You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: | 3The LORD said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn an oath to David my servant: |
‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Selah | 4'I will establish your offspring forever and build up your throne for all generations.'" Selah |

For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD, | 6For who in the skies can compare with the LORD? Who among the heavenly beings is like the LORD? |
a God greatly to be feared in the council of the holy ones, and awesome above all who are around him? | 7God is greatly feared in the council of the holy ones, more awe-inspiring than all who surround him. |
O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty as you are, O LORD, with your faithfulness all around you? | 8LORD God of Armies, who is strong like you, LORD? Your faithfulness surrounds you. |
You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, you still them. | 9You rule the raging sea; when its waves surge, you still them. |
You crushed Rahab like a carcass; you scattered your enemies with your mighty arm. | 10You crushed Rahab like one who is slain; you scattered your enemies with your powerful arm. |
The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours; the world and all that is in it, you have founded them. | 11The heavens are yours; the earth also is yours. The world and everything in it--you founded them. |
The north and the south, you have created them; Tabor and Hermon joyously praise your name. | 12North and south--you created them. Tabor and Hermon shout for joy at your name. |
You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. | 13You have a mighty arm; your hand is powerful; your right hand is lifted high. |
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. | 14Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; faithful love and truth go before you. |
Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, | 15Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; LORD, they walk in the light from your face. |
who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. | 16They rejoice in your name all day long, and they are exalted by your righteousness. |
For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. | 17For you are their magnificent strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. |
For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. | 18Surely our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. |
Of old you spoke in a vision to your godly one, and said: “I have granted help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. | 19You once spoke in a vision to your faithful ones and said: "I have granted help to a warrior; I have exalted one chosen from the people. |
I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him, | 20I have found David my servant; I have anointed him with my sacred oil. |
so that my hand shall be established with him; my arm also shall strengthen him. | 21My hand will always be with him, and my arm will strengthen him. |
The enemy shall not outwit him; the wicked shall not humble him. | 22The enemy will not oppress him; the wicked will not afflict him. |
I will crush his foes before him and strike down those who hate him. | 23I will crush his foes before him and strike those who hate him. |
My faithfulness and my steadfast love shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. | 24My faithfulness and love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted. |
I will set his hand on the sea and his right hand on the rivers. | 25I will extend his power to the sea and his right hand to the rivers. |
He shall cry to me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation.’ | 26He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, the rock of my salvation.' |
And I will make him the firstborn, the highest of the kings of the earth. | 27I will also make him my firstborn, greatest of the kings of the earth. |
My steadfast love I will keep for him forever, and my covenant will stand firm for him. | 28I will always preserve my faithful love for him, and my covenant with him will endure. |
I will establish his offspring forever and his throne as the days of the heavens. | 29I will establish his line forever, his throne as long as heaven lasts. |
If his children forsake my law and do not walk according to my rules, | 30If his sons abandon my instruction and do not live by my ordinances, |
if they violate my statutes and do not keep my commandments, | 31if they dishonor my statutes and do not keep my commands, |
then I will punish their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes, | 32then I will call their rebellion to account with the rod, their iniquity with blows. |
but I will not remove from him my steadfast love or be false to my faithfulness. | 33But I will not withdraw my faithful love from him or betray my faithfulness. |
I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips. | 34I will not violate my covenant or change what my lips have said. |
Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David. | 35Once and for all I have sworn an oath by my holiness; I will not lie to David. |
His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me. | 36His offspring will continue forever, his throne like the sun before me, |
Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.” Selah | 37like the moon, established forever, a faithful witness in the sky." Selah |
But now you have cast off and rejected; you are full of wrath against your anointed. | 38But you have spurned and rejected him; you have become enraged with your anointed. |
You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust. | 39You have repudiated the covenant with your servant; you have completely dishonored his crown. |
You have breached all his walls; you have laid his strongholds in ruins. | 40You have broken down all his walls; you have reduced his fortified cities to ruins. |
All who pass by plunder him; he has become the scorn of his neighbors. | 41All who pass by plunder him; he has become an object of ridicule to his neighbors. |
You have exalted the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. | 42You have lifted high the right hand of his foes; you have made all his enemies rejoice. |
You have also turned back the edge of his sword, and you have not made him stand in battle. | 43You have also turned back his sharp sword and have not let him stand in battle. |
You have made his splendor to cease and cast his throne to the ground. | 44You have made his splendor cease and have overturned his throne. |
You have cut short the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah | 45You have shortened the days of his youth; you have covered him with shame. Selah |
How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? | 46How long, LORD? Will you hide forever? Will your anger keep burning like fire? |
Remember how short my time is! For what vanity you have created all the children of man! | 47Remember how short my life is. Have you created everyone for nothing? |
What man can live and never see death? Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah | 48What courageous person can live and never see death? Who can save himself from the power of Sheol? Selah |
Lord, where is your steadfast love of old, which by your faithfulness you swore to David? | 49Lord, where are the former acts of your faithful love that you swore to David in your faithfulness? |
Remember, O Lord, how your servants are mocked, and how I bear in my heart the insults of all the many nations, | 50Remember, Lord, the ridicule against your servants--in my heart I carry abuse from all the peoples-- |
with which your enemies mock, O LORD, with which they mock the footsteps of your anointed. | 51how your enemies have ridiculed, LORD, how they have ridiculed every step of your anointed. |
Blessed be the LORD forever! Amen and Amen. | 52Blessed be the LORD forever. Amen and amen. |
