What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?1What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase?
Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?2Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?3Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.4Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life.
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,5For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will certainly also be united in the likeness of his resurrection.
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.6We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
For he who has died has been freed from sin.7(For someone who has died has been freed from sin.)
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,8Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.9We know that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die again; death no longer has mastery over him.
For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.10For the death he died, he died to sin once for all, but the life he lives, he lives to God.
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.11So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.12Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires,
And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.13and do not present your members to sin as instruments to be used for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instruments to be used for righteousness.
For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.14For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Absolutely not!
Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?16Do you not know that if you present yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or obedience resulting in righteousness?
But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.17But thanks be to God that though you were slaves to sin, you obeyed from the heart that pattern of teaching you were entrusted to,
And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.18and having been freed from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.
I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.19(I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.) For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.
For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.20For when you were slaves of sin, you were free with regard to righteousness.
What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.21So what benefit did you then reap from those things that you are now ashamed of? For the end of those things is death.
But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.22But now, freed from sin and enslaved to God, you have your benefit leading to sanctification, and the end is eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.23For the payoff of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
