| 1And the LORD said to Moses, | 1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, |
| 2“The following instructions are for those seeking ceremonial purification from a skin disease. Those who have been healed must be brought to the priest, | 2This shall be the law of the leper in the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought unto the priest: |
| 3who will examine them at a place outside the camp. If the priest finds that someone has been healed of a serious skin disease, | 3And the priest shall go forth out of the camp; and the priest shall look, and, behold, if the plague of leprosy be healed in the leper; |
| 4he will perform a purification ceremony, using two live birds that are ceremonially clean, a stick of cedar, some scarlet yarn, and a hyssop branch. | 4Then shall the priest command to take for him that is to be cleansed two birds alive and clean, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: |
| 5The priest will order that one bird be slaughtered over a clay pot filled with fresh water. | 5And the priest shall command that one of the birds be killed in an earthen vessel over running water: |
| 6He will take the live bird, the cedar stick, the scarlet yarn, and the hyssop branch, and dip them into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. | 6As for the living bird, he shall take it, and the cedar wood, and the scarlet, and the hyssop, and shall dip them and the living bird in the blood of the bird that was killed over the running water: |
| 7The priest will then sprinkle the blood of the dead bird seven times on the person being purified of the skin disease. When the priest has purified the person, he will release the live bird in the open field to fly away. | 7And he shall sprinkle upon him that is to be cleansed from the leprosy seven times, and shall pronounce him clean, and shall let the living bird loose into the open field. |
| 8“The persons being purified must then wash their clothes, shave off all their hair, and bathe themselves in water. Then they will be ceremonially clean and may return to the camp. However, they must remain outside their tents for seven days. | 8And he that is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, and shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean: and after that he shall come into the camp, and shall tarry abroad out of his tent seven days. |
| 9On the seventh day they must again shave all the hair from their heads, including the hair of the beard and eyebrows. They must also wash their clothes and bathe themselves in water. Then they will be ceremonially clean. | 9But it shall be on the seventh day, that he shall shave all his hair off his head and his beard and his eyebrows, even all his hair he shall shave off: and he shall wash his clothes, also he shall wash his flesh in water, and he shall be clean. |
| 10“On the eighth day each person being purified must bring two male lambs and a one-year-old female lamb, all with no defects, along with a grain offering of six quarts of choice flour moistened with olive oil, and a cup of olive oil. | 10And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish, and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and one log of oil. |
| 11Then the officiating priest will present that person for purification, along with the offerings, before the LORD at the entrance of the Tabernacle. | 11And the priest that maketh him clean shall present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: |
| 12The priest will take one of the male lambs and the olive oil and present them as a guilt offering, lifting them up as a special offering before the LORD. | 12And the priest shall take one he lamb, and offer him for a trespass offering, and the log of oil, and wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: |
| 13He will then slaughter the male lamb in the sacred area where sin offerings and burnt offerings are slaughtered. As with the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest. It is a most holy offering. | 13And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy: |
| 14The priest will then take some of the blood of the guilt offering and apply it to the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 14And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: |
| 15“Then the priest will pour some of the olive oil into the palm of his own left hand. | 15And the priest shall take some of the log of oil, and pour it into the palm of his own left hand: |
| 16He will dip his right finger into the oil in his palm and sprinkle some of it with his finger seven times before the LORD. | 16And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left hand, and shall sprinkle of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD: |
| 17The priest will then apply some of the oil in his palm over the blood from the guilt offering that is on the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 17And of the rest of the oil that is in his hand shall the priest put upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the blood of the trespass offering: |
| 18The priest will apply the oil remaining in his hand to the head of the person being purified. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 18And the remnant of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall pour upon the head of him that is to be cleansed: and the priest shall make an atonement for him before the LORD. |
| 19“Then the priest must present the sin offering to purify the person who was cured of the skin disease. After that, the priest will slaughter the burnt offering | 19And the priest shall offer the sin offering, and make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed from his uncleanness; and afterward he shall kill the burnt offering: |
| 20and offer it on the altar along with the grain offering. Through this process, the priest will purify the person who was healed, and the person will be ceremonially clean. | 20And the priest shall offer the burnt offering and the meat offering upon the altar: and the priest shall make an atonement for him, and he shall be clean. |
| 21“But anyone who is too poor and cannot afford these offerings may bring one male lamb for a guilt offering, to be lifted up as a special offering for purification. The person must also bring two quarts of choice flour moistened with olive oil for the grain offering and a cup of olive oil. | 21And if he be poor, and cannot get so much; then he shall take one lamb for a trespass offering to be waved, to make an atonement for him, and one tenth deal of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering, and a log of oil; |
| 22The offering must also include two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever the person can afford. One of the pair must be used for the sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. | 22And two turtledoves, or two young pigeons, such as he is able to get; and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering. |
| 23On the eighth day of the purification ceremony, the person being purified must bring the offerings to the priest in the LORD’s presence at the entrance of the Tabernacle. | 23And he shall bring them on the eighth day for his cleansing unto the priest, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, before the LORD. |
| 24The priest will take the lamb for the guilt offering, along with the olive oil, and lift them up as a special offering to the LORD. | 24And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD: |
| 25Then the priest will slaughter the lamb for the guilt offering. He will take some of its blood and apply it to the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 25And he shall kill the lamb of the trespass offering, and the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot: |
| 26“The priest will also pour some of the olive oil into the palm of his own left hand. | 26And the priest shall pour of the oil into the palm of his own left hand: |
