Psalm 106

New Living TranslationNET Bible
Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.1Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, and his loyal love endures!
Who can list the glorious miracles of the LORD? Who can ever praise him enough?2Who can adequately recount the LORD's mighty acts, or relate all his praiseworthy deeds?
There is joy for those who deal justly with others and always do what is right.3How blessed are those who promote justice, and do what is right all the time!
Remember me, LORD, when you show favor to your people; come near and rescue me.4Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people! Pay attention to me, when you deliver,
Let me share in the prosperity of your chosen ones. Let me rejoice in the joy of your people; let me praise you with those who are your heritage.5so I may see the prosperity of your chosen ones, rejoice along with your nation, and boast along with the people who belong to you.
Like our ancestors, we have sinned. We have done wrong! We have acted wickedly!6We have sinned like our ancestors; we have done wrong, we have done evil.
Our ancestors in Egypt were not impressed by the LORD’s miraculous deeds. They soon forgot his many acts of kindness to them. Instead, they rebelled against him at the Red Sea.7Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds, they failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, and they rebelled at the sea, by the Red Sea.
Even so, he saved them— to defend the honor of his name and to demonstrate his mighty power.8Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation, that he might reveal his power.
He commanded the Red Sea to dry up. He led Israel across the sea as if it were a desert.9He shouted at the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.
So he rescued them from their enemies and redeemed them from their foes.10He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them, and rescued them from the power of the enemy.
Then the water returned and covered their enemies; not one of them survived.11The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived.
Then his people believed his promises. Then they sang his praise.12They believed his promises; they sang praises to him.
Yet how quickly they forgot what he had done! They wouldn’t wait for his counsel!13They quickly forgot what he had done; they did not wait for his instructions.
In the wilderness their desires ran wild, testing God’s patience in that dry wasteland.14In the wilderness they had an insatiable craving for meat; they challenged God in the desert.
So he gave them what they asked for, but he sent a plague along with it.15He granted their request, then struck them with a disease.
The people in the camp were jealous of Moses and envious of Aaron, the LORD’s holy priest.16In the camp they resented Moses, and Aaron, the LORD's holy priest.
Because of this, the earth opened up; it swallowed Dathan and buried Abiram and the other rebels.17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it engulfed the group led by Abiram.
Fire fell upon their followers; a flame consumed the wicked.18Fire burned their group; the flames scorched the wicked.
The people made a calf at Mount Sinai ; they bowed before an image made of gold.19They made an image of a calf at Horeb, and worshiped a metal idol.
They traded their glorious God for a statue of a grass-eating bull.20They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass.
They forgot God, their savior, who had done such great things in Egypt—21They rejected the God who delivered them, the one who performed great deeds in Egypt,
such wonderful things in the land of Ham, such awesome deeds at the Red Sea.22amazing feats in the land of Ham, mighty acts by the Red Sea.
So he declared he would destroy them. But Moses, his chosen one, stepped between the LORD and the people. He begged him to turn from his anger and not destroy them.23He threatened to destroy them, but Moses, his chosen one, interceded with him and turned back his destructive anger.
The people refused to enter the pleasant land, for they wouldn’t believe his promise to care for them.24They rejected the fruitful land; they did not believe his promise.
Instead, they grumbled in their tents and refused to obey the LORD.25They grumbled in their tents; they did not obey the LORD.
Therefore, he solemnly swore that he would kill them in the wilderness,26So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert,
that he would scatter their descendants among the nations, exiling them to distant lands.27make their descendants die among the nations, and scatter them among foreign lands.
Then our ancestors joined in the worship of Baal at Peor; they even ate sacrifices offered to the dead!28They worshiped Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead.
They angered the LORD with all these things, so a plague broke out among them.29They made the LORD angry by their actions, and a plague broke out among them.
But Phinehas had the courage to intervene, and the plague was stopped.30Phinehas took a stand and intervened, and the plague subsided.
So he has been regarded as a righteous man ever since that time.31This brought him a reward, an eternal gift.
At Meribah, too, they angered the LORD, causing Moses serious trouble.32They made him angry by the waters of Meribah, and Moses suffered because of them,
They made Moses angry, and he spoke foolishly.33for they aroused his temper, and he spoke rashly.
Israel failed to destroy the nations in the land, as the LORD had commanded them.34They did not destroy the nations, as the LORD had commanded them to do.
Instead, they mingled among the pagans and adopted their evil customs.35They mixed in with the nations and learned their ways.
They worshiped their idols, which led to their downfall.36They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
They even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.37They sacrificed their sons and daughters to demons.
They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters. By sacrificing them to the idols of Canaan, they polluted the land with murder.38They shed innocent blood--the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed.
They defiled themselves by their evil deeds, and their love of idols was adultery in the LORD’s sight.39They were defiled by their deeds, and unfaithful in their actions.
That is why the LORD’s anger burned against his people, and he abhorred his own special possession.40So the LORD was angry with his people and despised the people who belong to him.
He handed them over to pagan nations, and they were ruled by those who hated them.41He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
Their enemies crushed them and brought them under their cruel power.42Their enemies oppressed them; they were subject to their authority.
Again and again he rescued them, but they chose to rebel against him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin.43Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude, and degraded themselves by their sin.
Even so, he pitied them in their distress and listened to their cries.44Yet he took notice of their distress, when he heard their cry for help.
He remembered his covenant with them and relented because of his unfailing love.45He remembered his covenant with them, and relented because of his great loyal love.
He even caused their captors to treat them with kindness.46He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them.
Save us, O LORD our God! Gather us back from among the nations, so we can thank your holy name and rejoice and praise you.47Deliver us, O LORD, our God! Gather us from among the nations! Then we will give thanks to your holy name, and boast about your praiseworthy deeds.
Praise the LORD, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting! Let all the people say, “Amen!” Praise the LORD!48The LORD God of Israel deserves praise, in the future and forevermore. Let all the people say, "We agree! Praise the LORD!"
