New King James Version | NET Bible |
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. | 1For the music director; a psalm of David. How blessed is the one who treats the poor properly! When trouble comes, the LORD delivers him. |
The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, And he will be blessed on the earth; You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies. | 2May the LORD protect him and save his life! May he be blessed in the land! Do not turn him over to his enemies! |
The LORD will strengthen him on his bed of illness; You will sustain him on his sickbed. | 3The LORD supports him on his sickbed; you completely heal him from his illness. |
I said, “LORD, be merciful to me; Heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.” | 4As for me, I said: "O LORD, have mercy on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you! |
My enemies speak evil of me: “When will he die, and his name perish?” | 5My enemies ask this cruel question about me, 'When will he finally die and be forgotten?' |
And if he comes to see me, he speaks lies; His heart gathers iniquity to itself; When he goes out, he tells it. | 6When someone comes to visit, he pretends to be friendly; he thinks of ways to defame me, and when he leaves he slanders me. |
All who hate me whisper together against me; Against me they devise my hurt. | 7All who hate me whisper insults about me to one another; they plan ways to harm me. |
“An evil disease,” they say, “clings to him. And now that he lies down, he will rise up no more.” | 8They say, 'An awful disease overwhelms him, and now that he is bed-ridden he will never recover.' |
Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me. | 9Even my close friend whom I trusted, he who shared meals with me, has turned against me. |
But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up, That I may repay them. | 10As for you, O LORD, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!" |
By this I know that You are well pleased with me, Because my enemy does not triumph over me. | 11By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. |
As for me, You uphold me in my integrity, And set me before Your face forever. | 12As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence. |
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen. | 13The LORD God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore! We agree! We agree! |
