And He said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power.” | 1And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.” |
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. | 2And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, |
His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them. | 3and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them. |
And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. | 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. |
Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”— | 5And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” |
because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid. | 6For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified. |
And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!” | 7And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” |
Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves. | 8And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only. |
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead. | 9And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead. |
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant. | 10So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean. |
And they asked Him, saying, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” | 11And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” |
Then He answered and told them, “Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt? | 12And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt? |
But I say to you that Elijah has also come, and they did to him whatever they wished, as it is written of him.” | 13But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.” |
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them. | 14And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them. |
Immediately, when they saw Him, all the people were greatly amazed, and running to Him, greeted Him. | 15And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him. |
And He asked the scribes, “What are you discussing with them?” | 16And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?” |
Then one of the crowd answered and said, “Teacher, I brought You my son, who has a mute spirit. | 17And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute. |
And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. So I spoke to Your disciples, that they should cast it out, but they could not.” | 18And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.” |
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me.” | 19And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.” |
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth. | 20And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. |
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. | 21And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. |
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” | 22And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” |
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” | 23And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” |
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” | 24Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” |
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!” | 25And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” |
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.” | 26And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.” |
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. | 27But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. |
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” | 28And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?” |
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” | 29And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.” |
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it. | 30They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know, |
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.” | 31for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.” |
But they did not understand this saying, and were afraid to ask Him. | 32But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him. |
Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, “What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?” | 33And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?” |
But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. | 34But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. |
And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” | 35And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.” |
Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, | 36And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them, |
“Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me.” | 37“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.” |
Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.” | 38John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” |
But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. | 39But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. |
For he who is not against us is on our side. | 40For the one who is not against us is for us. |
For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward. | 41For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward. |
“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. | 42“Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. |
If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— | 43And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. |
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ | 44 |
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched— | 45And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. |
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ | 46 |
And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— | 47And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, |
where ‘Their worm does not die And the fire is not quenched.’ | 48‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ |
“For everyone will be seasoned with fire, and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. | 49For everyone will be salted with fire. |
Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.” | 50Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.” |
