1I made the first account (word) concerning all the things, O Theophilus, which Jesus began to do and to teach, 2Until the day He was taken up, after having given instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen. 3To whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering with many indisputable proofs, being seen by them for forty days and speaking the things concerning the kingdom of God:

4And being assembled together, He instructed them not to depart from Jerusalem, but rather to await the promise of the Father, which [said he] you heard of me. 5For John indeed baptized with water; however you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit, after not many days.

6For those then having come together, asked Him, saying, Lord, are you restoring the kingdom of Israel at (in) this time? 7And He said to them, It is not yours to know times (times in sequence/ duration) or seasons (opportune times, fitting season, time as opportunity), which the Father set in His own authority. 8But rather you will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come (overtake, come upon) upon you and you will be My witnesses, in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and Samaria, and unto the end of the earth.

9And having said these things, they beholding, He was lifted up (lift/raise upon) and a cloud received (took, bore) Him from (away from) their eyes. 10And as they were looking fixated into the heaven, as He was going, behold, two men stood by then in white apparel, 11Who said, Men, Galileans, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus having been taken up from you into heaven, will thus come in like manner as you beheld Him going into heaven.

12Then they returned unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, having a Sabbath day’s journey. 13And when they had entered, they went up into the upper room where Peter and John, and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James were staying. 14All these were steadfastly continuing with the same passion in prayer with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and with His brothers.

15And in these days, Peter stood up in the midst of the brothers and said -- the crowd of names at (upon) the same [place] was about a hundred twenty (120)--, 16Men, brothers, it was necessary for the Scripture to have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand through the mouth of David, concerning Judas, the one having become a guide to those having arrested Jesus; 17Because he was numbered with (in) us and was allotted a share (lot, assigned portion) of this ministry (diakonias). 18This man then acquired a field from out of the reward of unrighteousness, and having fallen headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his visceral organs (internal parts) gushed out. 19And it became known to all those residing in Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their own language (Aramaic), Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.

20For it has been written in the book of Psalms, Let his residence (estate, habitation, homestead) become desolate and let there not be one person residing in it; and let another take his overseership (episkopen).

21It is necessary therefore that men having accompanied us in all the time that the Lord Jesus came in and went out among (upon) us, 22Having begun from the baptism of John until the day in which He was taken up away from us, a witness of His resurrection with us, to become one of these. 23And they put forward (made to stand) two, Joseph called Barsabbas, who was called by the additional name Justus, and Matthias. 24And having prayed, they said, You Lord, Heart-Knower of all, show us the one which You have chosen (elected) from out of these two, 25To take the place of this ministry (diakonias) and apostleship away from which Judas turned aside to go unto his own place. 26And they gave lots for them and the lot fell upon Matthias and he was classed (numbered, reckoned with, counted with, latin-adnumeratus) with the eleven apostles.
