Jesus Delivered to Pilate
(Matthew 27:1–2)

1And straightway in the morning the high priests with the elders, and the scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin, having held a consultation, binding Jesus, carried Him away, and delivered Him up to Pilate. 2And Pilate asked Him, "Art Then the King of the Jews?" And He, answering, saith to him, "You say it." 3And the high priests accused Him of many things. 4And Pilate again asked Him, saying, "Answerest Thou nothing? Behold how many things they accuse Thee of!" 5But Jesus no longer made any answer; so that Pilate marvelled.

The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
(Matthew 27:15–23; Luke 23:13–25)

6Now at the feast he was wont to release to them one prisoner, whom they asked of him. 7And there was one called Barabbas, bound with the insurgents, who, in the insurrection, had committed murder. 8And, coming up, the multitude began to ask him to do as he was wont to do to them. 9And Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you wish me to release to you the King of the Jews?" 10(For he was coming to understand that because of envy the high priests had delivered Him up). 11But the high priests stirred up the multitude, that he should rather release to them Barabbas.

Pilate Delivers Up Jesus
(Matthew 27:24–26)

12And Pilate, again answering, said to them, "What, then, shall I do to Him Whom ye call the King of the Jews?" 13And they cried out again, "Crucify Him!" 14And Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil did He do?" But they cried out vehemently, "Crucify Him!" 15And Pilate, wishing to satisfy the multitude, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus, after having scourged Him, to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Matthew 27:27–31; Luke 22:63–65; John 19:1–15)

16And the soldiers led Him away within the court, which is the Praetorium; and they call together the whole band. 17And they clothe Him with purple; and, having platted a crown of thorns, they put it on Him. 18And they began to salute Him, "Hail King of the Jews!" 19And they were smiting His head with a reed, and kept spitting on Him; and, bowing their knees, they were worshiping Him! 20And, when they mocked Him, they took from Him the purple, and put on Him His own garments. And they lead Him out to crucify Him.

The Crucifixion
(Matthew 27:32–44; Luke 23:26–43; John 19:16–27)

21And they impress one Simon, a Cyrenian, who was passing by, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear His cross.

22And they bring Him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, "The place of a skull." 23And they were offering Him wine mingled with myrrh: but He did not take it. 24And they crucify Him, and divide His garments, casting lots upon them, what each should take. 25And it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. 26And the inscription of His accusation was written above Him, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."

27And with Him they crucify two robbers; one on His right hand, and one on His left. 28OMITTED TEXT. 29And those passing by railed on Him, wagging their beads, and saying, "Aha! Thou Who destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days! 30save Thyself, coming down from the cross!" 31In like manner the high priests, mocking Him among themselves with the scribes, said, "He saved others; Himself He cannot save! 32Let the Christ, the King of Israel now come down from the cross, that we may see, and believe!" And those who were crucified with Him were reproaching Him.

The Death of Jesus
(Matthew 27:45–56; Luke 23:44–49; John 19:28–30)

33And, the sixth hour having come, there was darkness upon the whole land until the ninth hour. 34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with aloud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI!" which is, being interpreted, "My God! My God! why didst Thou forsake Me!" 35And some of those standing by, hearing it, said, "Behold, He is calling Elijah!" 36And one, running and filling a sponge full of vinegar, putting it on a reed, gave it to Him to drink, saying, "Let alone; let us see whether Elijah is comming to take Him down." 37And Jesus, uttering a loud cry, expired. 38And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom. 39And the centurion, who stood by over against Him, seeing that He so expired, said, "Truly this Man was a Son of God!"

40And there were also women, beholding from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome; 41who, when He was in Galilee, were following Him, and ministering to Him; and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

The Burial of Jesus
(Matthew 27:57–61; Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38–42)

42And, evening having already come, since it was the Preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath, 43there came Joseph of Arimathaea, an honorable councillor; who also himself was looking for the Kingdom of God; and boldly went in to Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 44And Pilate wondered, if He had already died; and, calling to him the centurion, he asked him, whether He were already dead. 45And, having learned it from the centurion, he granted the Corpse to Joseph. 46And he, having brought linen cloth, and having taken Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of a rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47And Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Joses, beheld where He was laid.
