Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.1Καὶ εἶδον οὐρανὸν καινὸν καὶ γῆν καινήν γὰρ πρῶτος οὐρανὸς καὶ πρώτη γῆ ἀπῆλθαν καὶ θάλασσα οὐκ ἔστιν ἔτι
I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.2καὶ τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἁγίαν Ἰερουσαλὴμ καινὴν εἶδον καταβαίνουσαν ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἡτοιμασμένην ὡς νύμφην κεκοσμημένην τῷ ἀνδρὶ αὐτῆς
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God.3Καὶ ἤκουσα φωνῆς μεγάλης ἐκ τοῦ θρόνου λεγούσης Ἰδοὺ σκηνὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ μετὰ τῶν ἀνθρώπων καὶ σκηνώσει μετ’ αὐτῶν καὶ αὐτοὶ λαοὶ αὐτοῦ ἔσονται καὶ αὐτὸς Θεὸς μετ’ αὐτῶν ἔσται [αὐτῶν θεός]
‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”4καὶ ἐξαλείψει πᾶν δάκρυον ἐκ τῶν ὀφθαλμῶν αὐτῶν καὶ θάνατος οὐκ ἔσται ἔτι οὔτε πένθος οὔτε κραυγὴ οὔτε πόνος οὐκ ἔσται ἔτι ὅτι τὰ πρῶτα ἀπῆλθαν
And the One seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are faithful and true.”5Καὶ εἶπεν καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῷ θρόνῳ Ἰδοὺ καινὰ ποιῶ πάντα καὶ λέγει Γράψον ὅτι οὗτοι οἱ λόγοι πιστοὶ καὶ ἀληθινοί εἰσιν
And He told me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give freely from the spring of the water of life.6καὶ εἶπέν μοι Γέγοναν ἐγὼ [εἰμι] τὸ Ἄλφα καὶ τὸ ἀρχὴ καὶ τὸ τέλος ἐγὼ τῷ διψῶντι δώσω ἐκ τῆς πηγῆς τοῦ ὕδατος τῆς ζωῆς δωρεάν
The one who overcomes will inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son.7 νικῶν κληρονομήσει ταῦτα καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ Θεὸς καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι υἱός
But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”8Τοῖς δὲ δειλοῖς καὶ ἀπίστοις καὶ ἐβδελυγμένοις καὶ φονεῦσιν καὶ πόρνοις καὶ φαρμάκοις καὶ εἰδωλολάτραις καὶ πᾶσιν τοῖς ψευδέσιν τὸ μέρος αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ λίμνῃ τῇ καιομένῃ πυρὶ καὶ θείῳ ἐστιν θάνατος δεύτερος
Then one of the seven angels with the seven bowls full of the seven final plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”9Καὶ ἦλθεν εἷς ἐκ τῶν ἑπτὰ ἀγγέλων τῶν ἐχόντων τὰς ἑπτὰ φιάλας τῶν γεμόντων τῶν ἑπτὰ πληγῶν τῶν ἐσχάτων καὶ ἐλάλησεν μετ’ ἐμοῦ λέγων Δεῦρο δείξω σοι τὴν νύμφην τὴν γυναῖκα τοῦ ἀρνίου
And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the holy city of Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God,10Καὶ ἀπήνεγκέν με ἐν Πνεύματι ἐπὶ ὄρος μέγα καὶ ὑψηλόν καὶ ἔδειξέν μοι τὴν πόλιν τὴν ἁγίαν Ἰερουσαλὴμ καταβαίνουσαν ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ
shining with the glory of God. Its radiance was like a most precious jewel, like a jasper, as clear as crystal.11ἔχουσαν τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Θεοῦ φωστὴρ αὐτῆς ὅμοιος λίθῳ τιμιωτάτῳ ὡς λίθῳ ἰάσπιδι κρυσταλλίζοντι
The city had a great and high wall with twelve gates inscribed with the names of the twelve tribes of Israel, and twelve angels at the gates.12ἔχουσα τεῖχος μέγα καὶ ὑψηλόν ἔχουσα πυλῶνας δώδεκα καὶ ἐπὶ τοῖς πυλῶσιν ἀγγέλους δώδεκα καὶ ὀνόματα ἐπιγεγραμμένα ἐστιν [τὰ ὀνόματα] τῶν δώδεκα φυλῶν υἱῶν Ἰσραήλ
There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south, and three on the west.13ἀπὸ ἀνατολῆς πυλῶνες τρεῖς καὶ ἀπὸ βορρᾶ πυλῶνες τρεῖς καὶ ἀπὸ νότου πυλῶνες τρεῖς καὶ ἀπὸ δυσμῶν πυλῶνες τρεῖς