| 27He will dip his right finger into the oil in his palm and sprinkle some of it seven times before the LORD. | 27And the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left hand seven times before the LORD: |
| 28The priest will then apply some of the oil in his palm over the blood from the guilt offering that is on the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 28And the priest shall put of the oil that is in his hand upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot, upon the place of the blood of the trespass offering: |
| 29The priest will apply the oil remaining in his hand to the head of the person being purified. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 29And the rest of the oil that is in the priest's hand he shall put upon the head of him that is to be cleansed, to make an atonement for him before the LORD. |
| 30“Then the priest will offer the two turtledoves or the two young pigeons, whichever the person can afford. | 30And he shall offer the one of the turtledoves, or of the young pigeons, such as he can get; |
| 31One of them is for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, to be presented along with the grain offering. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 31Even such as he is able to get, the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, with the meat offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for him that is to be cleansed before the LORD. |
| 32These are the instructions for purification for those who have recovered from a serious skin disease but who cannot afford to bring the offerings normally required for the ceremony of purification.” Treatment of Contaminated Houses | 32This is the law of him in whom is the plague of leprosy, whose hand is not able to get that which pertaineth to his cleansing. |
| 33Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, | 33And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, |
| 34“When you arrive in Canaan, the land I am giving you as your own possession, I may contaminate some of the houses in your land with mildew. | 34When ye be come into the land of Canaan, which I give to you for a possession, and I put the plague of leprosy in a house of the land of your possession; |
| 35The owner of such a house must then go to the priest and say, ‘It appears that my house has some kind of mildew.’ | 35And he that owneth the house shall come and tell the priest, saying, It seemeth to me there is as it were a plague in the house: |
| 36Before the priest goes in to inspect the house, he must have the house emptied so nothing inside will be pronounced ceremonially unclean. | 36Then the priest shall command that they empty the house, before the priest go into it to see the plague, that all that is in the house be not made unclean: and afterward the priest shall go in to see the house: |
| 37Then the priest will go in and examine the mildew on the walls. If he finds greenish or reddish streaks and the contamination appears to go deeper than the wall’s surface, | 37And he shall look on the plague, and, behold, if the plague be in the walls of the house with hollow strakes, greenish or reddish, which in sight are lower than the wall; |
| 38the priest will step outside the door and put the house in quarantine for seven days. | 38Then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days: |
| 39On the seventh day the priest must return for another inspection. If he finds that the mildew on the walls of the house has spread, | 39And the priest shall come again the seventh day, and shall look: and, behold, if the plague be spread in the walls of the house; |
| 40the priest must order that the stones from those areas be removed. The contaminated material will then be taken outside the town to an area designated as ceremonially unclean. | 40Then the priest shall command that they take away the stones in which the plague is, and they shall cast them into an unclean place without the city: |
| 41Next the inside walls of the entire house must be scraped thoroughly and the scrapings dumped in the unclean place outside the town. | 41And he shall cause the house to be scraped within round about, and they shall pour out the dust that they scrape off without the city into an unclean place: |
| 42Other stones will be brought in to replace the ones that were removed, and the walls will be replastered. | 42And they shall take other stones, and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other morter, and shall plaister the house. |
| 43“But if the mildew reappears after all the stones have been replaced and the house has been scraped and replastered, | 43And if the plague come again, and break out in the house, after that he hath taken away the stones, and after he hath scraped the house, and after it is plaistered; |
| 44the priest must return and inspect the house again. If he finds that the mildew has spread, the walls are clearly contaminated with a serious mildew, and the house is defiled. | 44Then the priest shall come and look, and, behold, if the plague be spread in the house, it is a fretting leprosy in the house: it is unclean. |
| 45It must be torn down, and all its stones, timbers, and plaster must be carried out of town to the place designated as ceremonially unclean. | 45And he shall break down the house, the stones of it, and the timber thereof, and all the morter of the house; and he shall carry them forth out of the city into an unclean place. |
| 46Those who enter the house during the period of quarantine will be ceremonially unclean until evening, | 46Moreover he that goeth into the house all the while that it is shut up shall be unclean until the even. |
| 47and all who sleep or eat in the house must wash their clothing. | 47And he that lieth in the house shall wash his clothes; and he that eateth in the house shall wash his clothes. |
| 48“But if the priest returns for his inspection and finds that the mildew has not reappeared in the house after the fresh plastering, he will pronounce it clean because the mildew is clearly gone. | 48And if the priest shall come in, and look upon it, and, behold, the plague hath not spread in the house, after the house was plaistered: then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, because the plague is healed. |
| 49To purify the house the priest must take two birds, a stick of cedar, some scarlet yarn, and a hyssop branch. | 49And he shall take to cleanse the house two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet, and hyssop: |
| 50He will slaughter one of the birds over a clay pot filled with fresh water. | 50And he shall kill the one of the birds in an earthen vessel over running water: |
| 51He will take the cedar stick, the hyssop branch, the scarlet yarn, and the live bird, and dip them into the blood of the slaughtered bird and into the fresh water. Then he will sprinkle the house seven times. | 51And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird, and in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times: |
| 52When the priest has purified the house in exactly this way, | 52And he shall cleanse the house with the blood of the bird, and with the running water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet: |
| 53he will release the live bird in the open fields outside the town. Through this process, the priest will purify the house, and it will be ceremonially clean. | 53But he shall let go the living bird out of the city into the open fields, and make an atonement for the house: and it shall be clean. |
| 54“These are the instructions for dealing with serious skin diseases, including scabby sores; | 54This is the law for all manner of plague of leprosy, and scall, |
| 55and mildew, whether on clothing or in a house; | 55And for the leprosy of a garment, and of a house, |
| 56and a swelling on the skin, a rash, or discolored skin. | 56And for a rising, and for a scab, and for a bright spot: |
| 57This procedure will determine whether a person or object is ceremonially clean or unclean. “These are the instructions regarding skin diseases and mildew.” | 57To teach when it is unclean, and when it is clean: this is the law of leprosy. |
