I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth. | 1I will sing of the LORD’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness. |
For I will declare, "Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens." | 2Your unfailing love will last forever. Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens. |
The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant: | 3The LORD said, “I have made a covenant with David, my chosen servant. I have sworn this oath to him: |
'I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah | 4‘I will establish your descendants as kings forever; they will sit on your throne from now until eternity.’” Interlude |
LORD, the heavens praise your wonders--your faithfulness also--in the assembly of the holy ones. | 5All heaven will praise your great wonders, LORD; myriads of angels will praise you for your faithfulness. |
For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? | 6For who in all of heaven can compare with the LORD? What mightiest angel is anything like the LORD? |
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him. | 7The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne. |
LORD God of Armies, who is strong like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. | 8O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O LORD? You are entirely faithful. |
You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them. | 9You rule the oceans. You subdue their storm-tossed waves. |
You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm. | 10You crushed the great sea monster. You scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. |
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours. The world and everything in it--you founded them. | 11The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours—you created it all. |
North and south--you created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name. | 12You created north and south. Mount Tabor and Mount Hermon praise your name. |
You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high. | 13Powerful is your arm! Strong is your hand! Your right hand is lifted high in glorious strength. |
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you. | 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne. Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants. |
Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; LORD, they walk in the light from your face. | 15Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD. |
They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness. | 16They rejoice all day long in your wonderful reputation. They exult in your righteousness. |
For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. | 17You are their glorious strength. It pleases you to make us strong. |
Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. | 18Yes, our protection comes from the LORD, and he, the Holy One of Israel, has given us our king. |
You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people. | 19Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said, “I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king. |
I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil. | 20I have found my servant David. I have anointed him with my holy oil. |
My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him. | 21I will steady him with my hand; with my powerful arm I will make him strong. |
The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him. | 22His enemies will not defeat him, nor will the wicked overpower him. |
I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him. | 23I will beat down his adversaries before him and destroy those who hate him. |
My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. | 24My faithfulness and unfailing love will be with him, and by my authority he will grow in power. |
I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers. | 25I will extend his rule over the sea, his dominion over the rivers. |
He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.' | 26And he will call out to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’ |
I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth. | 27I will make him my firstborn son, the mightiest king on earth. |
I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure. | 28I will love him and be kind to him forever; my covenant with him will never end. |
I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts. | 29I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven. |
If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances, | 30But if his descendants forsake my instructions and fail to obey my regulations, |
if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands, | 31if they do not obey my decrees and fail to keep my commands, |
then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows. | 32then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their disobedience with beating. |
But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness. | 33But I will never stop loving him nor fail to keep my promise to him. |
I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said. | 34No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said. |
Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David. | 35I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie: |
His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me, | 36His dynasty will go on forever; his kingdom will endure as the sun. |
like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah | 37It will be as eternal as the moon, my faithful witness in the sky!” Interlude |
But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed. | 38But now you have rejected him and cast him off. You are angry with your anointed king. |
You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown. | 39You have renounced your covenant with him; you have thrown his crown in the dust. |
You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins. | 40You have broken down the walls protecting him and ruined every fort defending him. |
All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. | 41Everyone who comes along has robbed him, and he has become a joke to his neighbors. |
You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. | 42You have strengthened his enemies and made them all rejoice. |
You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle. | 43You have made his sword useless and refused to help him in battle. |
You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne. | 44You have ended his splendor and overturned his throne. |
You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah | 45You have made him old before his time and publicly disgraced him. Interlude |
How long, LORD? Will you hide forever? Will your anger keep burning like fire? | 46O LORD, how long will this go on? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your anger burn like fire? |
Remember how short my life is. Have you created everyone for nothing? | 47Remember how short my life is, how empty and futile this human existence! |
What courageous person can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah | 48No one can live forever; all will die. No one can escape the power of the grave. Interlude |
Lord, where are the former acts of your faithful love that you swore to David in your faithfulness? | 49Lord, where is your unfailing love? You promised it to David with a faithful pledge. |
Remember, Lord, the ridicule against your servants--in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples-- | 50Consider, Lord, how your servants are disgraced! I carry in my heart the insults of so many people. |
how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of your anointed. | 51Your enemies have mocked me, O LORD; they mock your anointed king wherever he goes. |
Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen. | 52Praise the LORD forever! Amen and amen! |
