| 1And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. | 1And calling His twelve disciples to Him, Jesus gave them authority over unclean spirits, so that they could drive them out and heal every disease and sickness. |

| 11“Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. | 11Whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy there and stay at his house until you move on. |
| 12And when you go into a household, greet it. | 12As you enter the home, greet its occupants. |
| 13If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. | 13If the home is worthy, let your peace rest on it; but if it is not, let your peace return to you. |
| 14And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. | 14And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town. |
| 15Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! | 15Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town. |
| 16“Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. | 16Behold, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. |
| 17But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues. | 17But beware of men; for they will hand you over to their councils and flog you in their synagogues. |
| 18You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles. | 18On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. |
| 19But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; | 19But when they hand you over, do not worry about how to respond or what to say. In that hour you will be given what to say. |
| 20for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you. | 20For it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. |
| 21“Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death. | 21Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rise against their parents and have them put to death. |
| 22And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. | 22You will be hated by everyone because of My name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. |
| 23When they persecute you in this city, flee to another. For assuredly, I say to you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. | 23When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next. Truly I tell you, you will not reach all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. |
| 24“A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. | 24A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. |
| 25It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household! | 25It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household! |
| 26Therefore do not fear them. For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. | 26So do not be afraid of them. For there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be made known. |
| 27“Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. | 27What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops. |
| 28And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. | 28Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
| 29Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. | 29Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. |
| 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. | 30And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. |
| 31Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. | 31So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. |
| 32“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. | 32Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father in heaven. |
| 33But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. | 33But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father in heaven. |
| 34“Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. | 34Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. |
| 35For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; | 35For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. |
| 36and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ | 36A man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ |
| 37He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. | 37Anyone who loves his father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me; |
| 38And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. | 38and anyone who does not take up his cross and follow Me is not worthy of Me. |
| 39He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. | 39Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. |
| 40“He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. | 40He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the One who sent Me. |
| 41He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. | 41Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. |
| 42And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.” | 42And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is My disciple, truly I tell you, he will never lose his reward.” |
