A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: | 1LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night. |
Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; | 2May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry. |
For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave. | 3For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol. |
I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength: | 4I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength, |
Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand. | 5abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, and who are cut off from your care. |
Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. | 6You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths. |
Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. | 7Your wrath weighs heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. Selah |
Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. | 8You have distanced my friends from me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out. |
Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee. | 9My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you. |
Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah. | 10Do you work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise you? Selah |
Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction? | 11Will your faithful love be declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon? |
Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? | 12Will your wonders be known in the darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion? |
But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. | 13But I call to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets you. |
LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? | 14LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face from me? |
I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted. | 15From my youth, I have been suffering and near death. I suffer your horrors; I am desperate. |
Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off. | 16Your wrath sweeps over me; your terrors destroy me. |
They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. | 17They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side. |
Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness. | 18You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend. |
