Job's Honor Turned into Contempt

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
1"But now they mock me, men younger than I, whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs.1“But now they laugh at me, men who are younger than I, whose fathers I would have disdained to set with the dogs of my flock.1"But now those younger than I mock me, Whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock.1But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.1But now they mock me, men younger than I am, whose fathers I would have refused to put with my sheep dogs.
2Of what use was the strength of their hands to me, since their vigor had gone from them?2What could I gain from the strength of their hands, men whose vigor is gone?2"Indeed, what good was the strength of their hands to me? Vigor had perished from them.2Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?2What use to me was the strength of their hands? Their vigor had left them.
3Haggard from want and hunger, they roamed the parched land in desolate wastelands at night.3Through want and hard hunger they gnaw the dry ground by night in waste and desolation;3"From want and famine they are gaunt Who gnaw the dry ground by night in waste and desolation,3For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.3Emaciated from poverty and hunger, they gnawed the dry land, the desolate wasteland by night.
4In the brush they gathered salt herbs, and their food was the root of the broom bush.4they pick saltwort and the leaves of bushes, and the roots of the broom tree for their food.4Who pluck mallow by the bushes, And whose food is the root of the broom shrub.4Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.4They plucked mallow among the shrubs, and the roots of the broom tree were their food.

5They were banished from human society, shouted at as if they were thieves.5They are driven out from human company; they shout after them as after a thief.5"They are driven from the community; They shout against them as against a thief,5They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)5They were expelled from human society; people shouted at them as if they were thieves.
6They were forced to live in the dry stream beds, among the rocks and in holes in the ground.6In the gullies of the torrents they must dwell, in holes of the earth and of the rocks.6So that they dwell in dreadful valleys, In holes of the earth and of the rocks.6To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.6They are living on the slopes of the wadis, among the rocks and in holes in the ground.
7They brayed among the bushes and huddled in the undergrowth.7Among the bushes they bray; under the nettles they huddle together.7"Among the bushes they cry out; Under the nettles they are gathered together.7Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.7They bray among the shrubs; they huddle beneath the thistles.
8A base and nameless brood, they were driven out of the land.8A senseless, a nameless brood, they have been whipped out of the land.8"Fools, even those without a name, They were scourged from the land.8They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.8Foolish men, without even a name. They were forced to leave the land.
9"And now those young men mock me in song; I have become a byword among them.9“And now I have become their song; I am a byword to them.9"And now I have become their taunt, I have even become a byword to them.9And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.9Now I am mocked by their songs; I have become an object of scorn to them.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10They detest me and keep their distance; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.10They abhor me; they keep aloof from me; they do not hesitate to spit at the sight of me.10"They abhor me and stand aloof from me, And they do not refrain from spitting at my face.10They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.10They despise me and keep their distance from me; they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
11Now that God has unstrung my bow and afflicted me, they throw off restraint in my presence.11Because God has loosed my cord and humbled me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.11"Because He has loosed His bowstring and afflicted me, They have cast off the bridle before me.11Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.11Because God has loosened my bowstring and oppressed me, they have cast off restraint in my presence.
12On my right the tribe attacks; they lay snares for my feet, they build their siege ramps against me.12On my right hand the rabble rise; they push away my feet; they cast up against me their ways of destruction.12"On the right hand their brood arises; They thrust aside my feet and build up against me their ways of destruction.12Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.12The rabble rise up at my right; they trap my feet and construct their siege ramp against me.
13They break up my road; they succeed in destroying me. 'No one can help him,' they say.13They break up my path; they promote my calamity; they need no one to help them.13"They break up my path, They profit from my destruction; No one restrains them.13They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.13They tear up my path; they contribute to my destruction, without anyone to help them.
14They advance as through a gaping breach; amid the ruins they come rolling in.14As through a wide breach they come; amid the crash they roll on.14"As through a wide breach they come, Amid the tempest they roll on.14They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.14They advance as through a gaping breach; they keep rolling in through the ruins.

