By faith he sees his defense, and the destruction of his enemies Let the assembled peoples The phrase "assembled peoples" refers to a gathering of nations or groups, indicating a collective unity before God. In Hebrew, the word for "peoples" is "עַמִּים" (amim), which often denotes not just the Israelites but all nations. This suggests a universal call to worship and recognize God's sovereignty. Historically, this reflects the vision of God's ultimate authority over all humanity, a theme prevalent throughout the Psalms. The assembly of peoples can be seen as a foreshadowing of the eschatological gathering where all nations will acknowledge God. gather around You take Your seat over them on high For their sakes.--Rather, over or above it, as in LXX. The poet has a vision of judgment. Jehovah summons the nations, arranges them at His tribunal, and then returns to His high throne to preside. This explanation is more consonant with the context (see next verse) than to suppose the judgment to have taken place between the two causes of the verse, and the departure of God into the height "as a victor after battle" (Delitzsch), or "in proof of His supremacy as judge" (Ewald). This picture of arraigned nations is certainly in favour of the view which makes the psalm the expression of the feelings of the community rather than of an individual.
