1And when the morning arrived, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so that they might put Him to death; 2And having bound Him, they led Him away and handed Him over to Pilate, the governor.

3Then Judas, the one having handed Him over, having seen that He was condemned, having regretted it (repented), returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4Saying, I sinned, having betrayed innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? You will see (or See to that yourself). 5And having cast down the pieces of silver into the temple, he withdrew, and having gone away, hanged (strangled, choked) himself. 6And the chief priests, having taken the pieces of silver said, It is not permitted to put them into the sacred treasury (Corban- gift offering dedicated to God), since it is the price of blood. 7And having taken consultation, they bought from out of them the field of the potter unto a burial place for foreigners (strangers). 8Therefore that there field was called, Field of blood, until this day. 9Then was fulfilled that having been spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of Him having been priced, whom they set a price on from the sons of Israel, 10And they gave them unto the field of the potter, just as the Lord directed me.

11And Jesus stood before the governor; and the governor inquired of Him, saying, Are You the King of the Jews? And Jesus said, You say. 12And in His being accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing. 13Then Pilate says to Him, Do You not hear how many things they testify against You? 14And He did not answer him even one saying (rhema), so as to exceedingly marvel the governor.

15And at the feast, the governor was accustomed to release one prisoner to the crowd, whom they wished. 16And they had then a notable (conspicuous, notorious) prisoner called Barabbas. 17They therefore being gathered together, Pilate said to them, Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas or Jesus, who is called Christ? 18For he knew that they handed Him over through envy, ill-will, spite, grudge, strong feeling that sours).

19However as he was sitting upon the judgment seat, his wife sent to him, saying, [Let there be] nothing [between] you and that there Righteous Man; for I suffered many things today in a dream because of Him. 20And the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds, so that they should ask for Barabbas, and should destroy Jesus. 21And answering, the governor said to them, Which from the two do you want me to release to you? And they said, Barabbas. 22Pilate says to them, What then should I do with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all say, Let Him be crucified! 23And he said, What wrong (kakon) did He commit? And they cried out vehemently (exceedingly, abundantly), saying, Let Him be crucified!

24And Pilate having seen that it benefited (availed, helped) nothing, but rather an uproar (riot, noisy upheaval) was beginning (coming into being), having taken water, he washed his hands before (over against, in opposition to, in front of) the crowd, saying, I am guiltless (innocent) of the blood of this Man. You will see for yourselves (See to it yourselves, See you, See you to it). 25And answering, all the people said, Let His blood be upon us and upon our children. 26Then he released Barabbas to them; and having Jesus flooged, he handed Him over so that He might be crucified.

27Then the soldiers of the governor, having taken Jesus with them unto the praetorium (governors official residence), gathered to (upon) Him the whole battalion (Roman cohort, military guard of about a tenth part of a legion); 28And having stripped Him, they put around Him a scarlet (crimson) short cloak (a short cloak worn by Roman officers and soldiers). 29And having twisted together a crown (victors garland) from out of thorns, they put it upon His head; and a reed (reed-staff) in His right hand; and having bowed the knees before Him, they mocked (ridiculed, made sport of) Him, saying, Hail (Rejoice), King of the Jews! 30And having spit on Him, they took the reed (reed-staff) and struck Him on His head. 31And when they had mocked Him, they took off Him the short cloak (short Roman officer and soldier cloak) and they put His garments on Him; and led Him away to crucify Him.

32And going out, they found a man of Cyrene, named Simon. They compelled (pressed) him so that he might take up (lift up, raise) His cross.

33And having come unto a place called Golgotha, which is called the place of a skull (latin-Calvariae- Calvary root is cranium). 34They gave Him wine (oinon) mingled (mixed) with gall (bitter herbs) to drink; and having tasted, He was not willing to drink it.

35And having crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots; {so that that which might be fulfilled was spoken by the prophet, They divided My garments among themselves, and upon My garment they cast a lot- not in Vulgate, Darby, ESV, NSAB}. 36And sitting down, they kept guard over Him there. 37And they placed above His head His accusation written: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.

38Then are crucified with Him two robbers, one from out of the right, and one from out of the left. 39And those passing by blasphemed Him, shaking (moving, wagging) their heads, 40And saying, The One destroying the temple and in three days building it, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, also come down away from the cross! 41Likewise also, the chief priests, mocking, with the scribes and the elders, said, 42He saved others, He is not able to save Himself. He is King of Israel. Let Him now come down away from the cross, and we will believe upon Him. 43He trusted upon God. Let Him now rescue Him if He wants Him. For He said, I am the Son of God. 44And likewise also those robbers having been crucified with Him, reproached (insulted, reviled) Him.

45And from the sixth hour, there was darkness over (upon) all the land until the ninth hour; 46And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a great voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? That is, My God, My God, why have You forsaken (in-down-to leave, abandoned, deserted, left in a condition of lack) Me? 47And some of those who were standing there, having heard, said, This Man calls Elijah. 48And directly, one from out of them having run and having taken a sponge, and having filled it with vinegar (oxous, sour wine, common drink of Roman soldiers, latin-aceto-vinegar- vinegar is mainly acetic acid) and having put it on a reed, gave it to Him to drink. 49And the rest said, Let be; let us see whether Elijah comes to save Him. 50And Jesus again, having cried with a great voice, sent away (released, permitted to depart, left go, latin-emisit-sent) His spirit. 51And behold, the veil of the temple was torn from above (top) to below (bottom) into two; and the earth was shaken and the rocks were split, 52And the tombs were opened and many bodies of the saints having fallen asleep arose, 53and having gone from out of the tombs after His resurrection, they entered into the holy city and appeared to many. 54And the centurion and those keeping guard of Jesus with him, having seen the earthquake and the things having happened, feared very much, saying, Truly this was God’s Son.

55And there were many women looking on from a long distance who followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering (diakonousai, serving) to Him, 56Among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph; and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.

57And evening having arrived, a rich man from Arimathea came, by name Joseph, who also himself was discipled by (to) Jesus. 58He having gone to Pilate, asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded it to be given over (given from). 59And having taken the body, Joseph wrapped it up in a clean, fine linen cloth, 60and placed it in his new (unused) tomb, which he had cut in the rock; and having rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, went away. 61And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary sitting opposite (over against, before) the tomb.

62And the next day, which is after the preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together to Pilate, 63Saying, Lord (Sir), we have remembered how that there deceiver said while living, After three days I will arise. 64Therefore command that the tomb be secured until the third day, lest ever His disciples having come, secretly steal Him away, and say to the people, He is risen away from the dead; and the last deception will be worse than the first. 65Pilate said to them, You have a guard; Go make [it as] secure as you know [how]. 66And having gone, they made the tomb secure, having sealed the stone with the guard.
