New King James Version | New International Version |
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. | 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, |
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. | 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. |
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, | 3For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, |
that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. | 4in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. |
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. | 5Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. |
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. | 6The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. |
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. | 7The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. |
So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. | 8Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. |
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. | 9You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. |
And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. | 10But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. |
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. | 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. |
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. | 12Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation--but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. |
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. | 13For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live. |
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. | 14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. |
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” | 15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." |
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, | 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. |
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. | 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. |
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. | 18I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. |
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. | 19For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. |
For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; | 20For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope |
because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. | 21that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. |
For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. | 22We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. |
Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. | 23Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. |
For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? | 24For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? |
But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. | 25But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. |
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. |
Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. | 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance with the will of God. |
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. | 28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. |
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. | 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. |
Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. | 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. |
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? | 31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? |
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? | 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all--how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? |
Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. | 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. |
Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. | 34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died--more than that, who was raised to life--is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. |
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? | 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? |
As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” | 36As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." |
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. | 37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. |
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, | 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, |
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. | 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. |