Job's Prosperity Becomes Calamity

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
15Terrors overwhelm me; my dignity is driven away as by the wind, my safety vanishes like a cloud.15Terrors are turned upon me; my honor is pursued as by the wind, and my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.15"Terrors are turned against me; They pursue my honor as the wind, And my prosperity has passed away like a cloud.15Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.15Terrors are turned loose against me; they chase my dignity away like the wind, and my prosperity has passed by like a cloud.
16"And now my life ebbs away; days of suffering grip me.16“And now my soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have taken hold of me.16"And now my soul is poured out within me; Days of affliction have seized me.16And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.16Now my life is poured out before my eyes, and days of suffering have seized me.
17Night pierces my bones; my gnawing pains never rest.17The night racks my bones, and the pain that gnaws me takes no rest.17"At night it pierces my bones within me, And my gnawing pains take no rest.17My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.17Night pierces my bones, but my gnawing pains never rest.
18In his great power God becomes like clothing to me; he binds me like the neck of my garment.18With great force my garment is disfigured; it binds me about like the collar of my tunic.18"By a great force my garment is distorted; It binds me about as the collar of my coat.18By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.18My clothing is distorted with great force; He chokes me by the neck of my garment.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
19He throws me into the mud, and I am reduced to dust and ashes.19God has cast me into the mire, and I have become like dust and ashes.19"He has cast me into the mire, And I have become like dust and ashes.19He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.19He throws me into the mud, and I have become like dust and ashes.
20"I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer; I stand up, but you merely look at me.20I cry to you for help and you do not answer me; I stand, and you only look at me.20"I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me; I stand up, and You turn Your attention against me.20I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not.20I cry out to You for help, but You do not answer me; when I stand up, You merely look at me.
21You turn on me ruthlessly; with the might of your hand you attack me.21You have turned cruel to me; with the might of your hand you persecute me.21"You have become cruel to me; With the might of Your hand You persecute me.21Thou art become cruel to me: with thy strong hand thou opposest thyself against me.21You have turned against me with cruelty; You harass me with Your strong hand.
22You snatch me up and drive me before the wind; you toss me about in the storm.22You lift me up on the wind; you make me ride on it, and you toss me about in the roar of the storm.22"You lift me up to the wind and cause me to ride; And You dissolve me in a storm.22Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.22You lift me up on the wind and make me ride it; You scatter me in the storm.
23I know you will bring me down to death, to the place appointed for all the living.23For I know that you will bring me to death and to the house appointed for all living.23"For I know that You will bring me to death And to the house of meeting for all living.23For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.23Yes, I know that You will lead me to death-- the place appointed for all who live.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
24"Surely no one lays a hand on a broken man when he cries for help in his distress.24“Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand, and in his disaster cry for help?24"Yet does not one in a heap of ruins stretch out his hand, Or in his disaster therefore cry out for help?24Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.24Yet no one would stretch out his hand against a ruined man when he cries out to him for help because of his distress.
25Have I not wept for those in trouble? Has not my soul grieved for the poor?25Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?25"Have I not wept for the one whose life is hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy?25Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?25Have I not wept for those who have fallen on hard times? Has my soul not grieved for the needy?
26Yet when I hoped for good, evil came; when I looked for light, then came darkness.26But when I hoped for good, evil came, and when I waited for light, darkness came.26"When I expected good, then evil came; When I waited for light, then darkness came.26When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.26But when I hoped for good, evil came; when I looked for light, darkness came.
27The churning inside me never stops; days of suffering confront me.27My inward parts are in turmoil and never still; days of affliction come to meet me.27"I am seething within and cannot relax; Days of affliction confront me.27My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.27I am churning within and cannot rest; days of suffering confront me.
28I go about blackened, but not by the sun; I stand up in the assembly and cry for help.28I go about darkened, but not by the sun; I stand up in the assembly and cry for help.28"I go about mourning without comfort; I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help.28I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.28I walk about blackened, but not by the sun. I stood in the assembly and cried out for help.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
29I have become a brother of jackals, a companion of owls.29I am a brother of jackals and a companion of ostriches.29"I have become a brother to jackals And a companion of ostriches.29I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.29I have become a brother to jackals and a companion of ostriches.
30My skin grows black and peels; my body burns with fever.30My skin turns black and falls from me, and my bones burn with heat.30"My skin turns black on me, And my bones burn with fever.30My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.30My skin blackens and flakes off, and my bones burn with fever.
31My lyre is tuned to mourning, and my pipe to the sound of wailing.31My lyre is turned to mourning, and my pipe to the voice of those who weep.31"Therefore my harp is turned to mourning, And my flute to the sound of those who weep.31My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.31My lyre is used for mourning and my flute for the sound of weeping.
