| 1In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them, | 1In those days the crowd once again became very large, and they had nothing to eat. Jesus called the disciples to Him and said, |

| 13And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side. | 13And He left them, got back into the boat, and crossed to the other side. |

| 17But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened? | 17Aware of their conversation, Jesus asked them, “Why are you debating about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Do you have such hard hearts? |
| 18Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember? | 18‘Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?’ And do you not remember? |
| 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.” | 19When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you collect?” “Twelve,” they answered. |

| 21So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?” | 21Then He asked them, “Do you still not understand?” |
| 22Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him. | 22When they arrived at Bethsaida, some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. |
| 23So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything. | 23So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village. Then He spit on the man’s eyes and placed His hands on him. “Can you see anything?” He asked. |
| 24And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.” | 24The man looked up and said, “I can see the people, but they look like trees walking around.” |
| 25Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly. | 25Once again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and when he opened them his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly. |
| 26Then He sent him away to his house, saying, “Neither go into the town, nor tell anyone in the town.” | 26Jesus sent him home and said, “Do not go back into the village.” |
| 27Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?” | 27Then Jesus and His disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way, He questioned His disciples: “Who do people say I am?” |
| 28So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” | 28They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” |
| 29He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.” | 29“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.” |
| 30Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him. | 30And Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about Him. |

| 34When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. | 34Then Jesus called the crowd to Him along with His disciples, and He told them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me. |
