Psalm 88
NET Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
NET BibleInternational Standard Version
A song, a psalm written by the Korahites; for the music director; according to the machalath-leannoth style; a well-written song by Heman the Ezrachite. O LORD God who delivers me! By day I cry out and at night I pray before you. 1LORD, God of my salvation, by day and by night I cry out before you.
Listen to my prayer! Pay attention to my cry for help! 2Let my prayer come before you; listen to my cry.
For my life is filled with troubles and I am ready to enter Sheol. 3For my life is filled with troubles as I approach Sheol.
They treat me like those who descend into the grave. I am like a helpless man, 4I am considered as one of those descending into the Pit, like a mighty man without strength,
adrift among the dead, like corpses lying in the grave, whom you remember no more, and who are cut off from your power. 5released to remain with the dead, lying in a grave like a corpse, remembered no longer, and cut off from your power.
You place me in the lowest regions of the pit, in the dark places, in the watery depths. 6You have assigned me to the lowest part of the Pit, to the darkest depths.
Your anger bears down on me, and you overwhelm me with all your waves. (Selah) 7Your anger lies heavily upon me; you pound me with all your waves. Interlude
You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. 8You caused my acquaintances to shun me; you make me extremely abhorrent to them. Restrained, I am unable to go out.
My eyes grow weak because of oppression. I call out to you, O LORD, all day long; I spread out my hands in prayer to you. 9My eyes languish on account of my affliction; all day long I call out to you, LORD, I spread out my hands to you.
Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead? Do the departed spirits rise up and give you thanks? (Selah) 10Can you perform wonders for the dead? Can departed spirits stand up to praise you? Interlude
Is your loyal love proclaimed in the grave, or your faithfulness in the place of the dead? 11Can your gracious love be declared in the grave or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
Are your amazing deeds experienced in the dark region, or your deliverance in the land of oblivion? 12Can your awesome deeds be known in darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion?
As for me, I cry out to you, O LORD; in the morning my prayer confronts you. 13As for me, I cry out to you LORD, and in the morning my prayer greets you.
O LORD, why do you reject me, and pay no attention to me? 14Why, LORD, have you rejected me? Why have you hidden your face from me?
I am oppressed and have been on the verge of death since my youth. I have been subjected to your horrors and am numb with pain. 15Since my youth I have been oppressed and in danger of death. I bear your dread and am overwhelmed.
Your anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me. 16Your burning anger overwhelms me; your terrors destroy me.
They surround me like water all day long; they join forces and encircle me. 17Like waters, they engulf me all day long; they surround me on all sides.
You cause my friends and neighbors to keep their distance; those who know me leave me alone in the darkness. 18You caused my friend and neighbor to shun me; and my acquaintances are confused.
