Holman Christian Standard BibleNET Bible
Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. 1Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
Who can declare the LORD's mighty acts or proclaim all the praise due Him? 2Who can adequately recount the LORD's mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds?
How happy are those who uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times. 3How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time!
Remember me, LORD, when You show favor to Your people. Come to me with Your salvation 4Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people! Pay attention to me, when you deliver,
so that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your nation, and boast about Your heritage. 5so I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice along with your nation, and boast along with the people who belong to you.
Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have done wrong and have acted wickedly. 6We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong, we have done evil.
Our fathers in Egypt did not grasp the significance of Your wonderful works or remember Your many acts of faithful love; instead, they rebelled by the sea--the Red Sea. 7Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea.
Yet He saved them because of His name, to make His power known. 8Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation, that he might reveal his power.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the depths as through a desert. 9He shouted at the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.
He saved them from the hand of the adversary; He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. 10He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy.
Water covered their foes; not one of them remained. 11The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived.
Then they believed His promises and sang His praise. 12They believed his promises; they sang praises to him.
They soon forgot His works and would not wait for His counsel. 13They quickly forgot what he had done; they did not wait for his instructions.
They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert. 14In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert.
He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them. 15He granted their request, then struck them with a disease.
In the camp they were envious of Moses and of Aaron, the LORD's holy one. 16In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the LORD's holy priest.
The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram. 17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it engulfed the group led by Abiram.
Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked. 18Fire burned their group; the flames scorched the wicked.
At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image. 19They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol.
They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox. 20They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, 21They rejected the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt,
wonderful works in the land of Ham, awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea. 22amazing feats in the land of Ham, mighty acts by the Red Sea.
So He said He would have destroyed them-- if Moses His chosen one had not stood before Him in the breach to turn His wrath away from destroying them. 23He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger.
They despised the pleasant land and did not believe His promise. 24They rejected the fruitful land; they did not believe his promise.
They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the LORD's voice. 25They grumbled in their tents; they did not obey the LORD.
So He raised His hand against them with an oath that He would make them fall in the desert 26So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert,
and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them throughout the lands. 27make their descendants die among the nations, and scatter them among foreign lands.
They aligned themselves with Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. 28They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They provoked the LORD with their deeds, and a plague broke out against them. 29They made the LORD angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped. 30Phinehas took a stand and intervened, and the plague subsided.
It was credited to him as righteousness throughout all generations to come. 31This brought him a reward, an eternal gift.
They angered the LORD at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them; 32They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them,
for they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips. 33for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly.
They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them 34They did not destroy the nations, as the LORD had commanded them to do.
but mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. 35They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways.
They served their idols, which became a snare to them. 36They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. 37They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood-- the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; so the land became polluted with blood. 38They shed innocent blood--the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed.
They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds. 39They were defiled by their deeds, and unfaithful in their actions.
Therefore the LORD's anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance. 40So the LORD was angry with his people and despised the people who belong to him.
He handed them over to the nations; those who hated them ruled them. 41He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their power. 42Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority.
He rescued them many times, but they continued to rebel deliberately and were beaten down by their sin. 43Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude, and degraded themselves by their sin.
When He heard their cry, He took note of their distress, 44Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help.
remembered His covenant with them, and relented according to the riches of His faithful love. 45He remembered his covenant with them, and relented because of his great loyal love.
He caused them to be pitied before all their captors. 46He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them.
Save us, Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and rejoice in Your praise. 47Deliver us, O LORD, our God! Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.
May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah! 48The LORD God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Let all the people say, "We agree! Praise the LORD!"
