| 1For the music director; according to the tune "Morning Doe;" a psalm of David. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? I groan in prayer, but help seems far away. | 1My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far from my deliverance and from my words of groaning? |
| 2My God, I cry out during the day, but you do not answer, and during the night my prayers do not let up. | 2My God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, by night, yet I have no rest. |
| 3You are holy; you sit as king receiving the praises of Israel. | 3But you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. |
| 4In you our ancestors trusted; they trusted in you and you rescued them. | 4Our fathers trusted in you; they trusted, and you rescued them. |

| 30A whole generation will serve him; they will tell the next generation about the sovereign Lord. | 30Their descendants will serve him; the next generation will be told about the Lord. |
