New American Standard Bible 1995 | New Living Translation |
For the choir director; upon Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning. | 1My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? |
O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest. | 2Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night I lift my voice, but I find no relief. |
Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. | 3Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. |
In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them. | 4Our ancestors trusted in you, and you rescued them. |
To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed. | 5They cried out to you and were saved. They trusted in you and were never disgraced. |
But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. | 6But I am a worm and not a man. I am scorned and despised by all! |
All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, | 7Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, |
"Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him." | 8“Is this the one who relies on the LORD? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!” |
Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother's breasts. | 9Yet you brought me safely from my mother’s womb and led me to trust you at my mother’s breast. |
Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother's womb. | 10I was thrust into your arms at my birth. You have been my God from the moment I was born. |
Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help. | 11Do not stay so far from me, for trouble is near, and no one else can help me. |
Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. | 12My enemies surround me like a herd of bulls; fierce bulls of Bashan have hemmed me in! |
They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring lion. | 13Like lions they open their jaws against me, roaring and tearing into their prey. |
I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. | 14My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me. |
My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death. | 15My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead. |
For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. | 16My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet. |
I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; | 17I can count all my bones. My enemies stare at me and gloat. |
They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. | 18They divide my garments among themselves and throw dice for my clothing. |
But You, O LORD, be not far off; O You my help, hasten to my assistance. | 19O LORD, do not stay far away! You are my strength; come quickly to my aid! |
Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. | 20Save me from the sword; spare my precious life from these dogs. |
Save me from the lion's mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me. | 21Snatch me from the lion’s jaws and from the horns of these wild oxen. |
I will tell of Your name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. | 22I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters. I will praise you among your assembled people. |
You who fear the LORD, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel. | 23Praise the LORD, all you who fear him! Honor him, all you descendants of Jacob! Show him reverence, all you descendants of Israel! |
For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard. | 24For he has not ignored or belittled the suffering of the needy. He has not turned his back on them, but has listened to their cries for help. |
From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. | 25I will praise you in the great assembly. I will fulfill my vows in the presence of those who worship you. |
The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever! | 26The poor will eat and be satisfied. All who seek the LORD will praise him. Their hearts will rejoice with everlasting joy. |
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. | 27The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. All the families of the nations will bow down before him. |
For the kingdom is the LORD'S And He rules over the nations. | 28For royal power belongs to the LORD. He rules all the nations. |
All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive. | 29Let the rich of the earth feast and worship. Bow before him, all who are mortal, all whose lives will end as dust. |
Posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation. | 30Our children will also serve him. Future generations will hear about the wonders of the Lord. |
They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it. | 31His righteous acts will be told to those not yet born. They will hear about everything he has done. |
