International Standard VersionKing James Bible
"Do you know when the mountain goat gives birth? Do you watch the doe as it calves its young?1Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
Can you count the months of their gestation? Do you know the time when they give birth,2Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
when they crouch down to give birth to their offspring, and let go of their birth pangs?3They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
Their young are strong; they grow up in the open field; then they go off and don't return to them."4Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
"Who sets the wild donkey free? Who loosens the bonds of the wild donkey5Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
to whom I've given the Arabah for a home; the salt plain for his dwelling place?6Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
He despises city noises; he ignores the shouts of the driver.7He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.
He ranges the mountains that are his pasture to search for anything green.8The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
Is the wild ox willing to serve you? Will he sleep at night near your feeding trough?9Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
Can you bind the ox to plow a furrow with a rope? Will he harrow after you in the valley?10Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Will you trust him because of his great strength and entrust your labor to him?11Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Will you trust him that he'll bring in your grain, and gather it to your threshing floor?"12Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
"The wings of the ostrich flap joyously, but aren't its pinions and feathers like the stork?13Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
She abandons her eggs on the ground and lets them be warmed in the sand,14Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
but she forgets that a foot might crush them or any wild animal might trample them.15And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
She mistreats her young as though they're not hers, and she has no fear that her labor may be in vain,16She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
because God didn't grant her wisdom and never gave her understanding.17Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
And yet when she gets ready to run, she laughs at the horse and its rider."18What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
Do you instill the horse with strength? Do you clothe its neck with a mane?19Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
Can you make him leap like the locust, and make the splendor of his snorting terrifying?20Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.
He paws the ground in the valley and rejoices in his strength; he goes out to face weapons.21He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.
He scoffs at fear and is never scared; he never retreats from a sword.22He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
A quiver of arrows rattles against his side, along with a flashing spear and a lance.23The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
Leaping in his excitement, he takes in the ground; he cannot stand still when the trumpets sound!24He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
When the trumpet blasts he'll neigh, 'Aha! Aha!' From a distance he can sense war, the war cry of generals, and their shouting."25He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
"Is it by your understanding that the hawk flies, spreading its wings toward the south?26Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
Does the eagle soar high at your command and build its nest on the highest crags?27Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?
He dwells on the crags where he makes his home, there on the rocky crag is his stronghold.28She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
From there he searches for prey, and his eyes recognize it from a distance.29From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
His young ones feast on blood; he'll be found wherever there's a carcass." 30Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
