I will sing about the LORD's faithful love forever; I will proclaim your faithfulness to all generations with my mouth. | 1Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations. |
For I will declare, "Faithful love is built up forever; you establish your faithfulness in the heavens." | 2For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens. |
The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant: | 3I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, |
'I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah | 4Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah. |
LORD, the heavens praise your wonders--your faithfulness also--in the assembly of the holy ones. | 5And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints. |
For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? | 6For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD? |
God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him. | 7God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him. |
LORD God of Armies, who is strong like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. | 8O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee? |
You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them. | 9Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them. |
You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm. | 10Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm. |
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours. The world and everything in it--you founded them. | 11The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them. |
North and south--you created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name. | 12The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name. |
You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high. | 13Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. |
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you. | 14Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face. |
Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; LORD, they walk in the light from your face. | 15Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance. |
They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness. | 16In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted. |
For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. | 17For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted. |
Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. | 18For the LORD is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king. |
You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people. | 19Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people. |
I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil. | 20I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: |
My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him. | 21With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. |
The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him. | 22The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. |
I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him. | 23And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him. |
My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. | 24But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. |
I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers. | 25I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. |
He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.' | 26He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation. |
I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth. | 27Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. |
I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure. | 28My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. |
I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts. | 29His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven. |
If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances, | 30If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; |
if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands, | 31If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; |
then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows. | 32Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. |
But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness. | 33Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. |
I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said. | 34My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. |
Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David. | 35Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. |
His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me, | 36His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. |
like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah | 37It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah. |
But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed. | 38But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed. |
You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown. | 39Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground. |
You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins. | 40Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin. |
All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. | 41All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours. |
You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. | 42Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice. |
You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle. | 43Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle. |
You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne. | 44Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground. |
You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah | 45The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah. |
How long, LORD? Will you hide forever? Will your anger keep burning like fire? | 46How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire? |
Remember how short my life is. Have you created everyone for nothing? | 47Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? |
What courageous person can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah | 48What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah. |
Lord, where are the former acts of your faithful love that you swore to David in your faithfulness? | 49Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth? |
Remember, Lord, the ridicule against your servants--in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples-- | 50Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people; |
how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of your anointed. | 51Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed. |
Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen. | 52Blessed be the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen. |
