| 2“The following instructions are for those seeking ceremonial purification from a skin disease. Those who have been healed must be brought to the priest, | 2“This is the law for the one afflicted with a skin disease on the day of his cleansing, when he is brought to the priest. |
| 3who will examine them at a place outside the camp. If the priest finds that someone has been healed of a serious skin disease, | 3The priest is to go outside the camp to examine him, and if the skin disease of the afflicted person has healed, |
| 4he will perform a purification ceremony, using two live birds that are ceremonially clean, a stick of cedar, some scarlet yarn, and a hyssop branch. | 4the priest shall order that two live clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop be brought for the one to be cleansed. |
| 5The priest will order that one bird be slaughtered over a clay pot filled with fresh water. | 5Then the priest shall command that one of the birds be slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot. |
| 6He will take the live bird, the cedar stick, the scarlet yarn, and the hyssop branch, and dip them into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. | 6And he is to take the live bird together with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. |
| 7The priest will then sprinkle the blood of the dead bird seven times on the person being purified of the skin disease. When the priest has purified the person, he will release the live bird in the open field to fly away. | 7Seven times he shall sprinkle the one to be cleansed of the skin disease. Then he shall pronounce him clean and release the live bird into the open field. |
| 8“The persons being purified must then wash their clothes, shave off all their hair, and bathe themselves in water. Then they will be ceremonially clean and may return to the camp. However, they must remain outside their tents for seven days. | 8The one being cleansed must wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and bathe with water; then he will be ceremonially clean. Afterward, he may enter the camp, but he must remain outside his tent for seven days. |
| 9On the seventh day they must again shave all the hair from their heads, including the hair of the beard and eyebrows. They must also wash their clothes and bathe themselves in water. Then they will be ceremonially clean. | 9On the seventh day he must shave off all his hair—his head, his beard, his eyebrows, and the rest of his hair. He must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water, and he will be clean. |
| 10“On the eighth day each person being purified must bring two male lambs and a one-year-old female lamb, all with no defects, along with a grain offering of six quarts of choice flour moistened with olive oil, and a cup of olive oil. | 10On the eighth day he is to bring two unblemished male lambs, an unblemished ewe lamb a year old, a grain offering of three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with olive oil, and one log of olive oil. |
| 11Then the officiating priest will present that person for purification, along with the offerings, before the LORD at the entrance of the Tabernacle. | 11The priest who performs the cleansing shall present the one to be cleansed, together with these offerings, before the LORD at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. |
| 12The priest will take one of the male lambs and the olive oil and present them as a guilt offering, lifting them up as a special offering before the LORD. | 12Then the priest is to take one of the male lambs and present it as a guilt offering, along with the log of olive oil; and he must wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. |
| 13He will then slaughter the male lamb in the sacred area where sin offerings and burnt offerings are slaughtered. As with the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest. It is a most holy offering. | 13Then he is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy. |
| 14The priest will then take some of the blood of the guilt offering and apply it to the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 14The priest is to take some of the blood from the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. |
| 15“Then the priest will pour some of the olive oil into the palm of his own left hand. | 15Then the priest shall take some of the log of olive oil, pour it into his left palm, |
| 16He will dip his right finger into the oil in his palm and sprinkle some of it with his finger seven times before the LORD. | 16dip his right forefinger into the oil in his left palm, and sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD. |
| 17The priest will then apply some of the oil in his palm over the blood from the guilt offering that is on the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 17And the priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his palm on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot, on top of the blood of the guilt offering. |
| 18The priest will apply the oil remaining in his hand to the head of the person being purified. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 18The rest of the oil in his palm, the priest is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. |
| 19“Then the priest must present the sin offering to purify the person who was cured of the skin disease. After that, the priest will slaughter the burnt offering | 19Then the priest is to sacrifice the sin offering and make atonement for the one to be cleansed from his uncleanness. After that, the priest shall slaughter the burnt offering |
| 20and offer it on the altar along with the grain offering. Through this process, the priest will purify the person who was healed, and the person will be ceremonially clean. | 20and offer it on the altar, with the grain offering, to make atonement for him, and he will be clean. |
| 21“But anyone who is too poor and cannot afford these offerings may bring one male lamb for a guilt offering, to be lifted up as a special offering for purification. The person must also bring two quarts of choice flour moistened with olive oil for the grain offering and a cup of olive oil. | 21If, however, the person is poor and cannot afford these offerings, he is to take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for him, along with a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of olive oil, |
| 22The offering must also include two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever the person can afford. One of the pair must be used for the sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. | 22and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever he can afford, one to be a sin offering and the other a burnt offering. |
| 23On the eighth day of the purification ceremony, the person being purified must bring the offerings to the priest in the LORD’s presence at the entrance of the Tabernacle. | 23On the eighth day he is to bring them for his cleansing to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting before the LORD. |
| 24The priest will take the lamb for the guilt offering, along with the olive oil, and lift them up as a special offering to the LORD. | 24The priest shall take the lamb for the guilt offering, along with the log of olive oil, and wave them as a wave offering before the LORD. |
| 25Then the priest will slaughter the lamb for the guilt offering. He will take some of its blood and apply it to the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 25And after he slaughters the lamb for the guilt offering, the priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. |

| 27He will dip his right finger into the oil in his palm and sprinkle some of it seven times before the LORD. | 27and sprinkle with his right forefinger some of the oil in his left palm seven times before the LORD. |
