I know that when I come to you
Paul expresses confidence in his future visit to the Roman believers. This assurance reflects his deep desire to fellowship with them, as seen in Romans 1:11-12. Historically, Paul had not yet visited Rome, but he had a strong connection with the church there through mutual acquaintances and his extensive ministry. His certainty is rooted in his apostolic calling and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as seen in Acts 19:21, where he resolved to go to Rome.

I will come in the fullness
The term "fullness" suggests completeness and abundance. Paul anticipates that his visit will be marked by the full measure of spiritual gifts and blessings. This reflects the biblical theme of God's abundant provision, as seen in John 10:10, where Jesus speaks of giving life "more abundantly." The fullness also implies that Paul's ministry will be effective and fruitful, as he brings the gospel message and its transformative power.

of the blessing of Christ
The "blessing of Christ" refers to the spiritual benefits and grace that come through Jesus. This includes salvation, peace, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 1:3, Paul speaks of being blessed with every spiritual blessing in Christ. The blessing is not just material or temporal but encompasses the eternal and spiritual riches found in a relationship with Jesus. This phrase underscores the centrality of Christ in Paul's ministry and the source of all true blessing.

2. Roman Christians

3. Christ

5. The Church

Teaching Points
The Assurance of Spiritual Blessing
Paul’s confidence in bringing the fullness of Christ’s blessing is rooted in his faith and understanding of God’s promises. Believers can have similar assurance in their spiritual endeavors.

The Role of Apostolic Ministry
Paul’s ministry serves as a model for how leaders can bring spiritual blessings to their communities. Church leaders today can learn from Paul’s dedication and purpose.

Unity in Diversity
The Roman church was diverse, yet Paul’s message of blessing was inclusive. This teaches us the importance of unity in the body of Christ despite differences.

The Fullness of Christ’s Blessing
The phrase "fullness of the blessing of Christ" suggests that believers have access to complete spiritual resources in Christ. This encourages us to live fully in the grace and power available to us.

Preparation for Ministry
Paul’s preparation and intention to visit Rome show the importance of planning and readiness in ministry. Believers should prepare themselves spiritually and practically for the work God calls them to.(29) I shall come in the fulness.--I shall bring with me, come furnished with, the fulness of the blessing of Christ. The words "of the gospel" should be omitted. By "the fulness of the blessing of Christ" the Apostle means the full or abundant measure of those spiritual blessings which he, as the Minister and Apostle of Christ, was commissioned to impart to them.
