1Therefore you are inexcusable, O man, whoever you are who judge, for in whatever you judge another you condemn yourself; for you who judge practice the same things.1Therefore, you have no excuse—every one of you who judges. For when you pass judgment on another person, you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, practice the very same things.
2But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things.2Now we know that God's judgment against those who act like this is based on truth.
3And do you think this, O man, you who judge those practicing such things, and doing the same, that you will escape the judgment of God?3So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on those who practice these things and then do them yourself, do you think you will escape God's judgment?
4Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?4Or are you unaware of his rich kindness, forbearance, and patience, that it is God's kindness that is leading you to repent?
5But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,5But because of your stubborn and unrepentant heart you are reserving wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
6who “will render to each one according to his deeds”:6For he will repay everyone according to what that person has done:
7eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality;7eternal life to those who strive for glory, honor, and immortality by patiently doing good;
8but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,8but wrath and fury for those who in their selfish pride refuse to believe the truth and practice wickedness instead.
9tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;9There will be suffering and anguish for every human being who practices doing evil, for Jews first and for Greeks as well.
10but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.10But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who practices doing good, initially for Jews but also for Greeks as well,
11For there is no partiality with God.11because God does not show partiality.
12For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law12For all who have sinned apart from the Law will also perish apart from the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law.
13(for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;13For it is not merely those who hear the Law who are righteous in God's sight. No, it is those who follow the Law, who will be justified.
14for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves,14For whenever gentiles, who do not possess the Law, do instinctively what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the Law.
15who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them)15They show that what the Law requires is written in their hearts, a fact to which their own consciences testify, and their thoughts will either accuse or excuse them
16in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.16on that day when God, through Jesus the Messiah, will judge people's secrets according to my gospel.
17Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God,17Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the Law, and boast about God,
18and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,18and know his will, and approve of what is best because you have been instructed in the Law;
19and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,19and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness,
20an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.20an instructor of ignorant people, and a teacher of infants because you have the full content of knowledge and truth in the Law—
21You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal?21as you teach others, do you fail to teach yourself? As you preach against stealing, do you steal?
22You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?22As you forbid adultery, do you commit adultery? As you abhor idols, do you rob temples?
23You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law?23As you boast about the Law, do you dishonor God by breaking the Law?
24For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.24As it is written, "God's name is being blasphemed among the gentiles because of you."
25For circumcision is indeed profitable if you keep the law; but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.25For circumcision is valuable if you observe the Law, but if you break the Law, your having been circumcised has no more value than if you were uncircumcised.
26Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteous requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision?26So if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the requirements of the Law, his uncircumcision will be regarded as circumcision, won't it?
27And will not the physically uncircumcised, if he fulfills the law, judge you who, even with your written code and circumcision, are a transgressor of the law?27The man who is uncircumcised physically but who keeps the Law will condemn you who break the Law, even though you have the written Law and circumcision.
28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh;28For a person is not a Jew because of his appearance, nor is circumcision something just external and physical.
29but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God.29No, a person is a Jew inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, brought about by the Spirit, not by a written law. That person's praise will come from God, not from people.