| 28The priest will then apply some of the oil in his palm over the blood from the guilt offering that is on the lobe of the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the big toe of the right foot of the person being purified. | 28The priest shall also put some of the oil in his palm on the right earlobe of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot—on the same places as the blood of the guilt offering. |
| 29The priest will apply the oil remaining in his hand to the head of the person being purified. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 29The rest of the oil in his palm, the priest is to put on the head of the one to be cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD. |
| 30“Then the priest will offer the two turtledoves or the two young pigeons, whichever the person can afford. | 30Then he must sacrifice the turtledoves or young pigeons, whichever he can afford, |
| 31One of them is for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering, to be presented along with the grain offering. Through this process, the priest will purify the person before the LORD. | 31one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. In this way the priest will make atonement before the LORD for the one to be cleansed. |
| 32These are the instructions for purification for those who have recovered from a serious skin disease but who cannot afford to bring the offerings normally required for the ceremony of purification.” Treatment of Contaminated Houses | 32This is the law for someone who has a skin disease and cannot afford the cost of his cleansing.” |
| 33Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, | 33Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, |
| 34“When you arrive in Canaan, the land I am giving you as your own possession, I may contaminate some of the houses in your land with mildew. | 34“When you enter the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your possession, and I put a contamination of mildew into a house in that land, |
| 35The owner of such a house must then go to the priest and say, ‘It appears that my house has some kind of mildew.’ | 35the owner of the house shall come and tell the priest, ‘Something like mildew has appeared in my house.’ |
| 36Before the priest goes in to inspect the house, he must have the house emptied so nothing inside will be pronounced ceremonially unclean. | 36The priest must order that the house be cleared before he enters it to examine the mildew, so that nothing in the house will become unclean. After this, the priest shall go in to inspect the house. |
| 37Then the priest will go in and examine the mildew on the walls. If he finds greenish or reddish streaks and the contamination appears to go deeper than the wall’s surface, | 37He is to examine the house, and if the mildew on the walls consists of green or red depressions that appear to be beneath the surface of the wall, |
| 38the priest will step outside the door and put the house in quarantine for seven days. | 38the priest shall go outside the doorway of the house and close it up for seven days. |
| 39On the seventh day the priest must return for another inspection. If he finds that the mildew on the walls of the house has spread, | 39On the seventh day the priest is to return and inspect the house. If the mildew has spread on the walls, |
| 40the priest must order that the stones from those areas be removed. The contaminated material will then be taken outside the town to an area designated as ceremonially unclean. | 40he must order that the contaminated stones be pulled out and thrown into an unclean place outside the city. |
| 41Next the inside walls of the entire house must be scraped thoroughly and the scrapings dumped in the unclean place outside the town. | 41And he shall have the inside of the house scraped completely and the plaster that is scraped off dumped into an unclean place outside the city. |
| 42Other stones will be brought in to replace the ones that were removed, and the walls will be replastered. | 42So different stones must be obtained to replace the contaminated ones, as well as additional mortar to replaster the house. |
| 43“But if the mildew reappears after all the stones have been replaced and the house has been scraped and replastered, | 43If the mildew reappears in the house after the stones have been torn out and the house has been scraped and replastered, |
| 44the priest must return and inspect the house again. If he finds that the mildew has spread, the walls are clearly contaminated with a serious mildew, and the house is defiled. | 44the priest must come and inspect it. If the mildew has spread in the house, it is a destructive mildew; the house is unclean. |
| 45It must be torn down, and all its stones, timbers, and plaster must be carried out of town to the place designated as ceremonially unclean. | 45It must be torn down with its stones, its timbers, and all its plaster, and taken outside the city to an unclean place. |
| 46Those who enter the house during the period of quarantine will be ceremonially unclean until evening, | 46Anyone who enters the house during any of the days that it is closed up will be unclean until evening. |
| 47and all who sleep or eat in the house must wash their clothing. | 47And anyone who sleeps in the house or eats in it must wash his clothes. |
| 48“But if the priest returns for his inspection and finds that the mildew has not reappeared in the house after the fresh plastering, he will pronounce it clean because the mildew is clearly gone. | 48If, however, the priest comes and inspects it, and the mildew has not spread after the house has been replastered, he shall pronounce the house clean, because the mildew is gone. |
| 49To purify the house the priest must take two birds, a stick of cedar, some scarlet yarn, and a hyssop branch. | 49He is to take two birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop to purify the house; |
| 50He will slaughter one of the birds over a clay pot filled with fresh water. | 50and he shall slaughter one of the birds over fresh water in a clay pot. |
| 51He will take the cedar stick, the hyssop branch, the scarlet yarn, and the live bird, and dip them into the blood of the slaughtered bird and into the fresh water. Then he will sprinkle the house seven times. | 51Then he shall take the cedar wood, the hyssop, the scarlet yarn, and the live bird, dip them in the blood of the slaughtered bird and the fresh water, and sprinkle the house seven times. |
| 52When the priest has purified the house in exactly this way, | 52And he shall cleanse the house with the bird’s blood, the fresh water, the live bird, the cedar wood, the hyssop, and the scarlet yarn. |
| 53he will release the live bird in the open fields outside the town. Through this process, the priest will purify the house, and it will be ceremonially clean. | 53Finally, he is to release the live bird into the open fields outside the city. In this way he will make atonement for the house, and it will be clean. |
| 54“These are the instructions for dealing with serious skin diseases, including scabby sores; | 54This is the law for any infectious skin disease, for a scaly outbreak, |
| 55and mildew, whether on clothing or in a house; | 55for mildew in clothing or in a house, |
| 56and a swelling on the skin, a rash, or discolored skin. | 56and for a swelling, rash, or spot, |
| 57This procedure will determine whether a person or object is ceremonially clean or unclean. “These are the instructions regarding skin diseases and mildew.” | 57to determine when something is clean or unclean. This is the law regarding skin diseases and mildew.” |
