| 1Later, Jesus appeared again to the disciples beside the Sea of Galilee. This is how it happened. | 1After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself. |
| 2Several of the disciples were there—Simon Peter, Thomas (nicknamed the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples. | 2There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. |
| 3Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “We’ll come, too,” they all said. So they went out in the boat, but they caught nothing all night. | 3Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing. |
| 4At dawn Jesus was standing on the beach, but the disciples couldn’t see who he was. | 4But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus. |
| 5He called out, “Fellows, have you caught any fish?” “No,” they replied. | 5Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. |
| 6Then he said, “Throw out your net on the right-hand side of the boat, and you’ll get some!” So they did, and they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it. | 6And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes. |
| 7Then the disciple Jesus loved said to Peter, “It’s the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his tunic (for he had stripped for work), jumped into the water, and headed to shore. | 7Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. |
| 8The others stayed with the boat and pulled the loaded net to the shore, for they were only about a hundred yards from shore. | 8And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes. |
| 9When they got there, they found breakfast waiting for them—fish cooking over a charcoal fire, and some bread. | 9As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. |
| 10 “Bring some of the fish you’ve just caught,” Jesus said. | 10Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. |
| 11So Simon Peter went aboard and dragged the net to the shore. There were 153 large fish, and yet the net hadn’t torn. | 11Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken. |
| 12 “Now come and have some breakfast!” Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. | 12Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. |
| 13Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish. | 13Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. |
| 14This was the third time Jesus had appeared to his disciples since he had been raised from the dead. | 14This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead. |
| 15After breakfast Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these? ” “Yes, Lord,” Peter replied, “you know I love you.” “Then feed my lambs,” Jesus told him. | 15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. |
| 16Jesus repeated the question: “Simon son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” Peter said, “you know I love you.” “Then take care of my sheep,” Jesus said. | 16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. |
| 17A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep. | 17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep. |
| 18 “I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don’t want to go.” | 18Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. |
| 19Jesus said this to let him know by what kind of death he would glorify God. Then Jesus told him, “Follow me.” | 19This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me. |
| 20Peter turned around and saw behind them the disciple Jesus loved—the one who had leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, “Lord, who will betray you?” | 20Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee? |
| 21Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?” | 21Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? |
| 22Jesus replied, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow me.” | 22Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me. |
| 23So the rumor spread among the community of believers that this disciple wouldn’t die. But that isn’t what Jesus said at all. He only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?” | 23Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? |
| 24This disciple is the one who testifies to these events and has recorded them here. And we know that his account of these things is accurate. | 24This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. |
| 25Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written. | 25And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. |
