LORD, God of my salvation, I cry out before you day and night. | 1A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. For the director of music. According to mahalath leannoth. A maskil of Heman the Ezrahite. LORD, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you. |
May my prayer reach your presence; listen to my cry. | 2May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. |
For I have had enough troubles, and my life is near Sheol. | 3I am overwhelmed with troubles and my life draws near to death. |
I am counted among those going down to the Pit. I am like a man without strength, | 4I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength. |
abandoned among the dead. I am like the slain lying in the grave, whom you no longer remember, and who are cut off from your care. | 5I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. |
You have put me in the lowest part of the Pit, in the darkest places, in the depths. | 6You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. |
Your wrath weighs heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. Selah | 7Your wrath lies heavily on me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. |
You have distanced my friends from me; you have made me repulsive to them. I am shut in and cannot go out. | 8You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; |
My eyes are worn out from crying. LORD, I cry out to you all day long; I spread out my hands to you. | 9my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. |
Do you work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise you? Selah | 10Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you? |
Will your faithful love be declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Abaddon? | 11Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction? |
Will your wonders be known in the darkness or your righteousness in the land of oblivion? | 12Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? |
But I call to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer meets you. | 13But I cry to you for help, LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. |
LORD, why do you reject me? Why do you hide your face from me? | 14Why, LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? |
From my youth, I have been suffering and near death. I suffer your horrors; I am desperate. | 15From my youth I have suffered and been close to death; I have borne your terrors and am in despair. |
Your wrath sweeps over me; your terrors destroy me. | 16Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. |
They surround me like water all day long; they close in on me from every side. | 17All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. |
You have distanced loved one and neighbor from me; darkness is my only friend. | 18You have taken from me friend and neighbor-- darkness is my closest friend. |
