indicate the narowing of the limits of the theocratic kingdom. Whether chok be taken to signify "decree" (lex, Vulgate) or "boundary," the effect of its removal afar is seen by the next verse to be the entrance of foreign nations into the kingdom of God. The LXX. favours the first interpretation, Ἀποτρίψεται [ἀπώσεται, Alex.] νόμιμά σου [σου ομιτ, Alex.] ἡ ἡμέρα ἐκείνη, "That day shall utterly abolish thy ordinances." Parallel Commentaries ...
