Holman Christian Standard BibleNew American Standard Bible 1995
Hallelujah! Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever. 1Praise the LORD! Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Who can declare the LORD's mighty acts or proclaim all the praise due Him? 2Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the LORD, Or can show forth all His praise?
How happy are those who uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times. 3How blessed are those who keep justice, Who practice righteousness at all times!
Remember me, LORD, when You show favor to Your people. Come to me with Your salvation 4Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor toward Your people; Visit me with Your salvation,
so that I may enjoy the prosperity of Your chosen ones, rejoice in the joy of Your nation, and boast about Your heritage. 5That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, That I may glory with Your inheritance.
Both we and our fathers have sinned; we have done wrong and have acted wickedly. 6We have sinned like our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have behaved wickedly.
Our fathers in Egypt did not grasp the significance of Your wonderful works or remember Your many acts of faithful love; instead, they rebelled by the sea--the Red Sea. 7Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders; They did not remember Your abundant kindnesses, But rebelled by the sea, at the Red Sea.
Yet He saved them because of His name, to make His power known. 8Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name, That He might make His power known.
He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the depths as through a desert. 9Thus He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up, And He led them through the deeps, as through the wilderness.
He saved them from the hand of the adversary; He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. 10So He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
Water covered their foes; not one of them remained. 11The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.
Then they believed His promises and sang His praise. 12Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.
They soon forgot His works and would not wait for His counsel. 13They quickly forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel,
They were seized with craving in the wilderness and tested God in the desert. 14But craved intensely in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert.
He gave them what they asked for, but sent a wasting disease among them. 15So He gave them their request, But sent a wasting disease among them.
In the camp they were envious of Moses and of Aaron, the LORD's holy one. 16When they became envious of Moses in the camp, And of Aaron, the holy one of the LORD,
The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram. 17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And engulfed the company of Abiram.
Fire blazed throughout their assembly; flames consumed the wicked. 18And a fire blazed up in their company; The flame consumed the wicked.
At Horeb they made a calf and worshiped the cast metal image. 19They made a calf in Horeb And worshiped a molten image.
They exchanged their glory for the image of a grass-eating ox. 20Thus they exchanged their glory For the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, 21They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt,
wonderful works in the land of Ham, awe-inspiring acts at the Red Sea. 22Wonders in the land of Ham And awesome things by the Red Sea.
So He said He would have destroyed them-- if Moses His chosen one had not stood before Him in the breach to turn His wrath away from destroying them. 23Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood in the breach before Him, To turn away His wrath from destroying them.
They despised the pleasant land and did not believe His promise. 24Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word,
They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the LORD's voice. 25But grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
So He raised His hand against them with an oath that He would make them fall in the desert 26Therefore He swore to them That He would cast them down in the wilderness,
and would disperse their descendants among the nations, scattering them throughout the lands. 27And that He would cast their seed among the nations And scatter them in the lands.
They aligned themselves with Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. 28They joined themselves also to Baal-peor, And ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They provoked the LORD with their deeds, and a plague broke out against them. 29Thus they provoked Him to anger with their deeds, And the plague broke out among them.
But Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped. 30Then Phinehas stood up and interposed, And so the plague was stayed.
It was credited to him as righteousness throughout all generations to come. 31And it was reckoned to him for righteousness, To all generations forever.
They angered the LORD at the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them; 32They also provoked Him to wrath at the waters of Meribah, So that it went hard with Moses on their account;
for they embittered his spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips. 33Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.
They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them 34They did not destroy the peoples, As the LORD commanded them,
but mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. 35But they mingled with the nations And learned their practices,
They served their idols, which became a snare to them. 36And served their idols, Which became a snare to them.
They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons. 37They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons,
They shed innocent blood-- the blood of their sons and daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; so the land became polluted with blood. 38And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and their daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with the blood.
They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds. 39Thus they became unclean in their practices, And played the harlot in their deeds.
Therefore the LORD's anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance. 40Therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against His people And He abhorred His inheritance.
He handed them over to the nations; those who hated them ruled them. 41Then He gave them into the hand of the nations, And those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their power. 42Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were subdued under their power.
He rescued them many times, but they continued to rebel deliberately and were beaten down by their sin. 43Many times He would deliver them; They, however, were rebellious in their counsel, And so sank down in their iniquity.
When He heard their cry, He took note of their distress, 44Nevertheless He looked upon their distress When He heard their cry;
remembered His covenant with them, and relented according to the riches of His faithful love. 45And He remembered His covenant for their sake, And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
He caused them to be pitied before all their captors. 46He also made them objects of compassion In the presence of all their captors.
Save us, Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and rejoice in Your praise. 47Save us, O LORD our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks to Your holy name And glory in Your praise.
May Yahweh, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, "Amen!" Hallelujah! 48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD!