The wall of the city had twelve foundations bearing the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.14καὶ τὸ τεῖχος τῆς πόλεως ἔχων θεμελίους δώδεκα καὶ ἐπ’ αὐτῶν δώδεκα ὀνόματα τῶν δώδεκα ἀποστόλων τοῦ Ἀρνίου
The angel who spoke with me had a golden measuring rod to measure the city and its gates and walls.15Καὶ λαλῶν μετ’ ἐμοῦ εἶχεν μέτρον κάλαμον χρυσοῦν ἵνα μετρήσῃ τὴν πόλιν καὶ τοὺς πυλῶνας αὐτῆς καὶ τὸ τεῖχος αὐτῆς
The city lies foursquare, with its width the same as its length. And he measured the city with the rod, and all its dimensions were equal—12,000 stadia in length and width and height.16καὶ πόλις τετράγωνος κεῖται καὶ τὸ μῆκος αὐτῆς ὅσον [καὶ] τὸ πλάτος καὶ ἐμέτρησεν τὴν πόλιν τῷ καλάμῳ ἐπὶ σταδίων δώδεκα χιλιάδων τὸ μῆκος καὶ τὸ πλάτος καὶ τὸ ὕψος αὐτῆς ἴσα ἐστίν
And he measured its wall to be 144 cubits, by the human measure the angel was using.17καὶ ἐμέτρησεν τὸ τεῖχος αὐτῆς ἑκατὸν τεσσεράκοντα τεσσάρων πηχῶν μέτρον ἀνθρώπου ἐστιν ἀγγέλου
The wall was made of jasper, and the city itself of pure gold, as pure as glass.18Καὶ ἐνδώμησις τοῦ τείχους αὐτῆς ἴασπις καὶ πόλις χρυσίον καθαρὸν ὅμοιον ὑάλῳ καθαρῷ
The foundations of the city walls were adorned with every kind of precious stone: The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,19οἱ θεμέλιοι τοῦ τείχους τῆς πόλεως παντὶ λίθῳ τιμίῳ κεκοσμημένοι θεμέλιος πρῶτος ἴασπις δεύτερος σάπφιρος τρίτος χαλκηδών τέταρτος σμάραγδος
the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.20 πέμπτος σαρδόνυξ ἕκτος σάρδιον ἕβδομος χρυσόλιθος ὄγδοος βήρυλλος ἔνατος τοπάζιον δέκατος χρυσόπρασος ἑνδέκατος ὑάκινθος δωδέκατος ἀμέθυστος
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, with each gate consisting of a single pearl. The main street of the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.21Καὶ οἱ δώδεκα πυλῶνες δώδεκα μαργαρῖται ἀνὰ εἷς ἕκαστος τῶν πυλώνων ἦν ἐξ ἑνὸς μαργαρίτου καὶ πλατεῖα τῆς πόλεως χρυσίον καθαρὸν ὡς ὕαλος διαυγής
But I saw no temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.22Καὶ ναὸν οὐκ εἶδον ἐν αὐτῇ γὰρ Κύριος Θεὸς Παντοκράτωρ ναὸς αὐτῆς ἐστιν καὶ τὸ Ἀρνίον
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp.23καὶ πόλις οὐ χρείαν ἔχει τοῦ ἡλίου οὐδὲ τῆς σελήνης ἵνα φαίνωσιν αὐτῇ γὰρ δόξα τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐφώτισεν αὐτήν καὶ λύχνος αὐτῆς τὸ Ἀρνίον
By its light the nations will walk, and into it the kings of the earth will bring their glory.24καὶ περιπατήσουσιν τὰ ἔθνη διὰ τοῦ φωτὸς αὐτῆς καὶ οἱ βασιλεῖς τῆς γῆς φέρουσιν τὴν δόξαν ⧼καὶ τιμὴν τῶν ἐθνῶν⧽ αὐτῶν εἰς αὐτήν
Its gates will never be shut at the end of the day, because there will be no night there.25καὶ οἱ πυλῶνες αὐτῆς οὐ μὴ κλεισθῶσιν ἡμέρας νὺξ γὰρ οὐκ ἔσται ἐκεῖ
And into the city will be brought the glory and honor of the nations.26Καὶ οἴσουσιν τὴν δόξαν καὶ τὴν τιμὴν τῶν ἐθνῶν εἰς αὐτήν
But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who practices an abomination or a lie, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.27καὶ οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτὴν πᾶν κοινὸν καὶ ποιῶν βδέλυγμα καὶ ψεῦδος εἰ μὴ οἱ γεγραμμένοι ἐν τῷ βιβλίῳ τῆς ζωῆς τοῦ Ἀρνίου
