"Yes," replied Jesus, "have you never read, "'From the lips of children and infants you, Lord, have called forth your praise'?" |

| 21So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. | 21Jesus replied, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. |

| 23Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?” | 23Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?" |
| 24But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: | 24Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 25The baptism of John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?” And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ | 25John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?' |
| 26But if we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the multitude, for all count John as a prophet.” | 26But if we say, 'Of human origin'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet." |
| 27So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.” And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things. | 27So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things. |
| 28“But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ | 28"What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.' |
| 29He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. | 29"'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. |

| 31Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said to Him, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. | 31"Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. |
| 32For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him. | 32For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. |
| 33“Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and went into a far country. | 33"Listen to another parable: There was a landowner who planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a winepress in it and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. |
| 34Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. | 34When the harvest time approached, he sent his servants to the tenants to collect his fruit. |

| 41They said to Him, “He will destroy those wicked men miserably, and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will render to him the fruits in their seasons.” | 41"He will bring those wretches to a wretched end," they replied, "and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time." |
| 42Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the LORD’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes’? | 42Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: "'The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes'? |
| 43“Therefore I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. | 43"Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. |
| 44And whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, it will grind him to powder.” | 44Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed." |
| 45Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they perceived that He was speaking of them. | 45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. |
| 46But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitudes, because they took Him for a prophet. | 46They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet. |
