| 3And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. | 3He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he was not able because of the crowd, since he was a short man. |

| 8And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” | 8But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, I’ll give half of my possessions to the poor, Lord. And if I have extorted anything from anyone, I’ll pay back four times as much.” |
| 9And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. | 9“Today salvation has come to this house,” Jesus told him, “because he too is a son of Abraham. |

| 13Calling ten of his servants, he gave them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Engage in business until I come.’ | 13He called ten of his servants, gave them ten minas, and told them, ‘Engage in business until I come back.’ |
| 14But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’ | 14“But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to rule over us.’ |
| 15When he returned, having received the kingdom, he ordered these servants to whom he had given the money to be called to him, that he might know what they had gained by doing business. | 15“At his return, having received the authority to be king, he summoned those servants he had given the money to, so that he could find out how much they had made in business. |
| 16The first came before him, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made ten minas more.’ | 16The first came forward and said, ‘Master, your mina has earned ten more minas.’ |
| 17And he said to him, ‘Well done, good servant! Because you have been faithful in a very little, you shall have authority over ten cities.’ | 17“ ‘Well done, good servant! ’ he told him. ‘Because you have been faithful in a very small matter, have authority over ten towns.’ |
| 18And the second came, saying, ‘Lord, your mina has made five minas.’ | 18“The second came and said, ‘Master, your mina has made five minas.’ |
| 19And he said to him, ‘And you are to be over five cities.’ | 19“So he said to him, ‘You will be over five towns.’ |
| 20Then another came, saying, ‘Lord, here is your mina, which I kept laid away in a handkerchief; | 20“And another came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina. I have kept it safe in a cloth |
| 21for I was afraid of you, because you are a severe man. You take what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.’ | 21because I was afraid of you since you’re a harsh man: you collect what you didn’t deposit and reap what you didn’t sow.’ |
| 22He said to him, ‘I will condemn you with your own words, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a severe man, taking what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow? | 22“He told him, ‘I will condemn you by what you have said, you evil servant! If you knew I was a harsh man, collecting what I didn’t deposit and reaping what I didn’t sow, |
| 23Why then did you not put my money in the bank, and at my coming I might have collected it with interest?’ | 23why, then, didn’t you put my money in the bank? And when I returned, I would have collected it with interest.’ |
| 24And he said to those who stood by, ‘Take the mina from him, and give it to the one who has the ten minas.’ | 24So he said to those standing there, ‘Take the mina away from him and give it to the one who has ten minas.’ |
| 25And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten minas!’ | 25“But they said to him, ‘Master, he has ten minas.’ |
| 26‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. | 26“ ‘I tell you, that to everyone who has, more will be given; and from the one who does not have, even what he does have will be taken away. |
| 27But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’” | 27But bring here these enemies of mine, who did not want me to rule over them, and slaughter them in my presence.’ ” |
| 28And when he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. | 28When he had said these things, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. |
| 29When he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount that is called Olivet, he sent two of the disciples, | 29As he approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples |
| 30saying, “Go into the village in front of you, where on entering you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever yet sat. | 31If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this: ‘The Lord has need of it.’” | 31If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it? ’ say this: ‘The Lord needs it.’ ” |
| 32So those who were sent went away and found it just as he had told them. | 32So those who were sent left and found it just as he had told them. |
| 33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” | 33As they were untying the young donkey, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the donkey? ” |
| 34And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” | 34“The Lord needs it,” they said. |
| 35And they brought it to Jesus, and throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. | 35Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their clothes on the donkey, they helped Jesus get on it. |
| 36And as he rode along, they spread their cloaks on the road. | 36As he was going along, they were spreading their clothes on the road. |
| 37As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, | 37Now he came near the path down the Mount of Olives, and the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles they had seen: |
| 38saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” | 38Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest heaven! |
| 39And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” | 39Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” |
| 40He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” | 40He answered, “I tell you, if they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out.” |
| 41And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it, | 41As he approached and saw the city, he wept for it, |
| 42saying, “Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. | 42saying, “If you knew this day what would bring peace --but now it is hidden from your eyes. |
| 43For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side | 43For the days will come on you when your enemies will build a barricade around you, surround you, and hem you in on every side. |
| 44and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” | 44They will crush you and your children among you to the ground, and they will not leave one stone on another in your midst, because you did not recognize the time when God visited you.” |
| 45And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, | 45He went into the temple and began to throw out those who were selling, |
| 46saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of robbers.” | 46and he said, “It is written, my house will be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves! ” |
| 47And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, | 47Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to kill him, |
| 48but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words. | 48but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people were captivated by what they heard. |
