1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on his opinions.

1Τὸν δὲ ἀσθενοῦντα τῇ πίστει προσλαμβάνεσθε μὴ εἰς διακρίσεις διαλογισμῶν

2For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables.

2ὃς μὲν πιστεύει φαγεῖν πάντα ὁ δὲ ἀσθενῶν λάχανα ἐσθίει

3The one who eats everything must not belittle the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted him.

3ὁ ἐσθίων τὸν μὴ ἐσθίοντα μὴ ἐξουθενείτω ὁ δὲ μὴ ἐσθίων τὸν ἐσθίοντα μὴ κρινέτω ὁ Θεὸς γὰρ αὐτὸν προσελάβετο

4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

4σὺ τίς εἶ ὁ κρίνων ἀλλότριον οἰκέτην τῷ ἰδίῳ κυρίῳ στήκει ἢ πίπτει σταθήσεται δέ δυνατεῖ γὰρ ὁ Κύριος στῆσαι αὐτόν

5One person regards a certain day above the others, while someone else considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.

5Ὃς μὲν γὰρ κρίνει ἡμέραν παρ’ ἡμέραν ὃς δὲ κρίνει πᾶσαν ἡμέραν ἕκαστος ἐν τῷ ἰδίῳ νοῒ πληροφορείσθω

6He who observes a special day does so to the Lord; he who eats does so to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

6ὁ φρονῶν τὴν ἡμέραν Κυρίῳ φρονεῖ ⧼καὶ ὁ μὴ φρονῶν τὴν ἡμέραν κυρίῳ οὐ φρονεῖ⧽ ὁ ἐσθίων Κυρίῳ ἐσθίει εὐχαριστεῖ γὰρ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ ὁ μὴ ἐσθίων Κυρίῳ οὐκ ἐσθίει καὶ εὐχαριστεῖ τῷ Θεῷ

7For none of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone.

7Οὐδεὶς γὰρ ἡμῶν ἑαυτῷ ζῇ καὶ οὐδεὶς ἑαυτῷ ἀποθνῄσκει

8If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

8ἐάν τε γὰρ ζῶμεν τῷ Κυρίῳ ζῶμεν ἐάν τε ἀποθνήσκωμεν τῷ Κυρίῳ ἀποθνήσκομεν ἐάν τε οὖν ζῶμεν ἐάν τε ἀποθνήσκωμεν τοῦ Κυρίου ἐσμέν

9For this reason Christ died and returned to life, that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

9εἰς τοῦτο γὰρ Χριστὸς ἀπέθανεν καὶ ἔζησεν ἵνα καὶ νεκρῶν καὶ ζώντων κυριεύσῃ

10Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

10Σὺ δὲ τί κρίνεις τὸν ἀδελφόν σου ἢ καὶ σὺ τί ἐξουθενεῖς τὸν ἀδελφόν σου πάντες γὰρ παραστησόμεθα τῷ βήματι τοῦ Θεοῦ

11It is written: “As surely as I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow before Me; every tongue will confess to God.”

11γέγραπται γάρ Ζῶ ἐγώ λέγει Κύριος ὅτι ἐμοὶ κάμψει πᾶν γόνυ καὶ πᾶσα γλῶσσα ἐξομολογήσεται τῷ Θεῷ

12So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

12Ἄρα οὖν ἕκαστος ἡμῶν περὶ ἑαυτοῦ λόγον δώσει τῷ Θεῷ

13Therefore let us stop judging one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

13Μηκέτι οὖν ἀλλήλους κρίνωμεν ἀλλὰ τοῦτο κρίνατε μᾶλλον τὸ μὴ τιθέναι πρόσκομμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ ἢ σκάνδαλον

14I am convinced and fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.

14Οἶδα καὶ πέπεισμαι ἐν Κυρίῳ Ἰησοῦ ὅτι οὐδὲν κοινὸν δι’ ἑαυτοῦ εἰ μὴ τῷ λογιζομένῳ τι κοινὸν εἶναι ἐκείνῳ κοινόν

15If your brother is distressed by what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother, for whom Christ died.

15εἰ γὰρ διὰ βρῶμα ὁ ἀδελφός σου λυπεῖται οὐκέτι κατὰ ἀγάπην περιπατεῖς μὴ τῷ βρώματί σου ἐκεῖνον ἀπόλλυε ὑπὲρ οὗ Χριστὸς ἀπέθανεν

16Do not allow what you consider good, then, to be spoken of as evil.

16Μὴ βλασφημείσθω οὖν ὑμῶν τὸ ἀγαθόν

17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

17οὐ γάρ ἐστιν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ βρῶσις καὶ πόσις ἀλλὰ δικαιοσύνη καὶ εἰρήνη καὶ χαρὰ ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ

18For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

18ὁ γὰρ ἐν τούτῳ δουλεύων τῷ Χριστῷ εὐάρεστος τῷ Θεῷ καὶ δόκιμος τοῖς ἀνθρώποις

19So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification.

19Ἄρα οὖν τὰ τῆς εἰρήνης διώκωμεν* καὶ τὰ τῆς οἰκοδομῆς τῆς εἰς ἀλλήλους

20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a stumbling block.

20μὴ ἕνεκεν βρώματος κατάλυε τὸ ἔργον τοῦ Θεοῦ πάντα μὲν καθαρά ἀλλὰ κακὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ διὰ προσκόμματος ἐσθίοντι

21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to stumble.

21καλὸν τὸ μὴ φαγεῖν κρέα μηδὲ πιεῖν οἶνον μηδὲ ἐν ᾧ ὁ ἀδελφός σου προσκόπτει ‹ἢ σκανδαλίζεται ἢ ἀσθενεῖ›

22Keep your belief about such matters between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves.

22Σὺ πίστιν ἣν ἔχεις κατὰ σεαυτὸν ἔχε ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ μακάριος ὁ μὴ κρίνων ἑαυτὸν ἐν ᾧ δοκιμάζει

23But the one who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that is not from faith is sin.

23ὁ δὲ διακρινόμενος ἐὰν φάγῃ κατακέκριται ὅτι οὐκ ἐκ πίστεως πᾶν δὲ ὃ οὐκ ἐκ πίστεως ἁμαρτία ἐστίν
