For the choir director; upon Aijeleth Hashshahar. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning. | 1To the chief Musician upon Aijeleth Shahar, A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? |
O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest. | 2O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent. |
Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. | 3But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. |
In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them. | 4Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. |
To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed. | 5They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. |
But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. | 6But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people. |
All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, | 7All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, |
"Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him." | 8He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. |
Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother's breasts. | 9But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts. |
Upon You I was cast from birth; You have been my God from my mother's womb. | 10I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly. |
Be not far from me, for trouble is near; For there is none to help. | 11Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. |
Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me. | 12Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. |
They open wide their mouth at me, As a ravening and a roaring lion. | 13They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion. |
I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me. | 14I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels. |
My strength is dried up like a potsherd, And my tongue cleaves to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death. | 15My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death. |
For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet. | 16For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. |
I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; | 17I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. |
They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. | 18They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. |
But You, O LORD, be not far off; O You my help, hasten to my assistance. | 19But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. |
Deliver my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog. | 20Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog. |
Save me from the lion's mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me. | 21Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns. |
I will tell of Your name to my brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You. | 22I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee. |
You who fear the LORD, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel. | 23Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel. |
For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard. | 24For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard. |
From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. | 25My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him. |
The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the LORD. Let your heart live forever! | 26The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever. |
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, And all the families of the nations will worship before You. | 27All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. |
For the kingdom is the LORD'S And He rules over the nations. | 28For the kingdom is the LORD'S: and he is the governor among the nations. |
All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will bow before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive. | 29All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul. |
Posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation. | 30A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. |
They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it. | 31They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this. |
